Chaos Space Marines, Space Wolves, Necrons or Grey Knights
I have narrowed down to these 3 because of the following reasons
Sisters of Battle (I dont like the aesthetic and too expensive)
Orks (Horde Army - expensive)
Tyranids (Horde Army - expensive)
Imperial Guard (Horde Army, Friend Plays Them, Expensive, Not futuristic enough for me)
Space Marines (everyone plays them)
Blood Angels, Space Marines (Friends play them)
Chaos Demons (Horde Army)
Eldar (Currently Own a small Army but dont play them that much)
Dark Eldar (too much of a resemblance to Eldar)
Tau (Friend Plays Them)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why I like the other three
[ b]CSM[/b] - Really like the models, lots of detail, mid range pricing, however my only problem is that my friend has a massive army of them (bigger than the ultramarine army in the white dwarf), however he offered me some bits - which I have previously accepted to make my Chaos Eldar
Necrons - cool, futuristic, i have a great idea for a colour scheme, however quite repetitive in terms of models - which may put me off...
Grey Knights - very cool , cheap....er, great idea for a colour scheme, awesome models with great detail , however limited choice when it comes to models...
Space Wolves - tried them once - lost a few models sold the rest since I lost the others - only had 10 marines, love the colour scheme i used for them - dark/ black grey instead of baby blue, quite different compared to other loyalist marines, however since I have done other marines in the past (even though there are more details in this and gk are completely different) - i gave up my old space marines and am even now selling them at pretty much the same price - minus 1 or 2 pounds to my friends...
So idk? Pls Help me, leave your comments below pls. Much help appreciated! Post below why I should choose one of the four bottom armies or if not others...

If I were you I would go with either necrons or space wolves. BUT I noticed on your list of stuff you don't want you said because your friends have them, is that not good if they have them?
It really depends on if your a painter or a gamer or a middle man haha
I think that space wolves are cool they have cool models I like the fur and stuff on them and like their colour scheme.
Necrons are really cool too tho I like how they look on the table really futuristic and cool and are a great army. It might get repetitive like you said but that is the same with any army really.
Now for the Chaos Space Marines - You have space marines right now and that gives you a good base if you are up for some modelling and slapping some chaos bits on them which is always fun to make them chaos space marines.
If you want to go chaos but your friends have them try the Daemons, great models and they have some pretty awesome magic in their army! I think all the warp tables and stuff is really cool. I know you said they are a horde army but they are not really a horde army sort of a half horde army its weird haha
What armies do you play right now? What kind of play style do you like?

Hey chief, thanks for the rapid response...
Interesting choices. Regarding my friends having them yes, well the main friend I usually play with is the guy with the massive csm army who also plays orks and imperial guard... i would play the other but considering pretty much half of the armies are marine based it would get quite boring if the battle with my other friends were just marine on marine... however the other friends I hardly play with often and most often or not i am usually at my local GW which has a great atmosphere and the staff are very cool with great looking armies - Here everyone has a different army and i swear I see new ones popping up on the table everyday. So it would be cool to play which is not marine based (and if is not looking like they are completely standard marine but with more cool bits - ie gk, csm and sw) - here i could play a different army and be different than be another guy who plays ultramarines or blood angels etc...
I am more of a painter than a gamer generally and spend a lot of time on my painting to make them look great on the battlefield - and hence dont play many games - but the ones I do, i have a lot of fun doing so.
The current armies I have are a chaos based Eldar and sigh marines... which I will sell to fund this project - If I wanted CSM i would rather get the actual CSM box than buy a tactical squad and keep bothering my friend for bits
More so, I like to play small to mid armies that have a wide variety of models that look good on the table regardless of size due to variations and details. My play style is mixed by mainly mid-field ish - if i see khorne bezerkers coming my way i move back than try to face them each on - which i rather do by assaulting from behind them or their side - however i see a group of tactical marines - i would love to shoot them them - my playstyle varies of the army and i am flexible...
I would consider demons - but my csm friend also has those since he does kinda play chaos... - however i see that it could be multifunctional for both 40k and fantasy - however the models though some of them are cool - ie hqs and elites - the rest are same old same old - black reach marine type repetition in my feeling...
So i am now currently more stuck but am leaing more towards the side of necrons, GKs and CSM than space wolves currently
Any more ideas? Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have always dreamed of having a draigowing army because they look so bad ass - however are they still viable in 6th ed - sine they can be easily shot even though they are terminators - but give a riptide or heldrake on the opposing team means i well - I see in most GK army lists these days of coteaz and henchmen spam which i am not really into but would be more wanting to play actual GK than have henchmen do the dirty work of fighting chaos...
can't imagine what the codex cover for GKs would look like if the eldar, csm and sm so far look sooooooooooooooooo awesome!

dragio wing is VIABLE, they are not the same "I win" button they used to be though. some bad rolls may break the game in your opponents favor. now if you are looking for super teir competitive vs deldar, edlar, and tau? necrons would be better. but I still like drago wing.. I mean, silver paladins. how awesome is that.

Well based on what you said to my questions I might have to say Chaos Space Marines just because the models have a ton of variety and you will be able to have variation in most models.
I have seen some really cool paint schemes although I am not a fan of the Khorne scheme personally.
This would be good for you since Grey Knights are just space marines really so in your area there are alot of space marine players so the models won't look to different. They do play different obviously but paint wise not so much.
Necrons are really cool and are really good on the battlefield but again lack of variation. They all have generally the same look to them Shiny Skeletons lol which might get boring fast when painting.
Overall I would go with Chaos Space Marines because of painting and modeling (Variation) and fun to play!

Id go with Necrons simply because I think a fully painted consistent Necron armies is on of the most impressive things you can see on a table top they just fit together so well. Also love the look of chaos except i just simply dont like the models for straight up chaos marine troops, if they were better id play Chaos

I will make a quick argument for Orks. IMHO, they are the most fun army to play. Yes, they are a horde army, but you don't have to play Green Tide. I've found that you can get by up to 1750 with one 30-boy shoota mob and one 30-boy slugga mob. After that, you'd be surprised how good grots are at camping, and how effective trukks can be. I know Orks aren't as good as they used to be, but they'll get a new dex soon, and all of these units will still be useful. Making that initial investment of one big mob of each kind will almost definitely carry you into the 6th ed update just fine.
Also, I think you would be best off if you choose your army based upon sound core principles, rather than what people on a forum think (except for me. You should listen to what I think ). To paraphrase myself: Collect an army you are enthusiastic about fantasizing about, modeling, painting, and playing. These are the four major aspects of our hobby, and the army you collect should satisfy all of those needs. The rest is just making a fun list that can win some games.

Well, I'd opt for Necrons. I play Necrons reguarly in tournaments and they are very rewarding even with repetitive units.

About horde army being expensive. No matter who you pick, it's going to be expensive.
So if you want to pay the least, maybe, MAYBE Grey Knights. Low model count, but the miniatures are just as expensive as orks or Nids.

One option I do not see up here, have you thought about dark angels, either Ravenwing (bikes and speeders) or Deathwing, (terminators)?
EDIT: If you just love the model end, I would say SLOWLY collect orkz, that is if you are fine with the occasional wtf epic fail moment (such as shokk attack gunz). Orkz, CSM, and Imperial guard probably have the most conversion potential imo.

Only kidding I decided to go with CSM with necron allies instead - I decided if I cant have one or either combine them to make a force!
Thanks guys for all your input - Much appreciated

Pile of Necron Spare Parts

Chaos Daemons: Random, unpredictable, amazing in close combat, little shooting, most can be frail, big nasty monstrous creatures, specialized so most units are best at one roll and rely on others to support them, due to their unique means of deployment they are hard to counter and mount an effective defense against, the enemy never knows where they'll show up so will always have to be on their toes.
Chaos Space Marines: Very diverse and adaptable, strong units, elite army with lower numbers, can be balanced but also really good in close combat and can shoot pretty well too, the same unit can be geared for very different roles depending on chaos mark taken, some of the best troops in the game.
Daemon Hunters: Lots of character, powerful close combat units, Grey Knights are a very elite army very few models, lots of options and customization, somewhat specialized towards fighting Daemons, can ally with some armies. Can struggle with some armies.
Dark Eldar: Fast moving and hard hitting but frail and can't keep up a sustained attack or a defense, have to go on the offensive and play their cards right, can have a hard time with armies who field hordes of models, best in close.
Eldar: Very specialized, have certain units for specific battlefields roles all of which need to support each other well to work, usually smaller elite army with a good amount of speed and some nice firepower but kind of frail, can be good at close combat too.
Imperial Guard: Standard troops are weak on their own but are fielded in large numbers, a lot of ranged firepower, struggle in combat and rely on mostly numbers to pull through them, lots of tanks and heavy support, good elite strike units, have difficulty taking objectives as they are slow to mobilize and react but can put up one nasty defense.
Necrons: Very hard to kill warriors, amazing close range shooting, dead units can repair and get back up, some cool teleporting tricks, most are kind of slow, not a very diverse army, most are weak in combat but have ways of pulling out and redeploying quickly.
Orks: Can field large numbers, shooting relies on quantity not quality, amazing in close combat but need to be the ones to initiate it most times to be effective, preemptive and counter attacks can hurt them, low armour but pretty tough so can be hard to wound, some wacky and odd ball rules, have a sense of humor but none the less a powerful army with a lot of variation.
Space Marines: The all rounders, jack of all trades master of none, almost all units can hold their own, elite army with smaller numbers than some forces, Good close range shooting and some fantastic close combat units though they are expensive points wise, also have some top notch support fire, close combat specialists will beat them in combat, ranged specialists will beat them at range but they are pretty good at both so can assume either role to counter the enemy rather well.
Tau Empire: A very mobile reactionary force with very powerful shooting and some interesting weapons for setting up brutal volleys of fire. Lots of hit and run style tactics but are the absolute worst army in close combat where every army has an edge on them, goal is to stay out of combat and pick their firefights on their terms where they can bring their ranged power to bear on sections of enemy armies at a time, have just about the best long range anti-tank firepower as well.
Tyranids: A rather versatile army, has lots of options for customizing, great at close to medium range shooting and close combat, can bring swarms off little guys, or a few really big powerful ones as well as anywhere in between, have a hard time dealing with tanks outside of combat but most are pretty quick, big ones are tough but fall to focused fire and little ones are weak and rely on numbers for the most part, don't have a lot of armor piercing firepower but many ways to get through armor in combat, most of their shooting relies on high strength, volume of fire and their living ammunition to re-roll to wound, also have some interesting ways to damage enemy morale and pin the enemy down.
Witch Hunters: Great against enemy psykers, a very mobile mechanized force, lots of close range shooting with a lot of flamer and melta weapons, weak in combat but amazing in close range firefights and have acts of faith to pull them out of sticky situations or really hit home with their attacks, Can be hard to deal with because of these acts of faith but they are limited so have to be saved for the right time, Also rely a lot on transports to be effective so if their rides are disabled they will have a hard time bringing their full firepower to bear but do have some effective mobile units as well and like Daemon Hunters can ally with some other factions.
Got this from MiniWarGaming.com. Hope it helps!
