Tail-spinning Tomb Blade Pilot

This weekend was the Gentlemen's GT in Rockford, IL. I was slated as ringer for the event, and I was fortunate enough to have an odd number of folks show up so I could actually get to roll dice. Being ringer I didn't want to take a list that wasn't much fun to face (mass flying creatures, cron air, Eldar/Tau/Taudar....you know, one of those armies.) I decided to bring a variation of a list I play time to time which adds an interesting wrinkle to the game of 40k. I don't have much control over what damage I do to my opponent. Now some folks enjoy fighting this type of list, some were not so fond of it. I find it challenging to play as, and it produces some close games when played right, but I have don't have a drastic amount of control over what I damage in my opponents army.

Heres the list.

Orikan
Immotekh

Chrono-Cryptek
Cryptek w/ transmog. staff (puts you in difficult ground)
Lord w/ weave, mind-schackle, warscythe.
Lord (same)

Ctan w/ writhing worldsape, lord of fire

5 x warriors w/ ghost Ark
5 x warriors w/ ghost ark
5 x warriors
7 x Immortals (gauss)

2 x Ann. Barge
1 Doomsday Ark

That's it.

I don't have an impressive amount of shooting, pretty much 2 x Ann. barges and a doomsday Ark. The ghost arks are good vs. infantry and can strip hull points, but high Toughness or armour saves laugh at the ghost Arks. My strength is sort of melee. I have the Mind Schackle scarabs, but no guarantees they work, especially anything Ld10. Ctan can hold his own in some melees, dominate against week troops, but doesn't stand up to a drastic amount of dedicated melee units, and is susceptible to the mass S6/7 shooting. Orikan has the same statline in melee, but only during his Ctan transformation, which I also have limited control over. The games should be fun to sort of watch unfold, and I hope I can guess correctly whats going to get zapped with lightning, while planning movement, reserves, etc.

I think I will do ok at fighting Eldar as long as they don't have Wraithknights. Lots of Helldrakes could be tolerable if my ghost Arks hold. Mass flying deamons and Tyranids would be awful matchups, as well as Paladin based GK. Marines would depend on the build. A standard Necron army (fliers/wraiths/Ann. Barges) would be probably worst possible match up. Why am I playing this crazy army again?? Hopefully Ill have some fun.....oh yeah, that's why.

Sorry no pictures folks. My dot matrix printer type descriptions will be all you have to go by on these reports......so enjoy...

Note on Missions. Primary is worth 5 pts. 2ndry mission was worth 4 pts. Tertiary was worth 3 pts. Whoever scored more, won. You could draw one of the tiers, and then no-one got the points. This way winning Primary wasn't everything, but it would help to winning your game.

Rnd 1. Primary- Emporers will (objective in each deployment zone). 2ndry Have monstrous creature/walker/ or independent character in enemy deployment zone when game ends. Terrtiary- score more Linebreaker/first blood/ slay warlord points than opponent. Deployment- Vanguard Strike (you know, the criss-crossy one.)

Opponent- Tyranids. Son of a......Well should be interesting to play, as well as challenging. As long as my opponent isn't a tool it should be a fun game. (Note, Jeff was a lot of fun to play against so it was fun ((Gasp))).

His List
Flyrant w/ H. Commander, Devourers. (gets Iron Arm and Hemorage)
Flyrant w/ lash whip/devourers (Gets Endurance, Lefe leech)

Trygon
Trygon
2 x Biovores

2 x H. Guard
Zoey (kept shooty powers)
Zoey (kept shooty powers)

10 Dev. Gaunts
15 Gaunts
Tervigon (Endurance, Warp Speed).

20 Gargoyles w/ poison
Jeez, he got Endurance and Iron Arm for all his Psychic bugs, which by the way is not good when you have to solve most of your problems with guass weapons. Also, Iron Arm on his Warlord........Aye-Aye-Aye. That's going to be a problem.

I win the roll off and have my opponent go first. I also inform him I can seize on a 4+, and w/ Orikan and the Ctan the entire board is difficult AND dangerouson turn 1. Also, anything that would have had to make a dangerous test already fails on a 1 or a 2. I had no intention of seizing, but my opponent doesn't know that.

While he is busy deploying I pace back and forth frantically slapping my self in the face, clapping my hands, chanting pump up phrases. I visualize the prize, my army and I become drift compatible, only a matter of time before we tabulate results and I am the winner and BOOM!! instant erection.

The board has a fairly large piece of LOS terrain in the center with some scattered area terrain around the edges that has some LOS blocking capabilities, but not too much. Now this doesn't matter much when you are fighting an army of Dinosaurs, but for those of you who want to paint a picture of the board in your mind.....you are welcome! We place our objectves in almost opposite corners.

He puts a wall of Garoyles out front strung wide. One Trygon and a Flyrant on one side of the gargoyle conga line, the other flyrant anf H. guard have the opposite flank. A zoey goes on each side as well. The Tervigon is in the center behind the flying little bugs. In the far back corner are the Biovores and 15 gaunts holding the objective. Devil gaunts outflank, trygon is deepstriking.

I deploy my Ann. barges over 30" from his H guard, but within 30" of a zoey. (Hoping for first blood....at least its something.) Ghost Arks Sit in the far corner, waiting for the inevitable monsters showing up to this party uninvited. Doomsday Ark didn't have much to do until the sun comes out. I line up a shot at the biovores/ gaunts on the objective, but that type of thinking is fairly optimistic as the flyrants will be bullying my army from turn 2 forward Im guessing. Orikan, Immotekh and the Immortals hang with the Ann. barges and the Ctan. So look out T8 or 9 flying kaiju, you got 9 robots and a star god to get through. I have 5 warriors w/ a lord attached in reserve......back up (as if Ill need it).

Turn 1. Gargoyles are apprehensive of charging forward with all the Orikan nonsense so they pack their wings away and waddle forward like akward geese, and 3 manage to kill themselves with DT tests. Warlord goes T7 and flies up behind LOS terrain. He perils himself (oh yeahhhhh!!) The other Flyrant endurances the H guard and jumps near his flying buddy. The Zoeys and Hguard walk forward and don't take any wounds.

My 1. OK. Cant shoot the flyrants, and in order to get the shot to kill the Zoey, I need to kind of expose my self with the Ann. barges to the flyrants. Not ideal, but Ill bring up my Deathstar (Immotekh) and my Ctan to capitalize if he tries anything funny with my barge. I start my lightning zapping using my re-roll to try to get first blood from the other Zoey. My lightning does a single wound to the Trygon. Nothing else. I fire my Ann. barge at a Zoey and kill it with a single volley. (Ka-ching!) Other barge gets me a wound on the H guard. Ok, that's all I really have.

Turn 2. Devil gaunts stay in reserve but Trygon pops up right in front of my army. Hey whats up buddy, I was hoping you were going to be a little later, but whatever man, make yourself at home right next to my army. Warlord casts Iron Arm on himself and gets T9. Oh, what was that.....oh T9, great....almost nothing in my army has a chance to damage you, ok, just checking. Oh you want to land next to the Trygon 6" in front of my army, be my guest. The other Flyrant Casts FnP on the Warlord. The Tervigon Casts FnP on that Flyrant and HE jumps in front of my army as well. Gargoyles decide they want to risk not jumping, but waddling again. Jeff rolls and kills 8 Gargoyles. We have a good laugh. (Secretly I was laughing because I was nervous about the monsters about to rip through my whole army.) His H. guard pen an Ann. barge, but fail to destroy it. Flyrant w/ endurance charges it and blows it sky high. (Great!) Other Flyrant fails to charge the Ghost Ark. Now if only I had 2 trees tied together that would smash together to get through his T9. Unfortunately I was all out of Ewok workers so I couldn't really capitalize much on his being on the ground. Things got better for me though as he rolls his it will not die, and gets his wound back.

Bottom 2. Ok, its going to take my whole army to deal with these 3 bugs. I need to get at his objective and the only thing I have at my disposal is 5 warriors and a lord who come out of reserves. So goys, you need to kill the Trygon, a Zoey, get to the gaunts, dodge the Biovore fire, and take that objective. Got it.....good. Ok one problem totally handled, just the three giant monsters all bufeed up and this games a wrap. I try to get the "stars to align" for Orikan (get a Ctan statline) but he says no. Ok, OK Orikan, I though I could use you against all these monsters, but you got your own agenda, so I got faith in ya buddy. I look down my bench and there is the Ctan. Ctan Im going to eed you to go Toe to Toe with one of those monsters. yes, you will probably be ripped to shreds, but don't worry, you got a bunch of gauss armed robots for back up. Ctan hits Flyrant and does a wound, but takes one as well. I try my lightning zaps and only manage to put another wound on the Trygon that started the game on the board (so he has 2 now). I fire the Doomsday Ark on the Trygon and manage a wound.....(Kaching!) I get one unit of 5 warriors and a mind schackle lord to charge the Flyrant. I then realize why the hell would I feed him that unit. Now the gamble would be to tie him up, but making him charge me does the same thing. So I sit 6" away. The rest of my entire army pours shots into the Trygon in my face and I manage wound number 2...(a double kaching!) I don't want those poison Gargoyles to come bail out that flyrant with the Ctan so I drop the cryptek blast weapon that's puts them in dangerous again.

Top 3. Gargoyles try waddling forward again and 4 more die!! Ha, see Ctan...I got your back. Warlord gets T9 again!. He shoots devourers at the warrior/lord unit and kills all but 1 warrior. Lord does not get back up. The Hguard get endurance fro the Tervigon and blow away my other Ann Barge. Hmm, not what I was hoping for. The trygon charges the Ctan. I should of at this point challenged the Flyrant so the Trygon couldn't swing on me, but I didn't think of it at the time. I get lucky though as both monsters manage only 1 wound total. I do no wounds in return though. Cmon buddy Im counting on you to just kill like 2-3 giant monsters that have the same statline.....what the heck! Warlord charges and kills lone warrior. His other Trygon moves up to bully me warriors and lord who recently arrived further down the line towards his army. H guard regen their wound. (What the heck....it will not die never does this crap for me!)

Bottom 3. Lord and warriors........If anyone has ever seen the Life Aquatic with Steve Zousou, and I that movie there is a room full of 15 or so guys firing fully automatic weapons at full tilt.......the camera pans over to Bill Murray who pulls out a pistol and starts firing while charging into the room....that's kind of how this little squad felt. They barrel into the Trygon and between Mind Schackle and the W. Scythe I put 2 more wounds on him!!. Orikan......baby.....work with me here....I gotta send my deathstar into that Trygon to bail out my Ctan......I need you. He reluctantly transforms. I send in the Deathstar and put 3 wounds on the big bug. just one more to go. Ctan and Flyrant stay locked and I take no damage, and I put 2 on the Flyrant. My lightning zaps the H guard and kills the whole unit, just like I drew it up on the chalkboard.

Top 4. Night fight ends. Gargoyles come in to bail out the Trygon locked up with the warriors/lord. Tervigon is now close to my lines and he starts spawning. he gets only 7 gaunts and is still fertile. The Warlord gets Iron arm, but just a mere T7 this turn. he barrels into the big scrum in the middle. Orikan is the closest model, so all wounds are going on him. I take just one wound. Its up to Immotekh to handle the Big Trygon, and he succeeds, putting the last wound on him and killing it. Orikan also manages to wound his warlord. Ctan and other Flyrant in the challenge do no wounds to each other. My mindschackle plus warscythe kill the other Trygon. Gargoyles kill 3 warriors and we get all locked up. At this point he has 3 more gargoyles but ......uh-ohhh.....2 warriors got back up....and they.....are ......ticked. (Sorry for the language)!

Btm 4. Ghost Ark starts coming around the central building towards the last zoey near the gargoyle fight. I start shooting devil gaunsts and kill 2. The gargoyle fight is a slap fight and one gargoyle lives and stays locked thanks to the Zoey hanging out nearby. I start firing the Doomsday Ark at the far gaunts holding the objective and manage to kill 3 or 4. Zoey keeps them safe as well. My other scoring unit needs to go for linebreaker, and hey! they might just do the heroic thing and lead the Tervigon away from my deployment zone....they might even get linebreaker. their ghost Ark starts moving with blinding speed, sliding 18" total (including flat out) along my short table edge towards the corner. Orikan goes back to being the regular joe schmoe. he manages to make his 3 phase shifter saves against the Warlord flyrant. Ctan and other flyrant do no wounds to each other. What the heck guys.

top 5. His lone gargoyle breaks and my warriors and lord are free. His zoey tries to S10 lance ny ghost Ark, but I deny the Witch......just like I drew it up on the chalkboard. The Ctan fight ends as the Ctan breaks the flyrant over his knee killing the damn thing. Orikan survives more blows from the warlord flyrant. his Tervigon has her final litter, but its a big one spawning 16 gaunts.

Btm 5. I have no units on my objective and I need this game to go to turn 6 to have a chance of winning. I have Terrtiary If I can keep Imotekh alive AND score linebreaker. If I kill this last big bug, we draw secondary. I just need to kill his big bug and have the Immortals lazily stroll over to my objective, or kill some gaunts out of LOS. I fire the Doomsday Ark at the Biovores hoping for a scatter but no luck. The Ctan is free and now sets his sights on the last flyrant. He tells the other robots to take a break, and challenges the Warlord to combat. He takes a wound, but causes a wound. My ghost ark full of troops moves and disembarks its cargo of warriors. They start snapping and whistling to get the Tervigons attention, hopefully getting him to give chase and clear out of my deployment zone. The warriors and Lord charge the last Zoey and kill the thing. My ghost ark fires a full broadside into the devil gaunts killing all but 2. This game is looking really bad for my opponent if it goes on to 6. As it stands though he would get primary and secondary, I would only have tertiary.

We roll to see if it ends and..........."2" game over. I scream at the heavens !!!!! Very similar to John Candy being pulled on water skis by Dan Akroyd in the Great outdoors.

Actually, my opponent and I had a blast and it was a fun game win or lose. Had the gone game on I might have pulled it out, but it wasn't meant to be. I move on to my next game.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm in your 1st report? Haha....

Great job on your "almost-win". Necrons in the hands of a capable general can buck the odds and even beat those which they normally shouldn't be able to.

Round 2.

Now bit of a disclaimer, I decided to "split" a pitcher of beer at lunchtime, so by split, I mean poured one for Shawn, then drank the rest. Some of the details may be lost as I needed about three trips to the restroom to "comb my hair".

Mission 2.
Primary- complicated vp per table quarter, one of the units had to be scoring, anything could contest....didn't read that closely because I LOATHE 4th edition VP per table quarter missions in any tournament, but hey that's the hand your dealt.
2ndry- Kill most exspensive unit.
Tertiary- Get more (first blood, slay warlord, linebreaker) points.

Deployment- 5th edition Table quarters deployment (no one deploys within 12" of the center of the board.

Opponent's list

Chaos Lord on Jugg. w/ axe of blinding fury.
15 x Berzerkers (fist, banner to help charge distance)
Maulerfiend
Defiler
Forgefiend
10 warriors in Rhino (plasma/lascannon)
20 cultists
10 raptors (Lightning claws on sarge., 2 melta guns?....all MOK)

Hmmmmm seems light on points, but that's all I can remember.

We roll off and my opponent wants first turn. I try to give all my special rules but my opponent shushes me Dr. Evil style, and sort of says, let me know as the rules pop up. OK fair enough.

Table has Hiils in opposite corners. Each deployment zone has shrines of Aquillas....(the 12" tall building corner section). There was a large circular ruins piece in the middle that you could see through. Area terrain scattered about.

My opponent has the Defiler and Forgefiend on each end of the Shrine of Aquila. Maulerfiend and raptors hide behind the wall. Zerks and Lord start front and center. Rhino goes near the defiler, and the cultists hunker behind some terrain out of LOS. Looks like opponents strategy is "get 'em".

I deploy the Doomsday Ark behind the ruins so I could at least see the units coming at me, but with nightfight and some ruins, I knew damage output would be limited. Arks milled about nearby. Deathstar and Ctan hid behind a hill. NOTE: The Ctan was my most exspensive unit, and his were the BERZERKERS! Ann. Barges set up opposite rhino for a chance at first blood.

Top 1. Nothing moves due to Orikan madness. Forgefiend takes some pot shots but manages nothing.

Bottom 1. I move my Ann. barges closer, but don't have much of a shot myself. Lightning does 3 glances to a defiler.

Well this game is awfully dull so far.

Top 2. Zerks move forward and raptors jump out. Maulerfiend comes barreling out from behind cover and stands behind a hill near my 2 Ann. barges. His rhino moves up nearby and pops smoke. Forgefiend takes some more shots at an Ann. barge, but does no damage thanks to cover + nightfight.

Btm 2. Ok, going to go for first blood. If I do, that Maulerfiend will come screeming at me, probably kill one of my Ann. barges. I get my 5 warriors + lord out of reserve and they come in near the 2 Ann. barges. Ok now I have back up....who cares about the mechanical demon bearing down on my army. I sling the Ann. barges forward but the rhino smoke stops most my damage and I get 1 glance. (gulp)! OK....now Im giving my opponent first blood. Well that was just silly of me. I try to put the zerks in difficult/dangerous terrain but the shot scatters on the raptors. Doomsday ark does the same but the shot scatters harmlessly away. Lightning kills 3 cultists. Ctan and deathstar mingle forward at a leasurly stroll behind the Ghost Arks in case those berzerkers break loose.

Top 3. Chaos warriors move out of the rhino and shoot up my 5 man warrior unit. After all reanimation protocols rolls only 2 warriors stay down. Maulerfiend does the robot chicken robot on my Ann. barge and blows it sky high. Zerks and lord run forward and are now getting a little dangerous. Forgefiend pens a ghost ark, but no only knocks a weapon off. Pfft. see ya gauss aray on the back side.

Btm 3. Lightning kills the rhino (thanks lightning, a little late). Orikan decides to go into psycho mode. The berzerkers will be here next turn so I move a ghost Ark 12" away and unload with everything in my army. I kill 5 berzerkers. I charge the maulerfiend with 3 warriors and the lord figuring he cant kill all of us, and my warscythe should at least be a threat. I pen. him once and he deamon saves it. Oh Jeez. He kills 2 warriors......Oh Jeez........I roll boxcars for morale.......OH JEEZ........he sweeps my unit so no reanimation or everliving..........oh jeez. Well, by god, Im a murderer. I threw those poor robots lives away and gave the maulerfiend some extra movement. Nice plan.

Top 4. Lord breaks from the zerks and lines up a charge with my deathstar. Berzerkers try to charge a ghost ark and fail the charge despite re-rolls with their banner. Maulerfiend charges another ghost ark and I glance him w/ overwatch from the unit on board, but alas, another fine piece of machinery is violated by a lash tendril. The lord and Orikan go at it and I manage 2 wounds to him, and he manages 2 to Orikan. Forgefiend and chaos warriors manage 3 pens on the other Ann. barge, but he jinks all three.

Btm 4. Orikan has had enough and transforms back to normal, thus dying and doesn't reanimate. Ctan goes for the charge against the Berzerkers standing in the middle of nowhere, but he fails the 6" charge. The rest of my guns unload on those berzerkers, and I drop 5 more, leaving 5 left. In melee Immotekh takes the axe of Blind fury to the face and takes 2 wounds, but gives one back. Ann. barge shoots and glances the defiler, wrecking it. OK. Lightning zaps the maulerfiend, and immobilizes the thing. (Schwew!!. just like I planned it).

Top 5. Berzerkers charge the Immortals standing around watching Immotekh and a Lord go at it, and the Berzerkers kill 4 Immortals, and the cryptek. Immotekh survives the axe, and kills the lord........hussah!. The unit is then swept killing him and his whole squad. Well that was anti climactic. The berzerkers only get a 1" consolidate, and they are sitting right in front of the Doomsday Ark. Raptors charge into the Ctan and put 3 wounds on him!!! Ahhhh....you guys know you need 6's to wound right? Ctan does 1 in return. Well what the heck Ctan. You can trash giant flying tyranids like they're going out of style, but 10 raptors give you trouble! Despite Lascannon and Plasma gun to the rear, Ann. barge jinks to see another day.

Btm 5. Doomsday Ark fires and kills 4 berzerkers. My other lord + 5 warriors charges his Zerker champion and forces him to punch himself in the face, killing him. Doomsday Ark, not only killed 4 Berzerkers, but the side guns glanced and wrecked the Maulerfiend. Ctan kills 3 raptors.....dies.....explodes.....and kills 2 more raptors.

Right now my opponent has primary, no one will get secondary, and my opponent has tertiary (first blood!!!).

We roll to see if the game goes on and it does.

Top 6. Ann. barge jinks 2 more pens from the maulerfiend and lascannon. I was so proud of that little guy. The raptors charge my warrior unit and the lord challenges his sarge. Sarge proceeds to lightning claw himself. A few warriors die, but I hold

Btm 6. Ghost Ark with 5 warriors finally gets a shot on his hiding cultists and I kill 5 or 6. My Ann. barge has been fairly resilient, but not done much damage. I back up and fire on the Chaos warriors and ZZZZZaaaaaaapppppppp, I force 11 armour saves and kill 5 warriors. They dont break though. mind schackle scarabs + warscythe cuts down the last couple raptors giving me a table quarter. I don't have linebreaker yet, so my opponent would ave tertiary at this point, and the rest is a draw.

We roll and the game goes on. Thank you star gods....well shards of star gods....that I guess I have caged into various tesseract labrynths....anyway, I needed that.

Top 7. Shooting does nothing to my little Ann. barge. Not much lese for my opponent. He is down to a forgefiend, 5 warriors, and 8-10 cultists.

Btm. 7. Ann barge moves into my enemy deployment zone to get linebreaker (this is due to scenario rules, so relax internet). I unload on the cultists. If I can break the unit I will have primary. I fire the Ghost Ark, Ann. barge, 5 warriors, and I kill 1. The game ends.

Primary - Draw , 1-1
2ndry Draw...we each killed the others most exspensive unit
Terrtiary- draw he had first blood, I had linebreaker.

Well what the heck do we do now. Shake hands and laugh at the carnage, because that's all you can do at that point. That little Ann. barge was a real hero. Also, the lord w/ mindschackle scarabs was a real hero as well. That's 2 games now 1 unit has really saved my bacon.

Well now Im done kissing my sister (draw) so on to game 3. When I see the mission to what Im facing I can tell it isn't going to be pretty, for me at least.

Game 3.

Mission
Primary- Kill all troops
2ndry- Scouring
Terrtiary- Score more first blood, slay the warlord, linebreaker....

Opponent's List-

Typhus..... Powers- Plague wind, weapon virus
Nurgle Scorcerer (planaquin, burning brand flamer, 3 powers) Powers- Gift of Contagion, weapon virus, Psy. Schreik
35 Zombies
35 Zombies
35 Zombies
2 x Helldrakes
3 x N. Oblitz
3 x N. Oblitz

Well Im supposed to kill all troops, but I just don't see that happening. This means in order to draw, I need to keep a troop unit alive. Im going to have to do this anyway if I want to win 2ndry. I only have the Ctan who can deal with Typhus, maybe mindschackle scarabs if Im lucky. The Ann. barges are the only things with a prayer against the Helldrakes , or roughly 144 gauss shots. Oblits are also an issue. My only real plan is to survive his big ticket items (Oblits, typhus, Helldrakes) and hope when the smoke clears Im on top.

The table has a 6" x 6" building in the center about 4" tall. There are 2 hills in each deployment zone which actually help my opponent. He gets LOS cover, and doesn't have to take dangerous to walk through it. A few pieces of area terrain scattered about as well. We place our objectives, 2 in each deployment zone, 2 in no mans land. Dawn of War deployment.

Tom wins the roll off and chooses to go first. He puts one Zombie mob against a board edge. Typhus and the Oblits stand on their flank. The other board edge has 2 Zombie mobs, with the Sorcerer and Oblits behind the inner most zombie mob. Drakes go in reserve.

I deploy almost everything against the lone zombie mob. I figure I will throw everything at it to try and kill it. Then my army will have to throw everything they have at the Typhus ball to kill that. If that all happens hopefully his slow moving army wont be able to get to any of the objectives on that ENTIRE half of the table. I deploy a lone Ghost Ark against his main horde to keep him honest.

We roll objectives and his deployment zone has the "1" and "2" and the "4" is on his side of the building in the center. I have a "2" and "3" in my deployment zone, and a "3" in my half of no mans land. Well at least I will force him to move that horde at me. If I would hae had to come at him, it would have been really ugly. It was ugly enough as it was.

Immotekh seizes....on a "6" so he earned it. My barges advance and the whole army fires on the zombie horde near Typhus killing 10 or so. I re-roll lightning and it strikes the same unit killing 3 more. My turn is done.

Oblits move up and pen./immobilize an Annhilation barge. Center Zombie horde moves up and only 2 die from the 35 models. His weakend zombie horde shuffles to hide, but 3 more die.

Top 2. Reserves come in, and I have them hide behind a hill near my lonely ghost ark. I spread out and have the 2+ lord out front in case a Drake gets feisty. My army unloads on the zombie ball again and I kill a dismall 6 or so. Ctan advances to Typhus and his Oblit gang. Hopefully he doesn't take assault cannons to the face.

Btm 2. Drake comes in and goes after a ghost Ark for hull points, but does nothing. Flamethrower hits my "deathstar" unit, but Orikan is the first in line and makes his Phase Shifter rolls like a champ. Nice job Orikan. 3 Man oblits w/ Typhus unload on the weakend Ann. barge, but just glance it once. Zombie horde on the other side of the board is moving right at me now. They are half way across the board.

Top 3. I want to kill that Zombie horde, but I need to deal with that drake. I fire an Ann. barge.....pen.......but he deamon saves it. Lightning zaps the small zombie horde killing a handful. Ctan fails to make 7" charge on Typhus and the Oblits. Darn it Ctan......Do you realize how important first blood is??

Btm 3. The other drake is in. Ok.....now we have problems. They will be vector striking....burning.....killing everything in site. Newly arrived drake goes after my troops in the open with the 2+ lord. I allocate first wound to lord and "1"...dead.....uhhh-ohh. 4 more warriors go down. I reanimate 1. Hmmmm.....so much for operation 2+. The other Drake flies over the deathstar dropping 3 random Immortals, but his flames are thwarted by Immotekh at the other end of the line. Well at least that 2+ operation was a success. Oblits blow my wounded Ann. barge sky high. (So much for First blood.) The other Zombie mobs press forward. Ok Ghost Ark....its up to you to deal with 70 zombies, and oblits, and the sorcerer.

Rest to follow later................

I think you won game 2. Doesn't Imotekh give VPs for killing a character?

Well Immotekh, you are almost correct. That is a hidden little rule most folks forget, but Immotekh does D3 extra wounds towards figuring combat resolution if he slays a character. The killing of a character doesn't do D3 victory points. As it was that melee I think I boxcarred the roll so the extra wounds didn't help much.

Battle report 3 continued.

Sorry for the delay, had an unfortunate issue arrise during the middle of my last battle and wasnt really in the mood the last few days to complete the 3rd battle report. In case you missed it (and you dont want to read just a couple entries up above,) heres what you missed.

Kitchen Scene with Immotekh and his wife:
Immotekhs wife: "Immotekh......Im pregnant......with Orikans baby!!!"

C'tan driving bright red corvette with the top down speeding down a curvy highway. In hot pursuit is Typhus driving his black convertable Mustang. The two cars weave in and out of oncoming traffic. Suddenly the Ctan near misses a produce truck and it turns over. Typhus is forced off the road and crashes his corvette over the edge of the road into the valley below exploding the car. Ctan hits the breaks and looks backwards and says...."watch out for that worldscape.....its writhing." Ctan puts on shades and cue CSI: Miami opening intro........

On to top of Turn 4.

Top4. At this point I dont have much to hold up the zombie horde that is sitting on the 4 point objective. I also dont have much on that flank that can deal with a Helldrake. I take some pot shots with the Ghost Ark at the Helldrake, but no damage. The Ctan meanwhile gets the charge off against Typhus and the Oblits....I smash.....and do no wounds. Typhus wounds the Ctan, but luckily his Eternal Warrior keeps him from getting sawed in two. The nightfight also ends this turn. I fire everything else from the flank with Immotekh into the small zombie horde and wipe it entirely out.

Btm 4. Zombies are crushing forward on my weak flank. Soon they will be on my objective in my deployment zone, and that will be the game. Helldrake finishes off my lone two warriors out of the Ghost Ark. Oblits with the sorcerer unload Multimeltas into the ghost Ark, but either they didnt pen. or I made the jinks. The other Helldrake tries burning towards Immotekh, but does no damage as Immotekh is making saves like a champ. Ctan gets 2 smash wounds on Typhus killing him. Oblits hold.

Top 5. I have to do something on my weak flank NOW, or this game is over. I decide to get the 5 warriors and their 2+ lord out of the ghost Ark and they charge the giant zombie horde holding the 4 point objective. The warriors wade in and the zombies swing first. They do 4 wounds. I put the first one on a warrior....dead.....next on the lord to soak up some wounds......1......dead......then lose one more warrior. Yikes, not what I wanted. I do 2 wounds in return, make morale, and 2 wariors stand up. I really wanted the Lord, but hey at least I have some bodies to absorb zombie damage. The Ctan kills 2 Oblits in melee and breaks the last, but I fail to catch him. My Ann. barge fires on the rear of the Helldrake and I wreck the thing. Yahoo! I hate those things. My troops start spreading out in the flank I am dominating. As long as my warriors hold out that are knee deep in zombies, I might pull this out.

Btm 5. The last HElldrake flies over an tries killing a troop unit on an objective. 1 warrior is not quite killed, and it allows the cryptek and 2 warriors to get back up. Oblits fire meltas into the Ghost Ark and it lives again!!. THey charge it but fail te 4" charge. That Ghost Ark is a hero. My warriors keep up the good fight losing a robor, but they take down 3/4 zombies. More importantly the zombies are having to pile in 6" every turn we are in melee pulling them further and further from the 4 pt. objective. Lone Oblit rallies and hits the Ann. barge with a snap melta shot. The barge jinks (my jink saves have been awesome as opposed to my 2+ lord saves which are 0/2).

We roll to see if the game ends, and it does not.

Top 6. Warriors get joined by Orikan so he can soak up Hellfire. Immotekh and his gang grab another objective giving me 5 objective points. My warriors fighting zombies lose 1 more robot but keep in the fight. Ctan kills the lone oblit. and scurries into zombie deployment zone for linebreaker.

Btm 6. Oblits finally finish off the ghost Ark. The explosion kills 3 or 4 zombies. Helldrake fires at a warrior squad, but Orikan soaks up the damage with his phase shifter. The last of my warriors fighting 20+ zombies goes down, but the zombies cant get enough consolidation to get back to the 4 point objective. They settle on the 3 pt. objective in my deployment zone giving the Chaos team 5 points of objectives as well.

We roll to see if the game ends....and it does.

So Primary - Kill all troops. Neither of us accomplished this.
2ndry- Scouring- We tie 5-5 Neither of us get this.
Tertiary- Score more points Opponent has First blood and line breaker- I have Slay the warlord and linebreaker. Tie.

So another kissing your sister round. A straight draw down the middle. I was a bit bummed, but happy to withstand the zombie horde, that I really didnt have the tools to kill. The Ctan came up big this game slaughtering Typhus and the Oblits and giving me linebreaker. A good game that was fun and challenging.
