Subject: Dire foe sets as a starter?

I've long wanted to get into Infinity (I've picked up the odd figure over the years and some books when on sale), and have been wondering about what people think regarding using the Dire Foe sets as a way to learn the rules. My impression is that these sets are more-or-less self-contained, with mission specific rules and stats for the contents.
My worry is that the figures/scenarios are sufficiently unique that they won't really work too well as an introduction to the rules. Any thoughts?

With just three models, I'm not really sure that there will be enough to really get into the game. No Squad Tactics, and likely a lot of special rules.

Also, from the tidbits I've gleaned - you will still need a 300pt army to go with these dire foes in order to play those missions. They are three models and a handful of rules (with regards to their profiles) and a specific single mission for them.
Learning the game is easy. You don't even need to buy the infinity models. Download the rules. Proxy models. Figure out how orders, AROs and all the rest work. Watch the videos on youtube. Play some games.
Then, if you like the models (and most people who play the game do), buy ALL OF THEM.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

But don't worry- you only have to buy all the models for your main army to start, as well as for one or two Demo Armies if you need to start to own group.

Yes as Chromedog says we've been told these guys will fit in with 300pt forces, although I'm sure there will be nothing to stop you using 150pts or so (depending on what the missions are like).
Otherwise..

Definitely this, almost everyone I know started with proxying or else just a few light infantry and one special weapon. The way the mechanics and ARO (automatic reaction) work will sell the game to you before you even considered the miniatures, I guarantee it!
I would probably recommend the Beasts of War starter rules to get going (full rules downloadable from the website, but this is a really well done little document)

And, of course the beginner guide here on Dakka http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/549783.page
Those Dire Foes boxes do look good, that Treitak Anyat miniature is as sexy as hell..

Oh, I know about the other resources, I was just hoping that these packs might serve as a sort of a minimalist "2-player starter" as it were.
As for the 300 point lists, that is something I was confused about: I remember reading that at one point, but my read of the blurbs for the boxes didn't really make it clear to me what you were to do with them.
So, you take a generalist 300 point list, an opponent with a like list, and then just add the characters and scenario right on top of that?

These boxes aren't really interesting until you have a full force yourself, and an opponent with same to play against. Only then, you add a box like this.

That's the general impression. The idea of these sets is to take the 300pt list of you and your opponent, add the characters to each side, and play a scenario with those two full lists plus characters based around the civilian model.

That would make sense, it's basically just an extension of the ideas within the Paradiso book.
Have to say probably the 'dark mist' faction is one of the coolest looking ones at the moment, like all of the miniatures in it.
