Up until now I was under the impression that Raven Guard vehicles couldn't scout forward because vehicles don't possess chapter tactics. However, on a recent episode of a 40K podcast, I think it was the Preferred Enemy podcast, one of the hosts mentioned they, or someone they had played with, scouted up their Raven Guard rhinos full of troops in a sort of rhino spam list. Is it legal to load up tanks and scout them forward using Raven Guard chapter tactics? I think it'd be a really fun list to play. Thanks DD

I played Raven Guard last night and came up on some of these discussions. This is the way we played it.

YOu cannot Scout, Infiltrate, or Outflank Bulky or Very Bulky Models. This would include Jump Infantry, Terminators, and Centurions.

If Shrike is with the Jump Infantry you can Scout, Infiltrate, or Outflank them, but only them, not the others.

Now, on to your question.

Any other model can Scout, Infiltrate, or Outflank. That includes Tacticals with Rhinos. In fact, I outflanked Tacticals in Rhino.

So, as long as it's not Jump Infantry, Terminators, or Centurions I believe the Chapter Tactics apply.

Now I won't trust my faulty memory, and space marines are not my strong point to begin with, but this Chapter Tactic grants the scout universal special rule does it not?

If so; then your answer can be found under the Special Rule section of the book. I do not have the big rule book on hand, currently at work or I would also verify the Chapter Tactic special rule, so I can not give you the exact page number. However a quick flick through the index should allow you to find the location within the book without to much difficulty. This special rule should inform you how it interacts with transport vehicles carrying models with said special rule... and there you will find your answer.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Yep you're right, just looked up scout in the BRB and the transport does indeed get the scout rule as well. Cheers!

Dedicated transports gain Scout, Infiltrate from their unit being embarked in them.

Note that, while terminators can take a dedicated transport, they gain NO benefit from Scout. IF you try to Scout their LR, then they have benefitted and you have broken a rule.

If you want scouting landraiders then you need a Khan led army...

Chapter tactics only apply to any models with the chapter tactics special rule listed. Unless otherwise stated in the chapter tactics rules eg. Iron hand that apply to vehicles

As dot backslash said, no vehicles in the Space Marine codex have the chapter tactics special rule. The only exception is when you take a dedicated transport that benefits from the unit inside it, so if you have your unit in a rhino with it you can use scout for deployment or for outflanking.
