Sacrifice to the Dark God Tzeentch
San Antonio

Hello, this is my first post, and I've viewed dakka dakka in the past and used the information in it frequently. I've been involved in the 40k hobby for 10 years now, and I've owned necrons in the past, but never really got into actually playing, its been more of a collection/painting hobby sort of deal for me, stacked on top of fluff reading and gaming. I also have a mark of Tzeentch tattoo on my right arm, if you couldn't tell he's my favorite god. I have come across a problem. I can't find any lists that are mono tzeentch that aren't light on the Daemon usage. I want a primarily CSM list, and have a daemon prince that I'd like to use. Daemons always show up in great numbers in most other Tzeentch lists I've seen, and they seem a bit FoM with the whole screamer star thing going on. If anyone could help me come up with a primarily Tzeentch list that doesn't use Daemons so much, I'd appreciate it. I'm just trying to get an idea of the models I need to get ahead of time. I am fond of helldrakes regardless of their bad rep.
I really appreciate any help offered, and I look forward to being more involved in the community.

Strangely Beautiful Daemonette of Slaanesh

Welcome to the community! I'd like to make a list for you right now but I'm preoccupied and I'm sure someone that actually plays with Tsons will help you out better then myself. You'll probably be hearing from Brometheus. I will have to say that if you want to use a DP, DoT is the right way to go. Give the DP wings, DoT, PA, GoM, black mace, and mastery levels and he's a tough cookie (he's expensive and hopefully you'll get boon of mutation) Also I typically see HQ mainly being Ahriman due to his warlord trait and being ML4. Last note, if you have a lot of points in MoT oblits and MoT havocs with LC/ ML I suggest getting a Landing pad

I appreciate your help! Also yeah, I was considering getting Ahriman, but I've been hearing from some others that it was better to get just a sorcerer, although I do love Ahriman's lore and wouldn't hesitate to add him. I've heard that Termis with the MoT were probably the best MoT units this codex, would it be worth investing in them?

I d say play Ahriman, he's a cool model, tzeentch terminators are awesome give them combies, and a land raider.
Maybe try Ahriman in a group of 20 acolytes, moving up field casting spells!
And a flying demon prince.

Some things:
-Only purchase Ahriman if you intend on using 3x Witchfires each turn. That said, he can't always do that if he walks. He should be hopping out of a Rhino or out of a Land Raider. People say that ML 3 Sorcerers are better. They are cheaper, yes.. but it sure does suck when you roll up three Witchfires that you can't use all at once. Spell Familiar is a must, if you get them. Sigil of Corruption is not. I won't try to convince you either way because there are times when I have a Sorcerer HQ outperform Ahriman psychically because of Spell Familiar.
-MoTz Terminators are great if you run units of 5-10. They're best when they take lots of Invulnerable Saves at once, instead of just a couple. So if you know you have to take Vindicator shots or something before you get into combat after a Deep Strike, they're your boys. I use 5 with Power Axes, MoTz and VotLW. They are a lean 197pts and are excellent at slaying enemy Deathwing Terminators. They're even descent against most Troops in the game. Don't worry about giving them combat weapons. Deep-strike and then Run to spread out.
-Why do Heldrakes have a bad rep? If you're a Tzeentch player, why would you care? They are practically *made* for us. Use them.
If you're interested, I can make you two 2k sample lists that do not use Daemons, but can hold their own against most opponents. Both lists have enough Troops and include FA and HS units for Scouring and Big Guns Never tire, in case your Tsons get wiped out. The first uses a Chaos Sorcerer. The second is based around Ahriman and is twice as aggressive as a result.
#1:
Tzeentch Chaos Sorcerer- Terminator Armor, Power Axe, ML: 3, Spell Familiar
10 Thousand Sons- Rhino
10 Thousand Sons- Rhino
10 Thousand Sons- Rhino
13 Cultists
12 Cultists
Heldrake- Baleflamer
Heldrake- Baleflamer
3 Obliterators- MoTz
Predator- Lascannon Sponsons, Warpflame Gargoyles
Predator- Lascannon Sponsons, Warpflame Gargoyles
#2
Ahriman
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch- Wings, 3+ Armor, Black Mace
10 Thousand Sons- Rhino
10 Thousand Sons- Rhino
26 Cultists
Heldrake- Baleflamer
Heldrake- Baleflamer
5 Havocs- Plasma Gun x4, Rhino (Ahriman goes here)
Vindicator- TL Bolter, Possession
Vindicator- TL Bolter, Possession
As you can see, both lists have different play styles. #1 is more conservative. #2 always has the Havocs either Infiltrating or Outflanking at a minimum. Ideally, Ahriman is deployed with them. He *can* be with the Cultists vs. some opponents, but use caution- They should just be left on their own. Ahriman, despite what the internet says about his melee abilities, is best when deployed close to the enemy to use his Witchfire powers.
Hope this gives you some ideas. The best way to play Thousand Sons is just dive in and learn how to use the psyker rules best.

remember tzeentch is 9. so make all your units 9 modles (or multiples thereof) for extra luck! also take ahriman, he can cast 4 powers a turn (ML 4) 3 of which can be blowy upness of shooting powers >:3

This was extremely helpful and I really appreciate your help. I do think I'll be going with #2 because I am quite fond of the Daemon prince. I really can't emphasize how useful this was for me. Now I know what I need to get, so thank you very much Automatically Appended Next Post: raiden wrote:remember tzeentch is 9. so make all your units 9 modles (or multiples thereof) for extra luck!

I always remember his number is 9, I'm one of those types with the mark of Tzeentch tattooed on their right shoulder I do appreciate the fluffiness.
