Barrage weapons hit the models closest to the hole of the template. So, if you place it on a model's head you want dead, and roll a hit, every wound inflicted under the template starts out on the model under (or closest to) the hole.

It is one of the best ways in the game of removing models from a unit if totally unrealistic, hahaha, sniper howitzer, engage!

It is using barrage weapons to get around bullet sponges in the unit.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Frankly, its a slowed rule, and regardless of my own use of units with barrage, I always suggest house-ruling it to be wounds anywhere in the unit taking damage before a game. Not many people agree, though.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

What about look out sir though? Especially if its an IC type of HQ, which the screamer star uses through the heralds, wouldn't your opponent just pass everything off on a 2+? Those pie plates only cause so many wpunds, it would be easy to make that many 2+ saves. Then you have to through invulns, FNP, etc etc etc.

While useful, its not totally reliable.

A lot of things you want to snipe out (heavy weapons, especially) are NOT characters, though. Plus, if you have a S8 barrage weapon against most things (or S6 v T3) they only need to fail once and then that's that.

Are heralds independent characters?

because otherwise a 4+ to LOS isnt something to count on

Yes, heralds are independent characters, the whole unit of a screamer star usually has at least a ++4 invul re-rolling 1s.

If you go first, though, it's open season. Besides, the guy holding the Grimoire only gets a 4++, and he's the one you really need to focus on.
