Really what I want to come up with are some ideas for where to go with a Scorpion centric list.

...based on your personal preferences.

Scorpions are my favorite models in the game.

Sidenote: Anyone know of a cool Karandras conversion?

I am looking to make my own.

The Twilight Zone

With 20 scorpions, I would go with 2 units of ten with an exarch. Each exarch needs a claw and monster hunter.

The rest is really up to you. If your going mech, use the scorpions to infiltrate a serpent and get them to a forward location. On foot, just infiltrate/outflank them.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Use storm guardians, scorpians for more melee, and everything else needs to be for anti-elite/anti-tank.

You can make the most of your guys using some of the eldar buffing powers, increasing armor saves and what not.

I would suggest no vehicles, if possible. Stuff like support weapon batteries, wraith guard and lords, fire dragons and all the other eldar goodness will reinforce the power of the army theme and list.

I would advise against storm guardians in general, they just never seem as good as normal guardians. Swapping 1 strength 4 AP 5 rending shot for an extra strength 3 AP - hit just doesn't seem right to me. The only added extra is the meltas/flamers, but in my eyes storm guardians simple don't work to well. On Making your own Karandras the best and simplest place to start is with a SS exarch with claw, jazz him up a bit and go from there.

Troops should be either objective grabbing bikes in reserve, or rangers, or both. Vehicles should be either war walkers or fire prisms/night spinners. I HQ's should be Karandras for fluff, and either a spiritseer for RoB buffs, Farseer gunning for Fortune, or an Avatar for awesomeness. Maybe consider DE allies? You know you have ALWAYS wanted to put Karandras and Drazhar in the same unit, fluff be damned!

I would do 2 HQs 1 being a spirit seer for one squad to use conceal (cant infiltrate) and one with khandras up the table. This gives you 2 squads of 11 guys all with stealth and shrouded and move through cover. The enemy would have truble without ignore cover to shift them.

I was just going to make an extra exarch into khandras with a flashier paint job and maybe a custom bit or greenstuff on his helmet.

My gods. I think the building would explode from either the sheer awesomeness of this or the utter revulsion.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I've ran a Scorpion list to some effect, something like:

Karandras

10 Scorpions with Claw Exarch (Crushing blow, Monster hunter)

2x10 Guardians with BLs in standard Serpents

1x10 Guardians with BL for backfield scoring

2x CTM Nightspinners

Might have missed something but thats the gist of it...

The Scorps infiltrate with Karandras, Turn 1 the Spinners and Serpents turboboost it downfield to cover the Scorps, the Spinners using the CTM to fire their Torrent Mode and neutralize some threat. The end result is T2 the majority of the army is in nice and close for Bladestorming and Scorpion Claw rampages.

Alternatively you could have a nice big blob of Guardians with a Warlock and Spiritseer, led by Karandras, then 2 units of Scorps with Exarchs to infiltrate. Perhaps not massively effective but brutal in close.. oh go with Guardian Defenders though, its just not worth trading the s4 rending catapult shot for a s3 ap- melee hit.

Good luck anyway, Scorpions are indeed awesome!

If you want to use 20 scorpions aggressively as your core I'd recommend blocks of jetbikes as your troops, large squads of 9 with 3 Cannons and a warlock to flavour. This way between infiltrate and the jetbikes natural speed you can very easily apply large amounts of force to a small area of their line.

The Scorpions themselves are pretty slow so they will dictate where your hammer falls, making the rest of the army either able to rapidly move there or reach out and touch there lets you focus all your strength in one place.

I found scorpions just didn't do enough for me in game so I'm tempted to use the Iyanden 'dex next time I run them - just to stick a couple of spiritseers in each squad...that should help them stand up in a fight

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

Scorpions in Wave Serpents work very well from what I have seen, especially with a Spirit Seer . Even though I am building my Mechdar to be a competitive Tournament List (only because I am tired of seeing my fluff based Elysians get thumped ) I am planning on expanding enough to add in some fun shinanigans such as some Rangers with Illic, some Fire Dragons in Wave Serpents and of course Scopions in Wave Serpents. I also agree, probably one of my Favorite Eldar units, models are awesome!

i woudnt bother with illic. expensive for a model that only wounds half the time.

I do drugs.
