nice batrep!

weird list on the tau side. the riptides with the commander do pull a lot of weight but man...those things are pricey. The single RR broadside is also an obscure choice.

It was fun to watch.

Awesome game HomeSkillet. Look forward to future games, always a blast.

It doesn't seem like many people have faith in the space commies.

I guess you could call it weird. They often do pull their weight and I will agree that I pay through the nose for it!

The Railside started out as a Sniperside who has lost his drones and upgrades and is being slowly phased out. Though, sometimes its nice having the 60" range and extra AP1. He will likely turn into another scoring suit.

The tournament was today.

1st round faced a dual Flyrant dual Tervigon and Doom Tyranids list. Siezed the Initiative and he called it at 4 for a Massacre.
2nd round faced a Ethereal Pulsebomb Gunline with Buffmander and Broadsides behind an Aegis. Ended up with another Massacre.
3rd round faced a Venom/Ravager/Allied Eldar DE list and fought for a narrow victory to win the day. Absolutely awesome game.

Didn't get to play against the Grav Spam White Scars list as the DE player pretty much tabled him Round 2. Tie breakers put the DE player against him instead of me.

Gotta try and make the next step HomeSkillet, looks like 1750 on the 17th.

How was Line Breaker scored? From the video batrep it looked like both armies should have scored this bonus.

Greatest number of units in opponents table half. I think he wan 3 to 1 on Linebreaker. He also had the two remaining Warp Spiders in the Woods.

That is how it was for the first three tournament in the escalation. They have changed it to BRB Linebreaker and only worth one Battle Point for this last and the next two. They've also adapted the more recent BAO scoring emphasizing W/L/D with BP as a Tiebreaker.

Congrats on the tourney win! Hope the warmup helped, that was a crazy fun game.

Unfortunately I work the weekend of the next tourney, so I'm out on that one as well.

It definitely did and it was certainly one of the most enjoyable all around 40k game I've had in 6th. And man, it came down to the wire. I'll have to head out towards you for a tournament in Fond du lac or Oshgosh soon.

I thought it was a great report, really went back and forth. I thought eldar was going to win, then a serpent was taken out but then eldar made a good shot but then another serpent fell. I really love those games.

How is the avatar in the eldar list? He didn't do anything in this game but is he normally pretty good? All your troops are on bikes or in serpents so I don't think you really need the avatar. Also I wonder if a single wraithknight would be better than the two lords (though I wouldn't want to spend the money on the knight).

I like the Tau build and it can sure dish out a lot of fire power - very impressive!

The Avatar did what the Avatar does best, he controlled a portion of the board and controls your opponents movement. Actually, all three MCs held the center of the board and forced my army to the outskirts. I couldn't risk CC with any of them. The Wraithlords offered a higher volume of Fire than a single Wraithknight while synergizing with the Serpents for resiliency. They also bring four flame templates and are less likely to get tarpitted. I am usually in favor of a single Wriathknight, but in his application the Wraithlords did quite well. He put six hard targets on the board and I didn't have enough AT to go around, I was stuck effectively elimination one per turn. Then factor in the wicked fast Warp Spiders in my face T1 and he put me on my heels faster than I thought. Next time, I definitely would keep 1st turn. IMO he needs to find the points for Fast Shot on the Avatar, even if it costs him a Shuriken Cannon on a Serpent. In his list the Avatar is quite useful as he isn't springing for a Farseer. The Serpents don't really need the buffs and everything else is BS4. So, instead of Wasting a Farseer in a Serpent or springing for the MantleSeer he brought another synergistic threat to the table. Also, if he runs Iyanden he gains access to a better Warlord Traits table.

I like his list quite a bit and it surprised me with its teeth.

Thanks. I actually find the firepower lower than many other Tau builds especially T1. Where my Tau list differs is with its resilient Fire base and the ability Prioritize Targets. Weakness is definitely the troops, though reserves and Farsight's Through Boldness, Victory helps out alot. FNP Riptides with my tooled out Buff Commander are extremely difficult to kill. I was hoping he would target my HBC Earth Caste Riptide over my IA Riptide. If an opponent targets and wounds a Riptide like he did T1, my Buffmander would usually jump in and Tank everything that comes at him effectively negating much of the damage done. But, in this game the ECPA HBC was just too valuable and needed the Buffs more. The Commander and ECPA Riptide netted two Wave Serpents, The Avatar, a Wraithlord, five Dire Avengers, and a Warp Spider and more importantly too the better half of three turns of shooting. And had I not been an idiot would have Nova Jumped to contest the last objective for the win.

Well, this was only the second time I've ever used the Avatar, so I can't give a good opinion on his awesomeness or failsauce. That being said, he did exactly what I needed him to do in both games I've used him: be an uber-resilient bullet sponge that allowed my squishier units time to maneuver and shoot unmolested. On top of that, the Avatar provides something the Eldar lack in general: a scary cc threat. NOBODY aside from the Abbadons of the world wants to be in close combat with the Avatar. He has too many attacks at too high a weapon skill not to be scared of him, so he provides a nice assault/counter-assault option.

Most people seem to only be advocating for his use as a "fearless bubble", but I think that's honestly the least useful of his abilities.

A single wraithknight may very well be more useful than two Wraithlords, but you nailed the reason why I don't own one right on the head. That's way too much money for me, and I honestly love the Wraithlord models anyway.
