Why has Wizards of the Coast not made a Magic the Gathering skirmish game? That would be awesome..anyway we can let them know there is a demand for that?

For the same reason we still don't have a good digital version of the game; they're afraid of cutting into their own profits.

EDIT: Also why GW probably cut back on specialist games.

Because it wouldn't be "Magic the Gathering" and the miniatures market is not something that Wizards really wishes to pursue. They've shutdown their miniature production lines, and focus on books and cards for the most part.

Also to fully capture the feeling of Magic in a game you'd have to change a lot of stuff around.

Almost my entire gaming group said they would drop GW and PP for a Wizards skirmish game on day 1. None of us play magic.

They did make a thing call DnD Miniatures, there was Chainmail, and before they dropped their minis lines they had Dungeon Command (rules are available for free on Wizards' site). They've done it, it's not been popular enough, and they've scrapped it. Also your gaming group isn't indicative of the gaming world at large. I'd probably not pick up a Wizards game because I played DnD Miniatures, and it was something I didn't really enjoy. They make good games with Magic and DnD (although I dislike 4th edition), I don't want them to step foot in the miniatures business (again).

It wouldn't work. Plain and simple. The people that play magic like card games, and probably don't like miniatures games. They have carved out their own, smelly, little niche of customers.

I think it would be cool too, but too tough to pull off. There's a bajillion monsters and things that would be figures, how do you pick which ones to make without every fanboy crying about not getting the favorite card in mini form?

I'm gonna make an army of Thallids, lead by their king, Caesar Thallid!

I ike the idea(my kill everything Vampire Deck in mini form ) but as has been said before it would be hard to do. After all, there are a hell of a lot of creatures out there. And then there are all the rules (Lifelink, +x/+x counters etc)

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

The last skirmish game made by WOTC was Heroscape. And, saying this as a Wizards fanboy, they completely ruined it.

You guys are thinking about this all wrong. Turn your useless mtg cards into papercraft!

Use land cards as actual terrain. Each player takes turn placing their land cards into binder sleeves (3x3) times 4 quadrants. The land type should give bonus to creatures of the mana color produced.

Then roll to see who deploys first. Creatures with unblockable are treated as infiltrating. Creatures with haste are treated as having outflanking. Death touch=instant death. Life link = fnp, regenerate, persist, undying = it will not die.

Creatures and equipment, enchantments use their converted mana cost as their points cost. Before game is played each player must agree on how many points to play with. Also i think equipment should cost there cmc+equip cost all divided by 2 rounded up to make it fair.

Stack creature cards on land to make any number of a single squad for example, 19 raging goblins + goblin warchief on a mountain.

This format would disallow play of instants, sorcery and plainswalkers.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok i just play tested the game and realized that complicated cards break the game.

Therefore only vanilla creatures or basic key word abilities such as flying, trample, haste, first strike, double strike, defender, vigilnce, life link, reach, shroud, hexproof, indestructible, death touch are allowed in the game. Unblock able is not allowed but land walk is. Creatures with flying and land walk can fly over or hide in an enemy occupied square. For example, mountain walk creatures can hide in mountains and not have to fight or be attacked.

Also no complicated spells are allowed. Only 1 sentance spell mostly such as giant growth, lightning bolt, unsummon, terror.

Only basic equipment that confer p/t and basic key word bonuses are allowed. Also only simple artifacts and enchantments such as honor of the pure or asylum work to benefit creatures in that square and adjacent squares only.
