Subject: Rob Ford Crack Cocaine Video in Police Possession - update- ford admits to smoking crack cocaine
How good is this guy at mayoring, btw? Because personally I wouldn't care if my mayor was doing shots of Liquid Plumbr, if he or she was a good mayor. I obviously don't live in Toronto so I have no idea how he is at his non-crack-smoking activities.

In my office we send each other pictures of him being/looking ridiculous.
My favourite is of him playing football and failing.
On a serious note: he really isn't thatttttttt bad of a mayor - he just doesn't take criticism or advise that conflicts with his unwavering opinions. This isn't always a bad thing as he stands firm behind his beliefs rather than dancing back and forth on topics. Oh and he reallllly wants Toronto to expand its subway system.

Fiscally he's done Toronto taxpayers justice and finally brought city council back to it's real job of delivering responsible services to Torontonians at a reasonable cost, rather than just bilking the public for every penny like the Millerites had done for years.
He finally negotiated fair and reasonable contracts with the CUPE unions without a garbage strike. ($100 million in savings to taxpayers over 4 years)
He privatised garbage collection for roughly half the city ($80 million'ish in savings over 7 years)
He downsized councillor's personal budgets
Brought down his own mayoral office's budget
Property Tax hikes of 0% (2011), just over 2% (2012) and 2% (2012), which is below the average of 3%/year elsewhere.
Canned the $60 vehicle registration fee.
It's simply a shame that he's so damn self destructive and acts like a complete fool all the time as all it's going to do is overshadow all the good things he's done for taxpayers.
Unfortunately, because his antics keep continuing and he makes such piss-poor decisions in the company he keeps, it's more than likely that this will tar all fiscal conservatives with the same brush, and thus leave the door open for the loony leftists on council to break open the doors to the money trough and put the gravy-train of personal over-indulgence back on it's tracks.

I have to admit, I'm kind of surprised at how big of a deal this is becoming. CNN has it on the huge font on their front page. I guess I never realized that this was a big deal.
Seems a shame because it appears, at least according to the posters here, that he isn't doing that bad of a job.

That's not saying much, Toronto's previous mayor's have helped collectively set the bar pretty low.. but more like furniture salesman low though, not like crack smoking low.

Toronto & area is a really weird place honestly. Take for example:
a. Fiscally Conservative Mayor acts like a moron 75% of the time, but is competent at doing his job and even (shockingly) is a political animal who respects taxpayers' money.
Admits to smoking crack and has some rather dubious personal friends with very suspect records.
b. Provincial Liberal Gov gets caught red-handed illegally cancelling two gas-fired power plants to save 3 seats during the last election.
Then go on official record in the Commons quoting the cancelation penalties/costs as $40 million.
Auditor General goes to work and finds out the real cost is actually $1.1 Billion!!! And that top level Fiberals lied about their level of involvement in the whole affaire.
Guess what story has had almost daily coverage for most of the whole freaking year... (if you answered 'B', try again.)
Too many loony-toon leftists who are too damn friendly with the likes of their Teacher Union & CUPE pals. Our entire province is almost bankrupt, but that's okay. Toronto Mayor smoke crack though? Bring out the pitchforks and burning brands and summon the public witch-burning squad!

Wow, this guy can do drugs recreationally and still run a city?
It's almost as if drugs aren't in and of themselves a problem!
We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

I'm also kind of disappointed. The moxie of this guy to just keep on going despite the mountain of evidence was just incredible.

Ha! That's genius
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Depends on what you would call running a city. He can slash budgets with reckless abandon, that's about it.
I don't think drugs are what people are taking issue with, it's the lying about drugs and their use and being involved with their use in addition to other criminal activity while also being a tough on crime conservative in favour of harsher sentences and all the insanity of the drug war.
It's kinda like how the gay community don't like closeted homosexual politicians whose public image is one of a conservative "family man" who advocate against a lifestyle they secretly live.
I have a conservative friend who regularly mocks Trudeau for being a "pothead" who assures me rob ford's drug use was "totally different". Even though Trudeau was honest from the get go about having smoked pot.
As a recreational drug user myself, I understand discretion and stereotyping but even though we all expect a level of hypocrisy from our elected officials it's nice when someone is honest without being caught and totally out of options. The ford’s have acted like there is a conspiracy against them from day one, doug even having the balls to ask the police chief to step down over this mess…. That’s insane.

What about federal scandals? The senate scandal? The missing 3 billion? I think harper is happier than gak for the timing of all of this, ctv did like 30 seconds at th end about the suspensions.
