Hi, I'm having a short game with friends in a week or so and quite want to beat him. I was thinking about something like this.

Libarian, level 2

Assult terminators all with TH/SS

10 man tactical squad, rhino, gravgun
10 man tactical squad, rhino, flamer

Land Raider redeemer
Stalker

Thanks for the help.

What army do your friends usually play?
Do they usually bring fliers?

My friends play chaos, necrons, orks, grey knights (rarely) and tau
Usually they bring 1 or no flyers never more.

Why a gravgun in the Tac squad? You're not gunlining so you've got a 9" range 2 shot weapon. Swap that for a Plasmagun which is much better on tactical marines.

Get combi weapons on your sergeants, always matched to the units special weapon except with plasma sometimes a combi grav works as you may be stationary for the turn you need to use the combi. In general you only need your special weapon for 1 important turn and that turn defines the combat effectiveness of the squad. By taking a matched combi you're basically doubling the combat effectiveness of a 200+ point unit for 10 points.

However running 20 tactical marines at 1k is a bad idea. Tac marines are a weak unit and are a tax on the army. I don't even run that many tac marines at 1850. Particularly as you are not taking heavy weapons I would suggest dropping both squads down to 5 men netting you 120 points (after getting combis) to get more killing power.

Do you need lvl2 on the Librarian? What powers are you hoping for? I would consider spending those points elsewhere.

Options to take with spare points are: Predator with las-sponsons or triple las predator if dropping lvl2. A Vindicator (though they generally work much better in pairs the LR is a decent enough distraction). That Multimelta missing from the LR. A TFC could do great against Tau. Dropping the Stalker and the lvl2 upgrade might just net you enough for 2 Stormtalons or at least 1 Stormraven.

I would drop the termies and the stalker in favor and add some centurions with grav cannons. Add ML with flakk for fliers. Consider using something other than grav guns in the tac squad. I personally prefer the crusader over the redeemer setup.

At 1k pts this list should be fairly stout. They will have a hard time with armour 14 and the new centurions with grav cannons are deadly.

Austin, Texas.

missile launchers with flakk is to expensive to be relaible. go for serious anti air, or none.

i rarely bring anti air, because i run a mech eldar army, and fliers cant do much to it.

I do drugs.
Mostly Plastic Crack, but I do dabble in Cardboard Cocaine.

I also say drop the grav from the tacs, but unlike some I feel Tacs are a foundation for a marine army being your only real scoring unit bar crimson fists (which is why I loves them!) from C:SM

I like the redeemer w/ a MM decent carry capacity with good anti infantry, which allows you to focus your tacs on more anti tank. (lets face it 2 TL lascannons or a str 6 ap 3 flamer? of course the crusader does give AC but I find them rather lacking in general. I am actually of fan of melta/MM tacs in rhinos. the only real fliers that would be a huge problem for you are helldrakes. but if you manage to keep your rhinos alive to his turn 2 that's at least 1 turn wasted poping one of your rhinos.
