So a while ago we had this thread:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/370761.page

With some Marbo-like champions for other IG regiments.

It was a fun thread and hey, I've got more ideas so here's some more.

I should note I've yet to play 6th edition so if i throw down a rule that no longer applies or doesn't work right let me know.

Cadians – “Slippery” Sgt Seban 30 points

Sgt Seben is an upgrade to an Imperial Guard infantry squad, he replaces the sergeant.

There’s one like him in every platoon. The friendly guy, always there when there’s a card game or a bottle passed around, full of stories and jokes, telling tall tales about old battles and spreading good will where ever he goes.

And man his impression of the colonel, I thought I’d bust a gut laughing.

When you need a weekend pass, or a pack of smokes or some unauthorized reading materials he’s the guy to see. And this one time, I hear he set up C-company with a dozen flamers, then used their fuel to make a keg of moonshine.

Y’know though somehow he’s never around when the Commissar inspects the camp. And when the fighting starts… Well I can’t ever remember seeing him.

Still no matter how rough the action is he’ll show up afterwards looking fresh and unruffled and spouting new stories about what he was doing the fight.

WS3 BS3 S3 T3 W2 I3 A2 Ld8 Sv4+

Wargear – Master-Crafted Bolt Pistol, CC weapon, frag and krak grenades

Special abilities – Grifter, Lucky Seben, He was just here…

Grifter – Slippery Sgt Seben is a talented con man, negotiator and gambler. He tells a great story about how he won his master-crafted bolt pistol from a stuck-up Vostroyan a few years back. He makes sure his squad always has what it needs. Before deployment roll a d6 to see what he has obtained this time.

1-2 Morale boosters – Sgt Seben has liberally supplied his squad with liquor, contraband stimulants and women’s undergarment catalogues. The squad is Leadership 10 for the entire game. (Note: If his squad is combined with other infantry squads all of them gain this benefit.)
3-4 Extra weapon – Sgt Seben ‘found’ an additional special weapon for his squad. Exchange one model with a lasgun from Seben’s squad with a model armed with a special weapon from any IG unit in the army.
5-6 Additional ammo – After winning a bet with the quartermaster Seben has crates of ammo and supplies to share. The squad’s special and heavy weapon count as twin-linked for the entire battle.

Lucky Seben – Sgt Seben’s 4+ save is invulnerable.

He was just here… - Once the fighting starts Seben disappears, usually headed for a safe spot he picked out days ago. At the start of any Imperial Movement Phase he may leave the squad and form a new unit of one model (not an independent character). However he is not worth a kill point and his squad does not surrender a kill point until Seben is also killed.

Note: Seben is an attempt at creating the con-man sergeant beloved by Hollywood. In game play besides buffing his squad he also can deprive your opponent of a kill point by running and hiding early on.

Besides being an amazing idea, does his extra ammo rule only count for his squad even if combined?

Either way, hilariously awesome.

Thanks! Here's one more!

Weapons Specialist Gunther 40 points

His homeworld is unknown but his skills are never in doubt. Gunther is one of the finest weapon-smiths in the sector. A virtual magician he can improve or enhance almost any weapon in the Imperial arsenal. He himself carries an impressive selection of guns and can lay down and significant amount of fire by himself.

Weapons Specialist Gunther is an addition to an Imperial Guard veteran squad.

WS4 BS4 S3 T3 W2 I3 A2 Ld8 Sv5+

Wargear – Master-Crafted Bolt Pistol, shotgun, Custom Autostubber, Close Combat weapon, frag and krak grenades

Special abilities – Gunsmith

Custom Autostubber – This small belt-fed weapon is Gunther’s own creation. Thanks to his fine workmanship it has a rate of fire higher even than some heavy weapons.
S3, AP-, Range 24” Heavy 3

Gunsmith – At deployment roll a d6 to determine how Gunther has improved the squad’s weapons.
1-2 All special and heavy weapons count as master-crafted for the entire battle
3-4 Any model may reroll a shooting roll of ‘1’
5-6 All ranged weapons in the squad count as master-crafted for one turn

Note: This is a case of me loving the model and trying to come up with rules. I mean look at him! A bolt pistol, a shotgun, a belt fed bolter on his back, a chainsword and who knows what else! So rules-wise he’s got a combination of buffs and a useful character on his own.

Hey K_K, I love these.

I'd love even more to add them to this custom 6th edition IG codex I'm writing!

To contribute, here's another IG champion

Imperial Battle Psyker "Merlin the Shrieker" , 30 points

"Merlin the Shrieker" as this psyker is known is quite possibly one of the loudest individuals ever inducted into the Imperial Guard, and was given the nickname for that one time that he went to an imperial-sponsored brothel and...uh....
Interestingly, regimental records are still sealed as to what happened that night, although that was the last time that Merlin was allowed into a brothel.

Merlin the Shrieker is an addition to an Imperial Guard Company Command squad.

WS2 BS4 S3 T3 W1 I3 A2 LD9 SV5+

Special Rules: Psyker, Psychic Mastery 2 (Merlin knows the Psychic Shriek power and one additional power generated from the Telepathy or Biomancy disciplines), Will You Stop Yelling?!

Will you stop Yelling?!: Whenever a company command squad attempts to issue an order, any LD test in which the dice end up as doubles immediately fail and result in a "Could you repeat that, sir?", meaning no more orders may be issued that turn. Even voxes cannot re-roll this result.
In addition, such is the boom of Merlin's voice that any enemy assaulting his squad counts as making a disordered charge.

Thanks! Vlad feel free but also take a look at the prior thread there were some really good ones in there too. They'd need an update for 6th but that shouldn't be too hard.

Next up is one of my favorites (if I do say so myself)

Tallarn – Trooper Ahasver Matathias “The Eternally Faithful” 30 points

No one can be quite sure how long Trooper Ahasver Matathias has served in the Imperial Guard. While this aged warrior appears to be an ordinary man of about 50 standard years of age, fragmentary records from several regiments show his name appearing in multiple engagements going back over three centuries. Ahasver himself is little help, he presents himself as a simple unlettered trooper who learned the Imperial creed by rote. His accounts are rambling and contradictory. He speaks fondly of his old commander Colonel Yon Mohabir, but no one by that name has served in a Tallarn regiment in over 500 years.

His faith and resilience have carried through hundreds of battlefields. Many times he alone has emerged from an explosion, an assault, an inferno having somehow survived catastrophes that killed his fellows.

Over the years legends of his incredible faith and fortune have grown among the ranks inspiring troopers to incredible feats of courage. But whispered rumors calling him a living saint or even claiming the blood of the Emperor himself runs in his veins are quickly put down by a Commissar’s glare or if need be a crack from his pistol. When asked Ahasver himself only says “The Emperor protects” and proceeds to mutter a string of prayers.

Normally a trooper of his age would have long since been transferred to the rear or been mustered out, but Ahasver asks to stay on the front lines so that he may fight and someday die for the Emperor. Despite his distinguished service he has refused all honors and promotions asking only for a chance to serve. So long as his aim is steady his officers are happy to oblige.

Trooper Ahasver Matathias replaces one Guardsman in an Imperial Guard Infantry Squad.

WS3 BS3 S3 T3 W5 I3 A1 Ld7 Sv5+

Wargear – lasgun, close combat weapon, frag and krak grenades

Special abilities – Eternal Warrior, Fearless, Inspiring, Eternally Faithful.

Inspiring –As long as Ahasver is alive his entire squad is Fearless. However if he is removed as a casualty for any reason the entire squad will fall back and be unable to rally.

Eternally Faithful – Note Ahasver’s 5 (!!) wounds and Eternal Warrior. His 5+ save is invulnerable.

Notes: in 40k the Emperor is a god with a galaxy of worshipers so it makes sense that, as with the chaos gods, he would have champions who share a mark. Many Imperial characters like Yarrick and St. Celestine are marked by the ability to withstand incredible amounts of punishment and come back for more, which neatly echoes the Emperor’s endurance on the Golden Throne. So drawing on some lore about the Wandering Jew I give you, Ahasver the unkillable guardsman with no offensive powers whatsoever.

Catachan – Drill Sergeant Butcher 30 points

Catachan is a Death World, where nearly every plant is poisonous and nearly every animal a carnivore. The man and women who live there are some of the toughest and most single-minded individuals in the galaxy.

So how do you turn them into soldiers?

You find someone even tougher and more single-minded and make him their drill sergeant!

Sgt Butcher is a legend in the Catachan Imperial Guard having help mold generations of them in the festering mud-pit they call Camp Kindness, breaking down recruits until they cry for momma and building them back again as proud defenders of the Imperium. He’s been doing this for decades and can still lick any five recruits in a fight.

His services are in great demand across the Imperium and occasionally a well-connected officer will pull strings to have Butcher assigned to his regiment to help whip them into some sort of shape.

Sgt. Butcher replaces the sergeant in one Imperial Guard infantry squad.

WS4 BS4 S3 T3 W2 I4 A3 Ld8 Sv4+

Wargear – Bolter, close combat weapon, las pistol, frag, krak, carapace armor

Special abilities – Drill Instructor, You’ll die when I tell you to die!, Tyranocrock Wrestling, Feel no Pain 4+, stubborn

Drill Instructor – Prior to deployment roll a d6 to see what effect Sgt Butcher’s instruction has had on his squad. Because of his intensive training, his squad may not be combined with other squads in the army.
1-2 Knife Fighting: Squad gains Rending in assault
3-4 Gun Fighting: Squad gains Rending when shooting
5-6 Motivation: The squad is fearless

You’ll Die When I Tell You to Die! – Recruits fear the wrath of Sgt Butcher more than death itself. The squad has the special rule Feel No Pain 4+

Tyranocrock Wrestling – Sgt Butcher is the five-time winner of the All-Catachan Tyranocrock Wrestling Championship. This ‘sport’ requires jumping on the back of a 15’ tall carnivorous lizard and stabbing it repeatedly until it dies or the attacker is thrown off and eaten. When assaulting a monstrous creature, Sgt Butcher counts as having a power weapon and always wounds on 3+. When assaulting a walker he has the special rule Armorbane.

Notes: So here’s another archetypal military guy, the tough as nails drill sergeant. Based more or less on Sgt Slaughter (of wrestling and GI Joe fame) he buffs a squad (but not to an unreasonable level) but on his own he doesn’t seem that fierce in CC (I will hit you 3 times with my S3 non-power weapon!). But get him next to a Wraithknight and suddenly he’s a monster.

There needs to be a DKoK one that gives you VP when your squads (or just the upgraded squad) die. MARTYRDOM FOR THE EMPEROR!

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
