So....how competitive can Dark Angels actually be in 6th edition? Pure wing, double wing or tri-wing....doesn't matter to me, just give me my best options for a competitive list....even if I need allies in the list.

A few of the more competitive Dark angel lists are ravenwing lists with a bunch of black knights. Those guys are insane for their strengths. I believe the best list out there includes 3 squads of them + 2 command squads one with banner of fortitude the other with banner of the ravenwing

vet spam can work. DW terminators do well untill you fight IG/eldar. bikes are really good untill you meet helldrakes balefalmers and it just wipes them :/

I like ravenwing...so that's all good. I had to shorten my OP because I was posting from work and something came up. Basically I have a chaos army and dark angels. I've always been a dark angels fanboy, even way back in the RT days with black and red armor. So I'll always have a DA army. But, I would like to have an army that I can build a really competitive list with as well. Would I be better off using my DA for fun/casual games and focus on my chaos army for competitive list making or with ravenwing will I be able to make something as competitive? I know RW has a weakness in the flier department, but through IG allies I can fix that no?

Bring 2 Helldrakes - not 3. Big difference.

Bringing 3 unbalances your list, and 2+ save heavy armies will walk right thru you. Bringing 3 is also di ckish, unless you are in a competitive tournament, which you won't win anyway with 3.

I disagree, 1500 = two, but 2000= 3.

1750 is a toss up.
since not many people bring 2+ armies anymore.

I have been competitive with ravenwing the biggest thing about ravenwing is picking you're reserves and combat squads very carefully for the mission being played. That made the biggest difference for me.

Greenwing can be competitive as regular marines just doesn't have all of the toys so......

Pure dewthwing are the least competitive but I think if you are running them in transports and get them into combat right away and bounce from cc to cc they can ruin armies.

Dw and rw are finesse armies for sure. Greenwing is more of point and click with a 50/50 shot

Ravenwing are far and away the most competitive, but the others can be fun. Taking that many T5 bikes is awesome when you stick the Dakka Banner in a command squad. Having 12 or more Salvo 4 twin liked bolter shots coming at you in the first or second turn is pretty terrifying!

I have been pretty competitive with a mesh. Everything is such precision strokes due to what certain units are good at ie. deathwing knights can merc squads and nearly any armor, but a shooty army will rip them up through volume. The jets are vastly overpriced, but they can wreck shop and oddly enough AV11 rear is handy...I don't know how many drakes I've lost from shuriken pistols and crap in the rear...

Bikes are considered the best, I only have bad luck with them lol. Example I had 9 shots from a wave serpent scatter/shield combo wound 5 bikes in my ravenwing command/PFG/Apoth squad. Killed 4 of them.

You just have to put a lot more thought in what roles each unit is primarily going to have. I'll post an 1850 DA list for ideas.

DA are tons of fun because you can be creative.

I also play DA and CSM and find both equally as fun and can be competitive. I try not to play conventional lists "Moar draaakes!"
