Subject: Primer causing resin to erode?

Hey everyone. Earlier today, I sprayed down a SW Iron Priest and after I was done I noticed that it looked like someone had blasted the front of it with sand. I tried to scrape some off with my knife, but then I realized that it was actually holes in the resin that had not previously been there. I have also had this happen with Mantic's restic as well. Does anyone know what causes this?
Also, will I be able to cover it with liquid green stuff and make it look somewhat presentable? I'll post a picture up once I get home from work.
Thanks,
B

I have never ever heard of this....very bizzare.
What brandprimer?
Usually, the "sand" or "gritty" effect is from the primer drying mid air (spraying too far) and you getting tiny globules on the model.
(search for it for more info, there are literally DOZENS of threads on "gritty primer).
However, if you are sure the model itself is being eaten....wow.
That primer sounds amazingly caustic and dangerous, please make sure you are not breathing that stuff!!!!

I believe it was Krylon (cheap stuff, I know, but I've never had an issue with it up until recently), and it was weird to me because I sprayed two other finecast models at the same time (from the same distance), and it didn't happen to them...

I haven't heard of something like that. What primer diod you use? Did you wash the model? And are you really sure that the damage wasn't there before? And without a picture it will be hard to say how hard the damage is to fix. But if the holes are small enough liquid greenstuff could work. But you probably won't get a perfectly smooth surface again. Also where did you get the model? I don't know if this is even possible but maybe some recasts sold on ebay are made from dubious materials that react strangely to primers? But this is probably not the case here as mantic models reacted the same as you said.

I just had my girlfriend text me and tell me, it was Rustoleum, not Krylon. And I always wash my finecast models before I spray them, and the damage definitely wasn't there before, I wouldn't have bought it if it was.
I'll try to see if she can send me a picture when she gets back to the house. Automatically Appended Next Post: It wasn't a recast, it was at my LGS

It sounds like a reaction. I would say its more to do with the casting process; the mini may not have been pressurised enough. This could certainly entail the initial surface to appear smooth but brittle, allowing the primer to destroy it.

Sounds like air bubbles under the surface of the mini to me. I've seen it happen on fibreglass before. If the surface of the piece is thin enough, the solvent in the primer can dissolve it. Exposing the casting fault beneath.
I could be wrong though.

Something like this happened to me too, but I was using Citadel black primer. The model I sprayed had multiple small holes on its surfaces. Other than that the surface of the models still looked pretty smooth
