Right, what do we got here. Biel-Tan is all about Aspect shrines and aspect warriors. So, I created an armylist that would represent as many aspects as possible, and I managed to get 8 out of the 9 aspects into the armylist as more are simple not possible due to FOC restriction (had to leave the Warp Spiders out as the Crimson Hunters are aspect warriors too).

What are the strengths of this armylist? What does it lack? Let's find out:

To begin with, my HQ is an Autarch. Classy for a Biel-Tan army, they give preference to Autarchs over Farseers. Plus, his reserve roll modifier will come in VERY handy as I'll keep the Hawks and Crimson Hunter in reserve - I want the former arriving ASAP, while the latter should arrive AFTER enemy flyers have arrived. 2+ and 4+ respectively on turn 2 will bring these rolls into my favor.

The Autarch, with his 5 S6 AP3 power attacks on charge, will join the Shining Spears and smash into anything scary that needs to be dealt with quick and doesnt have 2+ armor. Yeah, Laser Lances aren't what they used to be, but now we have AP3 shooting attacks with them too, so they actually got better strictly against MEQ and most MCs. The Exarch has monster hunter to help wound MCs and hit and run which is crucial for my team to not get bogged down in cc.

Then I have the infiltrating Striking Scorpions, who pose another immediate threat. Maxed out squad, plus Exarch with Scorpion's Claw means they can deal with pretty much anything.

My Banshees are on foot, as you may have noticed, but they are at max strength and move an average 11" across the table on first turn and have a good chance of reaching cc by turn 2. 6th edition anyway forces them to spend a turn doing nothing after disembarking, so Wave Serpents on them are useless. In the worst case, they are merely a fire magnet. At space marine points cost, in a 2k game their bullet sponge is affordable if the enemy wants to pour everything at them.

I'll go for a "fish of fury" tactic with the Dire Avengers, dropping them where massed firepower is needed and 20 S4 shots can always come in handy. The Holofielded Wave Serpent with its tl-Scatterlaser + Serpent Shield + Shuriken Cannon, all firing at TL-BS4 ought to devastate light infantry and nicely compliment the DA's fire. The other DA squad is backfield objective holder. 18" range will do.

Then I have the Dark Reapers, also backfield, whose exarch has a BS5 TRIPLE small blast AP3 weapon that can come in very handy against MEQ.

The Crimson Hunter is obviously there to dogfight other Flyers.

My primary anti-tank / anti-TEQ comes from the Falcon carrying the Fire Dragons and Fuegan into combat. This unit right here is one mean threat to the enemy. They got a Heavy Flamer so they cant get tarpitted by light infantry. They got fusion guns to bust tanks. They got a split fire Fuegan with his double shot Firepike to blow up a second tank. And in cc Fuegan can slice his way excellently with his AP2 axe at initiative. 6th ed codex means 3+ armor saves on all the boys.

The Falcon is Ballistic Skill 4 now, so the Pulse Laser and Starcannon will take their toll on enemy MCs and TEQ without issues. Got a 4+ cover save as defence thanks to Holofields.

My secondary anti-tank comes from the swooping hawks. Pinpoint deep-strike behind LoS blocking terrain and 9 haywire attacks one turn later mean even Land Raiders will get insta-wrecked. Then I have their 27 lasblaster shots at 24" + the large blast cover ignoring pie plate to thwart GEQ as well.

Overall I'm very happy with the theme of this list and its effectivity in battle as well. What do I have against various types of enemies?

TEQ: Falcon, Fuegan, Fire Dragons (+ banshees' executioner and striking scorpions' scorps' claw for emergencies)
MCs: Autarch, Shining Spears, Fuegan, Fire Dragons
MEQ: Dark Reapers, Banshees + above
GEQ: Dire Avengers, Wave Serpent, Swooping Hawks
Anti-tank: Fire Dragons, Fuegan, Swooping Hawks, Wave Serpent (+Falcon for emergencies)
Anti-Flyer: Crimson Hunter

C&C much appreciated

Cheers,
-Sir Arun

The best 10 pts you could spend here would be to give that shining spears exarch a star lance, even if that means dropping hit and run or the extra man.

The Twilight Zone

An autarch is a good choice for your list, but you might want to consider a bit more oomph. A banshee mask will ensure your spears strike at the same time as most opponents should you have to charge through cover. A scorpion chainsword is a nice cheap weapon for subsequent rounds of combat. However, as is works just fine too.

Fuegan is a good phoenix lord, but I think he is better off with avengers, despite the obvious clash in fluff. His split fire allows him to nuke a tank while the avengers gun down footsloggers. If you take an exarch with a shimmershield, he gains a 5++, and that many counter attack bodies will help ward off CC threats.

The scorpions should also be considered MC hunters. In a round of shooting+successful charge, they will kill a tervigon on average. That is pretty powerful stuff.

Fire dragons are great, but they should be strict anti tank. Your list has tons of ability to kill troops, an extra heavy flamer won't matter all that much, but a melta gun will. A melta exarch+fast shot is a great choice. You could also just go with 5 naked dragons. As far as a transport, the wave serpent beats the falcon hands down. It is more reliable to deliver troops, and has excellent shooting. The pulse laser is the one thing the falcon has the serpent lacks, but serpents are cheaper and all around better.

2 troop choices is a concern, and the shimmershield exarch would help get more survivability out of them. Alternatively, you could put 5 in the falcon and have them hide while the falcon sits back(obviously giving the dragons a serpent in this case)

The swooping hawk exarch does not need withdraw, as they should not assault anything but tanks. If anything serious gets to them, they will die anyways. Either take a sunrifle on the exarch or drop em altogether. You could also get by with just 6.

Crimson hunter is also an AT source against lists with no airpower. The exarch upgrade helps the hunter do its job, as it will only get 1-2 chances before it goes down.

I agree that you need a star lance for your spear exarch. S8 ap2 is way too good to turn down for the points.

Reapers fit the theme, but provide more of what your list already has. Giving them all starshot missiles keeps the anti MEQ focus, but gives the ability to hunt armor. Either way, give the exarch night vision so a first turn night fight does not mitigate their first turn potential.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Personally, I adore the theme! And themed lists are my favourite! But, I don't know how well it'll work. I don't know why - But the scorpions and the banshees just look too squishy. I love scorpions, so I can see a point in keeping them, but banshees are best left in the carry case! Serpent or no serpent I just don't think they're worth the points!

I'd also argue that warp spiders are one of our best units! With the ability to deal with ALL but AV14, although I understand they're difficult to fit in.

Lastly, in my personal opinion, a serpent is better than a falcon. It doesn't get the S8 guns, although you could give it lances, but that serpent shield makes all the difference to me. And it'll keep your fragons alive longer. A 4++ on a falcon just isn't good enough! And anyone that knows it houses fragons and fuegan will waste no time popping it!

Seriously, it looks like a collection of models but not like an army list if you like to play at the competitive level.

Right I have considered some of your suggestions and changed the list accordingly: I dropped 2 Dire Avengers, 3 Swooping Hawks, their Exarch upgrade and Hit & Run, and with the 97 points gained, gave the Crimson Hunter an Exarch to get BS5 on all 4 S8 shots as well as precision shot; gave the Autarch a Banshee mask, took a third scoring unit (5 man "sit-on-home-objective" Ranger squad), gave the Dark Reapers Exarch nightvision and gave the Shing Spears Exarch the Starlance.

Biel Tan is usually played as a sword wind army with all Aspects mounted into Serpents. Foot slogging is a slow way to die.

Austin, Texas.

yet again, i dont see why you have a flalcon.
they dont have a place in fluff anymore than serpents do, so thats out.

and serpents are better in everyway vs falcons. they are CHEAPER, more transport capacty (noth that it really matter with the dragons) and will do better in the role that you wanted the flacon for, kill meqs and teqs. that much s6-7 shots will do more than that pulselaser and starcannon, and if you really want to kep them alive, that serpent sheild will do it betetr than that falcon.
trust me, drop the flacon.

^^^^^^^^^ that exactly. I personally completely agree! It is personal opinion I suppose, but based on my experience falcons suck, and serpents can win games!
