As you can probably tell from my signatureI am starting CSM. I am leaning towards a Semi - Fluffy list.

I know I definitely want:

Tzeentch Daemon Prince

Heldrake w/ Baleflamer

Forgefiend (not sure what weapons)

Defiler

I need your help to make a decent army list while meeting all of these criteria. I am not fussy when it comes to gods.

Thanks in Advance.

I think Tzeetch DP is great idea. Consider running him from the Black Legion supplement rules, if for nothing else the Eternal warrior. Not sure if you will be able to get a daemon weapon for him though, black mace is also great if you stay C:CSM

Helldrake with Balefamer, consider 2 if you think it matches your theme and points restrictions. Heck even 3 if you dont mind losing friends lol.

Forgefiend is tough, for a loaded out one with 3 Ecto plas, is 200 points. Almost the cost of 2 maulerfiends. But i like the Forge with the ecto, you will over heat 1 out of 6 times per gun, but only take that glancing hit 50% of the 1 out of 6 times. You also save 33% of the time with you daemon save.

What are you considering for troops or second HQ? T-sons as troops are good but exspensive. Plague marines kitted with either melta in a rhino or Plasma to sit back on objectives is also good if you unlock them as troops. Black Legion supplement lets you take Chosen as troops, either sit back with plasma, or rhino rush with melta.

Probably would help if you let us know what models you already have, or what "fluffy" theme you are going for.

But DP, helldrake is always a great starting point.

Currently I have zero CSM models. Christmas is coming up soon though haha. That's the reason I asked for help building a decent list. so I can buy to accommodate my list.

Nurgle / unmarked are the most competitive id say.

Tzeentch is cool and possibly workable if you have a MEQ meta around you

Khorne is trash

Slaanesh can be aight.

This was my reasoning going into a 1k sons army. I can't help with competitive play, but Tzeentch is indeed cool. Look through the codex/fluff, and find what you like.

Slaanesh is the shooty faction of the CSM and if used right (with the right build) can be a force to be reckoned with

I have gone with slaanesh personally (apart from nurgle marked obliterators).

Mainly because I have never really used slaanesh before.

Robbo,
Don't get too tied up with shooting. Some people will do it better. My thoughts are CSMs are an increadibly assaulty army if you do things right.
Maulerfiends, demon prince, spawn and bikes can all confidently go for turn two assuaults.

This allows you to throw a load of CSMs (shooty ones, normal ones, anyone) in rhinos and push them forward at 18" in the first turn. If things go well they bail out and shoot in the shooting phase before the assualty things get into combat (ideally your heldrakes turn up that turn and flame as well) and then the next turn your marines are in combat as well. - A_W_E_S_O_M_E. Particularly as you can use both assault and heavy slots in the FOC.

You know about Heldrakes.

Defilers are over priced (and the model sucks). They need to find a place to use the battle cannon and then, when your emeny bares down on you, smack the emeny with the iniative order power fists. To be honest I would be more tempted by them if the model didn't suck so much.

Forgefiends are simple. Plasma for anti-infantry (anti-terminators). Autocannon for Anti-tank. If you mix them then you need to deploy so that the plasma is in range and that brings the forgefiend into range of more of the emeny.

I typically end up using the Forgefiend's plasma as more of a defensive weapon.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I'll post more ideas I've been dreaming up for my CSM army in a bit, but about the Forgefiend, I'll agree with this and expand a little bit.

I, personally, have a problem with plasma blowing up in my face so I try to avoid it at all costs so triple Ecto's is bad news. That said, I do still like it for handling massed infantry and such so I'm going to rock one Ecto in the head and then the two Hades autocannons and focus on vehicles. Since the Ecto's have a shorter range, they do make for a defensive weapon whenever someone Deep Strikes on top of you.
