Just got myself ten Wyches and Lelith.

I hear these girls are useless except for... killing tanks with haywire grenades... sigh

Is that true? Is there another way to use them? They don't have to be super-competitive, but by god they won't be busting tanks on my watch!

Also, random question, but does the effects of multiple shardnets stack? I can see them murderizing monstrous creatures if it does. And Lelith's attacks, they "ignore all armour saves" and the FAQ doesn't seem to address if this has been nerfed to AP3 like other power weapons, or if she's actually AP2 (which would be pretty scary)

Cheers

For the most part, yes wytches are really good tankbusters, but not so great in combat. If they can get into assault, they are OK but getting there is the issue. If you want an assault squad, 9-10 models with a hamey for FNP, and a hekatrix with a PGL to help with overwatch. Don't expect them to do tons of damage but they can do well if they get a good drug roll.

Shardnets do stack, and Wytches are great for tarpitting units like wraithknights or what have you. They won't do much damage unless you have a venom blade or agonizer, but they can dodge and tarpit.

Lilly still ignores armor saves except for shooting attacks.

Only ok? They're drug fueled super gladiators... they should be fantastic!

Cheers for the tips. Open to any other suggestions on how to use them too.

The problem with Wyches is a problem shared by any small squad (10 or less) that is both a dedicated CC unit AND a scoring troop. CC whittles down the squad and can leave them in the open unexpectedly to get shot up, and suddenly, you have no troops left.

Make good use of their Fleet to assault through cover (from less than 8" to make good use of their PLG) to help mitigate overwatch.

Good drug rolls help them, as does an agonizer (i prefer AP3 to wounding on 2+) and the PGL. The Duke is a great help (double drug roll and choose) and while Lilith is a great fun, i'm not sure she's all that effective (S/T 3, and only a 4++ outside of CC)

The Twilight Zone

chelsea hit the nail on the head. DE troops are fragile, and sending your troops into assault is losing a scoring unit. Be sure to take plenty of backup scoring models so you can get those objectives.

Some sample builds-

Wytch venom:
5 girls with haywire grenades. Venom with dual cannons. Simple tank hunters and scoring models. If you want some utility, take a shardnet and impaler for this squad and use them to tie stuff up.

Wytches in a raider:
10 wytches, 2 shardnets all haywire grenades. Hekatrix with a PGL and agonizer/venom blade(your choice). Raider with aethersails, maybe flickerfields/nightshields. This is about as good as your going to get with an assault unit. You could drop the nets for flails or gauntlets for more CC punch, but the boosts these give are minimal. The shardnets make wytches very good at stopping things like assault terminators, wraiths, mc's etc. You can always drop a wytch to get a hamey with venom blade+liquifier gun in the raider. The girls get out and take the pain token of the hamey.

Lilith and friends:
Lilith+9 wytches with haywire grenades, shardent, hekatrix with PGL and venom/aggy. Raider with sails, flickerfields. Here lilith has some bodyguards and the hekatrix to accept challenges you don't want to fight. Always take a shardnet here as lilly has one, giving you 2 nets total. Again, you can take a hamey here to get a pain token off the bat.

How does the Hekatrix squad stack up? +3pts for +1ld and A and the ability to take more of those special weapons seems alright

Seriously - get some transport, one of your biggest advantages with the DE is the mobility and the use of fast open-topped skimmers as assault vehicles and for rapid redeployment. It is startling just how fast you can shift the axis of your army and wrong-foot your opponent leaving them with nothing to shoot at.

Apart from shardnets I would only play the other special Wych weapons for fun, and even the shardnets are only really useful if you know you have cc opponents with multiple attacks imo.

Shardnet & impaler proved very useful for me when tarpitting
