What is the best way to defeat a Chaos Marines army with regular Space Marines? Plasma? I run a few dev squads, but rarely run preds.

What does your CSM opponent use? What is/are his most dangerous unit(s)?

If Heldrakes are giving you a hard time:
*3-4 Centurian Devastators with Grav Amps and Tigurius (Warlord)
*ADL for Interceptor Quadcannon

If Demon Princes are giving you a hard time:
*Don't forget to shoot every Rhino Storm Bolter and Drop Pod Storm Bolter that your army has to force Grounding Tests.
*Tigurius or allied DA Librarian with Divination in 2+ Units of Devastators with ML + Flakk

Predators don't really do anything vs. CSM besides pop the occasional Rhino, so it's okay if you don't have any. Most CSM players can actually ignore Predators most of the game, unless the mission is Big Guns Never Tire.

The imperial scum tactics I fear most are MSU, they just wreck my game. There's nothing worse than facing 12 small squads, where I wipe out one with my uber cc unit only to take a ton of shots from all the others.

Bikers tend to be hard for me to counter as well, because I need my troops to advance up the board and they can prevent that starting turn 2.

I don't use Heldrakes, and most of the players I know are moving away from them for the reasons indicated. When I do use Heldrakes, they go down less often to things like quad guns and far more often to some random shot from a plasma gun. It seems like it's better to have lots of these around instead of relying on something big to do the job.

TBH, the worst thing in the Space Marine army, for me, has always been Razorbacks.

Why razorbacks? They don't have skyfire and can't you just vector strike them.

There's no rules based reason for why they are so hard, they are basically just a heavy weapons platform that is always there to ruin my day. They are a deadly kind of mundane in large games and fit a little too conveniently into smaller armies.

Compared to everything else a SM player is going to field, Razorbacks are rarely the first thing I want to go after. But then, after ignoring them for a few rounds, when my uber cc unit emerges triumphantly from a gory assault, there's the razorback popping them with a heavy bolter and causing a failed morale check. When my bikers are turbo-boosting up the board, here comes some stupid Razorback to get between them in a way that forces me to waste a turn getting into position for the big assault. Then there will be some enemy HQ that I just want to pop with my laspreds and he's just walking up the board behind some Razorback that refuses to give up it's last hull point. Maybe it doesn't have any weapons left but it just won't go away and soaks up a lot of shots.

It's been this way for several editions of 40k, I have probably lost more squads to Razorbacks than any other single unit in the game. In 5th edition, they were great at harassing my Berzerkers and just straight up getting in the way. Just about every other CSM player I know hates them for the same reasons.

Storm ravens can really help deal with helldrakes.

Aside from that bike squads are great vs CSM. Grav guns FTW.

Just use anything in the SM book that CSM do not have access to. They are all pretty good!
TFC
Grav gun bikers
EW HQ's
Drop pod assault!

You have a good chance of winning plus the CSM player would be moaning about how he does not get them. I know I do haha!
