This is kind of an odd question to ask, but I barely really know anyone who plays any GW game. If I were to play against anyone who I didn't know without having to go to a tournament, where do I go and how do I join in a game?

Find a FLGS, somewhere that sells the stuff will likely have people who play the game there. Or you can pressure a friend/brother to collect an army too, then you can start a healthy rivalry/feud!

Best bet is to either go to your local GW on their Game Night (most store have one night a week that they are open later so people can play) or try searching around for a local gaming store and see if they 40k games played in store on any days.

Just walk in, talk to people, and see if anyone is up for a pick up game.

A lot of FLGS have a 40k night, find one near you. Or just bring your army and chat with the guys at the store. At some point, ask if they are up for a game.

You can also check if there are any plans to start a league, escalation or otherwise. Sign up, show up, and be ready to play.

Start a post in the "find a game" section here on Dakka, and see if anyone here lives nearby. I'd guess a large number of us get in fewer games then we'd like, and would jump at a chance to get more in.

Screw your courage to the sticking place and just ask. The worst that happens is someone says "no" and you go on with your life. Best case, you get in some games and meet a new friend.

I thought this was going in a different direction from the title. The answer would be to get medium-level intoxicated and listen to some heavy metal.

In all seriousness, you should try a FLGS. Most have game nights. If you don't love the crowd, perhaps you will still be able to make a few friends and play elsewhere.

- There is a section on dakka dedicated to finding games in your area
- try searching for facebook groups in your area devoted to gaming
- walk into your local store/GW and ask if anyone is looking for a match (my GW always has some people looking for a game of fantasy or 40k)

Does Canada even have GW stores? They're not that popular in the western hemisphere (or, well, anywhere not britain or near-britain continental europe), and if there are only, what, 4? 6? whatever small number in the entire US, then there's probably not going to be one nearby in wherever you are, Canada.

Anyways, as mentioned, Dakka has a section to help you find games, though if you go to google maps and type in "game store X" where X is the name of the city you live in, then you'll probably have a few options presented to you. Usually they will have obvious, fantasy-based store names, or else have ones that are just plain strange that will be a tell. I mean, where I live, we have the Dragon's Table and the Armored Gopher. You're not exactly going to confuse either of those for a dollar store or hair salon.

If they're a store that sells GW products, they'll be a store that has a game night for playing said products.

Google Toronto, Ontario and look for GW's in the vacinity.

There are 4 GW's within 30-40 min drive of my house.

Keep in mind, that was just GW locations. There are many, many more shops that sell GW products/host game nights. I'm sure your area must have some kind of hobby shop nearby or at least a group of people that regularly meet up for some games.

Well, outside of the strange four of them in toronto, there are only four more GW stores in the entire rest of Her Majesty's Great White North. If you live in Winnipeg, say, you're over 2,000 Km (by road) to your nearest Canadian GW store.

Unless you happen to live in Toronto, it's unlikely going to be an option.

All those cities have a GW location - around 80% of Canadian live reasonably close to one of the cities listed above (if not within the city). The OP would have to really unfortunate to not be somewhat close to a GW location.

In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Closest GW I know of was shut down a few months ago. I think there's a comic book store somewhere that does this sort of thing but I'm not quite certain.
