Was considering buying 6 trukks to try a Kult of Speed, but don't want to blow ~200$ to get tabled. Can 6 trukks be viable, and if so, how do I keep them alive?

How to keep trukks alive, SCREW ZOGGING AROOND GET CLOSAH! CLOSAH! drive up 13 (RPJ) turbo boost 12. along with a big mek kff in one of the trukks and then ZOGGING CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

... sorry.. what i mean is. They can work, but being armor 10 they get easily shot down your best hope is to get first turn or steal the iniative. As for the price... try Ebay! you can get some cheap trukks there.

Back to keep them alive part. Big mek with a KFF to allways have a 5+ cover save... and as the orky part of me mentiond.. move up fast as possible and hide behind some LOS blocking terrain or drive into some ruins.

Best regards Kap'n GoldTEEF

Thanks for the replies!

Does a rpj really work? always seemed over costed to me...

Other than that, what should I give the trukks? I was considering reinforced rams to get through terrain, but i also like the idea of cheap, bare-bones transports.

Also, I'm a little worried about sticking the big mek in one of the trukks, since if that one trukk goes the kff is useless. would it make sense to have him follow in a battlewagon?

Red paint has always seemed usefull as with orks you need to make your charges, that 1 inch can make the diffrence. Dont worry about the light nature of the trucks with the ramshakle rules you rarely blow up like normal and loose alot of guys.

If you get tabled it means you don't bring enough trukks.

1500 points
Big Mek (KFF, Burna, Eavy Armor)

2 x 3 Meganobz in trukk

6 x 12 Boyz (Nob Big Choppa, Bosspole) in trukk

3 x Looted Wagon (Boomgun)

Trukk lists are a bit of an all or nothing. With first turn they are good. With second turn or stolen INT they fall to pieces and your immediately at a major disadvantage

I don't think only trukks works, you need to max out your BW's take Nob Bikers and then fill the rest of the troop and elite slots with Trukk mobz (boyz and MANZ) to make good use of them.

They definitely boost the speedy threat target saturation.

As long as every truck is loaded with the max amount of da boyz you can't go wrong. You need those nob bikers to really get things rolling though. Oh I also see you didn't bring the max amount of lootas....

Do you have enough Termagaunts?

Like all spam lists there are scissors to paper.

If you are fighting someone with enough shooting to blow up a block of boyz I would think trukks could work well to force such a quantity of shots to be put on a small target like a trukk.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

As a Chaos player, I get concerned when I see too many trukks on the board. I may be able to blow a couple up before they get close, but usually not enough to stop them from wrecking my plans. I don't really think there's such a thing as 'trukk spam' so much as 'boys spam,' which is pretty horrible when they are being delivered right in front of my units.

I would wait for the new codex next year...I love the idea too, but it's just not good at the moment. point for point a squad of trukk boyz is nowhere near as good as a large mob of shootas. lose two boys when the trukk blows up (and it will, there's a 2/3 chance it blows up when it's wrecked OR explodes, due to ramshackle) and now you're not fearless anymore. with the trukk list you'll be giving up first blood every single game you play, it's just too easy to blow them up, and then after all that, the boyz inside don't pack a hard enough punch there's just too few of them. so sure, charge two squads at each target to get the punch you need, but that's a very inefficient way to do it, and you're putting yourself at a serious disadvantage from the beginning.

Running just trukks, I find that I tend to win or lose at the extremes, nothing really close. I switched up the list from just trukks to running 2 battlewagons (with rollas) of 20 boyz each to help spearhead the charge and it has worked more consistent for me when I go second.

In terms of upgrades for trukks (or in general) RPJ is an auto-take in my book. 1 extra inch doesn't sound like a lot of value but it helps a lot since they are open top vehicles and boyz love close combat. That 1 extra inch is a huge bonus for charge distance. The only other upgrade I tend to take is the ram so I can tank shock but it's rare that I do that. If I find an empty trukk still alive, I'll find a way to have it cause cover for other troops (usually by parking it right in front of a gunline). Wrekking ball is fun but too expensive to be of any real use on a paper transport like a trukk.

One of the largest advantages that Orks have over other armies with their transport is that our trukks don't just outright explode. There's a decent chance that we'll get out without a scratch while it kareens elsewhere. Having the ramshackle table is awesome.
