Hey all,

The summation of my question: What force is going to give me the most freedom in terms of creating a characterful, converted army of elite mini's. With small amount of overall mini's? and usable in friendly scenarios

The main priority is that I would like the force to contain a relatively small amount of mini's. I intend for it to be a heavily converted force and as such don't want to have masses of mini's. I currently play orks and have been loving converting and modelling my models, but I really dont want to play another horde force. I absolutely loved the Dan Abnett book: - For those that haven't read, its a badass inquistitor rolling around blasting chaos scum from the face of the galaxy and its truely awesome! So with loving that book I am really enjoying the lore attached with inquisitors and psykers, which leads me to my second semi requirement - psychic powers, plenty please!

I also fully enjoy the idea of small units filled with diveristy in terms of looks and roles, such as inquisitorial squads, where its the idea of groups of reknowned warriors banding together to kick evil in the butt.

So overall I am getting the impression through research that I either want to be playing Sisters of Battle or Grey knights? Now with this I have a few concerns, so any advice on the following would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sisters of battle are comparitively quite a hard force to play? with limited playstyles - AKA only specific tactics are viable? this is in a friendly games perspective.
  • Sisters of battle are still mostly finecast, and as such hard to convert and expensive to buy?
  • Can I run a list of SoB's that is fairly small in terms of mini's on tabletop without being vehicle heavy?
  • Gk's are in the opposite respect full of faceroll setups? with drop podding 2+ save combat monsters?[/list

I don't know too much about the SoB's, but I do have a copy of the GK codex which ive looked through. If there are any other forces that I havent thought about please let me know
  • Chaos? - Although I played chaos when I was younger and I would prefer a 'for the good' force [list]

I would do grey knights draigo wing is a good way to go. Not sure where you got your SOB information, but that army is almost a horde in power armour. GK draigo wing is about 17-20 models depending how you work it. If you want low model count armies you can look at Deathwing armies as well from dark angels or a logan wing from space wolves.

And sisters are still really expensive one piece metal models that are nearly impossible to convert. Nothing is finecast.

And also in regard of psykers sisters have none. They have their acts of faith on a unit basis but those aren't psychic powers.

As an addendum, space wolves have a ton of characters you can mess with so is a really good IC army. Bjorn being one of my favorite

In Grey Knights you can field Cortez and the whole army can be an Inquisition war band.

You could pretty much model up anything you want (depending on the wargear) so I think this is what you are looking for.

Being hung-up on Draigo to be the beatstick for the army seems to be expected, but see how many of those "tech-monkeys" you can field for the points.

For a truly strange an competitive army so you may have fun with it, you could have a guy with ghosts as part of his squad.

All the character models have something strange with them so at the very least you could laugh at the tactics and fluff.

I think you've pretty much hit it spot on Il have another read through the Cdex. Although im not a fan of the draigo model as he stands, but I wasn't gona stick with normal models anyway But yeh a warband is exactly what I was looking for That sorta gives me freedom across alot of ranges. Thanks for the info guys and Mr.Doom, you can blame yourself for this! it was seeing your latest model, the female commisionar that made me think about how much more interesting the models can be standard GW ones are good but everyone has those! didn't get chance to comment on the thread, but excellent work.

EDIT: Just finished a read through and yeh Cortez and a warband of minions here I come! that is literally the exact fluff army I want to play Fluff and flavour over being an all 2+ army anyday.

Going in a completely different direction, Chaos Daemons can have up to 8 HQs in one FOC, all blinged out with a wide assortment of gear, on models you can convert to be anything and everything.

Granted you'd still need the obligatory two troop squads of ten dudes, but something like the much-abhorred Screamer Star or 8 heralds of khorne with 8 bloodcrushers is about as low-count as it gets daemon-wise.

Comedy-option: 8 heralds of slaanesh on chariots.
