I am starting a cron army to learn some tactics and learn their strengths/weaknesses to counter them in the future.

Well, Night Scythes and ABs are fine. However, I prefer 10 men units (Warriors, Immortals) in Night Scythes since they have a larger impact and last longer. Scarabs can be hard to pull off. I'd replace the lumbering Overlord with a DLord.

The advantage of Immortals over Warriors shows itself very early. 3+ save versus bolter AP4 gives them a chance. 4+ save versus bolter AP4 is just death. STR 5 shots versus STR 4 shots? AP 4 shots versus AP 5 shots? It's a no-brainer for me to choose between 3 groups of 5 Immortals each and 2 groups of 10 Warriors each.

For starters, tesla weapons are AP - so whatever your firing at still gets that armour save so a part of your argument is irrelevant considering everything is using tesla.
And the small numbers you have the immortals in will become very apparent when they get hit with a blast weapon, or when just a couple get lost and you have to start making moral checks.
Maybe drop the Scarabs and use the points to add 2 immortals to each squad!?

ok, I'll take the gauss then. I didn't want to use it because of the OPness of it. I mean, a little puny warrior squad can glance your land raider to death!!!

That it can lol
Maybe just take one or 2 squads of gauss. With the tesla carbine being S5 it can still wreck most things with just pure volume of fire from side or rear, and when dropping then out of the Night scythe there's almost no reason they won't be going to hit that.
If you're worried about Armour you could always fun a couple destruc-teks or storm-teks in place of the scarabs or beefing up the squads.

After bearing in mind some comments from this thread and experimental crons part 1 this is my new list.
HQ
Destroyer Lord res orb mindshackle scarabs 2+ armour
Troops
7 immortals w/ tesla carbines - night scythe
7 immortals w/ gauss blasters - night scythe
7 immortals w/ tesla carbines - night scythe
Heavy support

Don't have codex with me at the moment but is their an option to put gauss cannons on my AB's instead of the tesla cannons?

Yes there is.
And no it's not worth it.
A good amount of time you want to be moving enough to get the jink, and would you rather fire a gauss or tesla weapon on snap?
