Hey everybodah'

My friend's birthday is coming up an he's having a big 40k game for it, and I asked him what army he's officially going to be concentrating on (he's played about 5 now), and he said Grey Knights. He has played GK before and enjoyed them the most out of all his armies, so it makes sense (even though I absolutely hate Draigo, but that's a topic for another day) but he sold all his GK stuff so he's starting again, now much better at painting and building. He asked me to get him some Grey Knight stuff, telling me he was going to run a list with Crowe, after which I suggested converting him a custom Crowe (I have all the tools I'd need and I do more conversions than him, he's always wanted me to convert him something cool).
He also said he has the backpack and banner from Crowe's official model to use on the conversion.

My initial ideas were getting a box of Grey Knights and putting one in a cooler position with some more stand-out armor, but I just wanted to hear some suggestions.

Yeah, imho the stance and arms make the greatest difference. Like for example, if you positioned him running of charging that would probably look really cool and different, since he's usually in a very static pose.

As above. He needs a cape, and the real focus should be the sword. For mine, I made the Black Blade by taking a Force Sword, swapping out the hilt and pommel for some demon horns/spikes, and then used green stuff to sculpt flames on the blade, then painted the blade black with purple flames. I reckon it's pretty cool. Whatever you do, the sword will set him apart from a normal brotherhood champion (although truth be told I've never seen anyone use one, so there's little chance for confusion)

Use the PA GK kit as you're base for the conversion and simply swap the sword out. Personally I like the feel of the original sword but things such as Bloodletter weapons, Abaddon's sword and other such weapons also make good substitutes.

First of all I hate Draigo too. He's just stupid.

I love Crowe I think he's a unique idea. Even if he can't join a squad grumble grumble kill Matt ward grumble grumble. But back to the topic.

I like the gw pose of Crowe it's so calm externally when you know inside that steel he's all like "yknow that song. I don't wanna set the world On fire. Well after this battle I'm gonna rewrite it cos I wanna cleanse all the things!"

Crowe is a stable in any purifier army but a gk gm Is a stable in any army.

As a gk Crowe player I'd love a unique Crowe but hey I can always buy one. But I can't buy a gm

A good suggestion but Crowe is the holder and guardian of a Daemon Sword (of obligatory untold power).

And that stops you from using the VV swords as a base ... Why?

Thanks for the responses everyone, I think I'll get the GK kit and maybe use a Khorne Bloodletter sword on a space marine hand.

well if you could, I'd ebay for robed marines off, or get a DA HQ to covert as the base
