Hello ladies and gentlemen of dakka

I was cruising Forgeworld the other day looking to get some Tetras to replace my Pathfinders and came onto a beastly new guy called XV107 R'varna.

Instantly interested I downloaded the rules and stats and he seems like a beast and looks amazing to boot. I was thinking about picking up 2 or 3 and running a hugely riptide-esque list (3 Riptides, 2-3 R'varna, O'shovah). I know the list would be be ultimately cheezy but the look on my usual opponents face would be worth it when I set them up .

Now I'm writing this post to hear your opinions on the XV107. Is his 260 point base worth it? Is it worth dropping my usual hammerhead/skyrays for? Is his $130 cad worth it for what you get? Basically any and all thoughts you have on him I'd like to hear

also while you're here I'm curious about whether trading the Pathfinders for the Tetras is worth it.

thank you in advance

I can post stats and rules if you guys want but haven't seen that done yet so I'm not sure if we're allowed.

This doesn't quite fit in YMDC so I'll move it to a more relevant 40k board.

You won't get many games with a list like that. Pick one up and run him as part of a standard Tau allied detachment, with Enclave as your primary.

There is a thread I started about the 107 awhile back, you should check him out, the 107 is op as all get out.

Well those things certainly shut down nearly all the reliable grav weapon platforms in C:SM. That said, Lascannons/Plasmaguns/Meltaguns and heavy cannons can still kill it. Bring it on, says I.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
30k Ultramarines: 2000 pts
Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.

I think it might be nice to give it a run but the rules are experimental. Don't cry if they get nerfed later.

That being said I would buy one just for painting. Looks like a fun model to work on with lots of potential.

It's guns are currently amazing against marines (wounds on 2+ and AP3), Firing two large blasts is very good, and it is is very good against light vehicles. 80 points more than a regular riptide and really expensive (it is FW), but it's points cost if thoroughly worth it. It is great against orks, 'nids, and gaurd, and one blast glaces AV14 half the time (average of one with two blasts). The Nova charge are thoroughly worth it (firing 4 blasts from one model is amazing, 3++ is good defense, The EM Wave seems a little weird until you think about how lager that thing's base is, It's like having a 16"+ blast, and flank speed is very good for escape in a otherwise slow unit). Increase in toughness and wounds is good, and increase from a 5++ to a 4++ gainst shooting greatly increases survivability. Still BS3, but it doesn't have to worry about it as much considering that it has Large blast weapons. I may add more to this post but I have to go now.

Erik_Morkai: Maybe not. look what happened to the tetra in the first Taros Campaign book. It's markerlight went from Heavy 1 to Heavy 4 (although nerfed to heavy 2 TL in the new book), although probably will be.

Do you have a link to that thread about the 107? Yeah I know I wont get many/any pick up games with that list and I won't complain if they get nerfed but it would be nice to throw something back at my opponent who uses a few of the resurrecting chaos dreads lol. Do tanks/vehicles count as bulky?

Look at the rules. Vehicles Artillery monstrous creatures and flying monstrous creatures get three hits a Str 8.

I'd really like to hear how well they do for ya aeroroot how long did it take to get them in Canada? I'm in Alberta and the only reason I don't already have 3 on order is it's been an expensive first half of the month lol.

They are awesome. I love the model.

I would probably not go all in based on the rules though. Experimental rules almost always get changed and toned down. FW has almost exclusively weakened units in the last year so I would count on it getting nerfed considerably.

I am also considering a similar list; with 3 riptides, 3 107's, a buff commander, and some towers. I will not even make a decision whether I want it until they release the official rules though. Not due to the power of the units (I don't care if they nerf it) but as the points may go up to the point it will not all fit under 2000 pts.

Yes but Heavy 1 Tetras did not make anyone cry when they saw them. The XV107 yes.

Just look at what happened to my beloved Warp Hunters :(

On moon miranda.

Keep in mind the rules are still test rules, not official. The thing is powerful, though not broken in and of itself, rather it's that being a Heavy Support unit (which is appropriate) it allows you to field multiples of them along with multiple Riptides (which really should be HS units but aren't), and that gets silly.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I want 3 for asthetic value; they're the coolest looking model I've seen so far it doesn't matterto me if they get nerfed lol

On a fluff standpoint it does make sense that it is an elite, and in game-play it is elites so you can't take three riptides and nine crisis suits (although with the farsight supplement you can take three riptides, 18 crisis suits, nine hazard suits, Farsight and the rest of the seven (who include another riptide), one commander, two bodyguards, and three R'varnas in one FOC as well as, with Tau Empire allies, one commander, two bodyguards, three crisis suits, one riptide one R'varna, and three hazards, leading to you be TFG).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Although it would cost a lot more than 2000 points.

Actually farsight cannot take any battlesuit from FW. Supposedly they will soon release a pdf with a list but the email they sent me;

Spoiler:
Thank you for your email. We're currently working on a FAQ update concerning which units can and can't be used with Codex supplements. In respect to the Farsight supplement currently -

You can take:

Alternate Hammerhead turrets
Goaded Great Knarlocs
Mounted Great Knarloc Herd
Kroot Knarloc Rider Herd
Heavy gun Drones

Manta

You can not take

Any Battlesuit including the R'varna
Tetra
Tigershark AX-1-0
Remora drone fighter

I have heard that once before, but untill then I will be assuming that they can take them because it says on the reg WH 40k models" Blank is a blank choice in a Codex: Tau Empire army.", and farsight is allowed to take units from the tau empire codex.

I hope they don't do that because I have a scratch-built XV9 unit that works really well with my farsight army.
