I've just read 'Mechanicus' of the Horus Heresy series, and it's inspired me to consider a Dark Mechanicus themed army using the Forge World models, and I have no idea what sort of conversions to do or what I should use for things like Thralls, Servitors etc... I'm not very good with green stuff (in fact I'm abysmal) so it'd have to be pre-existing stuff, but I'm willing to experiment, any ideas?

Well Forgeworld is working on a lot of new mechanicus themed models so those might be a good base for conversions with maybe some dark eldar bits.

Then dark eldar themself have some models that would also work as some sort of mechanical abominations.

Some chaos models would also work as a technical base for conversions, Soulgrinder, defiler, helbrute, forgefiend ...

Then there are the Micro Art Iron Brotherhood models: http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/iron-brotherhood-c-36_43.html

And The Strain from Sedition Wars: http://studiomcvey.highwire.com/products/strain-resin-castings?pagesize=40

The Dark Age game also has some models that might work, mostly their larger mechanical stuff like those:
https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/core/core-pathfinder-1.html
https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/core/core-rend-1.html
https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/core/core-menials-3.html

Anvil Industry has some models that might work as basic troops (Athough they might be a bit to "tame" for dark mechanicus)

http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=98_99
http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=108_112

And there are a ton of awesome dark mechanicus conversions in this blog: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1230/395043.page
But you have to browse forward for his dark mechanicus. The first 40 pages are mostly his normal chaos stuff.

Edit:

Oh and Prodos Games Warzone Resurrection might also have something for you.(Maybe the Dark Legion or Cybertronics factions?) But i think they are still unreleased.

Wow, thanks. I'm thinking I'm definitely going to get my hands on:
Forge World Mechanicus stuff (The Forge Magus guy, some Thrallax and some Castellax)
Some Servitors from the Space Marine Range
Dark Eldar Talos/Chronos
Some Strain
Some Tox Troopers
SPIKEY BITZ

Maybe browse through those pictures here: http://natfka.blogspot.de/2013/10/games-day-italy-pictures-of-some-new.html

Those include a few more FW mechnicus models that will be released soon i think.

Looks cool, but I cannot discern what any of those things are due to the harsh lighting :(

If you would like a idea of a rule set for them using normal codexes grey knight inquisitor retinues would make a great start. Take a chaos version of coteiz and go crazy. Heck a dreadknight would make a sweet rules base for some kind of foul teck abomination.

I was actually thinking of converting up one of those SoB Walkers, they look pretty mechanicus-ey ;P

Taban Miniatures also has the ESC, a mech/drone army. Some pretty cool models there.

Very cool models, but not really the style I'm looking for, I'm thinking less of a mech army.. And more cogs and grease, if you know what I mean. Proper, industrial age looking stuff ;P Very robust, very clunky, very scary

Shred City.

The models linked in this thread are fantastic. I may use a few of those for my new Adeptus Mechanicus army . . .

I was wondering if people could keep the suggestions coming . . . I need good models for this.

I certainly am trying my best to keep the thread running but I'm struggling, not a lot of people have an interest in AdMech or stuff to convert them with x/

I'm loving the whole mech thing but there just isnt enough out at the moment. Trying to be patient but it's not easy!!! I'm trying to do a zone mortalis set up with mechanics defenders so i can throw different armies at them. Again though their just isn't enough out to mount a reasonably intereting defense so I've had to top them up with iron hands breeches marines and dreadnought.
Am looking forward to new releases though and will keep adding to my space station defense force!

I'd probably go for a couple of those spanking Tarantula Turrets to go with your defense force, and have them pop up from the floor or something, as traps ;P How cool would that be? But anyway, I'd also go for some Tech Guard if I were you, the Cadian Hostile Environments troops look amazing for that purpose

I've thought of converting some stuff from non GW models but thralls are coming out soon and who knows what's doing the FW corner. It was easier to think of conversions before the new mech models began to be released.

The turrets would be a cracking idea though!

I do love the Forge World Tarantulas, aside from this I'd be very tempted to get some of the Forge World Renegade Militia, I think they'd make some great Tech Guard.. But then again I love IG so xD In fact, most of the Chaos Renegades and Heretics line look very Dark Mechanicus/Mechanicus-y

Ahh yes, this fine thread has had some developments.

I didn't even know about the Cadian Hostile Environment models. They look pretty good but I still see my Adeptus Mechanicus army not having . . . pure humans in it.

Well, as I said, take a look at the Renegades and Heretics Renegade Milita, as they seem to have a lot of cybernetic/robotic enhancements :3 They also look cool as gak

Raging Heroes has a unit of servitors coming out with their Toughest Girls of the Galaxy Kickstarter. They also have some exceptionally fine tech-hybrid people. (Nephahrya in particular would make a great priestess, and the Iron Empire in general fits with the aesthetic described in the book that inspired you.)

Those look fantastic but I've always been sort of intimidated by kickstarters, as I wouldn't be able to play them in my local GW.. Aside from this, the whole ordeal confuses me and I don't really understand what to do xD

Yeah I'm definitely going to grab the mechanical models from that set. I saw them when it first launched and already made a vow to get them.
