so, I was wanting to try a shoot'em up BA army. This is what I cam up with. Captian Tycho-175 ML1 Libby- 100 10 man tac squad w/ flamer and ML- 170 10 man tac squad w/ flamer and ML- 170 10 man tac squad w/ plasma gun and LC- 190 10 man tac squad w/ plasma gun and LC- 190 3 Sang priests w/ 3 power axes- 180 Corbulo- 105 1 sang priest w/ power axe- 65 8 man Sternguard w/ 5 combi meltas 1 heavy flamer w/ power maul sgt. in pod- 260 5 Dev squad w/ LC- 190 Storm Raven w/ TL AC and TL LC- 200 Libby sits back w/ unleash rage and either shield of sanguinius or fear the darkness. cast unleash rage on the dev squad. tycho and corbulo drop with the sternguard (corbulo has always worked amazing for me. eldar players HATE him. haha!) priests are there for the FnP and a bit extra oomph in melee to help the tacs live longer. I don't feel great about it but I don't feel terrible. thoughts? doesn't have to win tournaments, just semi competitive-- friendly games.

Unleash Rage only works for assault.
The list seems nice and shooty BA isn't exactly dead, just difficult (since it's everything that normal marines have with 10% more price).
It does seem nice and will most likely work but don't expect too much from it. And btw, Tycho going to the Pod?

looks solid and very shooty i personally like the more assault oriented aspect of BA simply because as mentioned before BA have everything SM have but with a higher price tab.
So from my perspective if you don't capitalize on the special rules then you aren't justifying the cost you pay to do the same thing.

Personally I'd drop tycho, he is ace but I reckon points could work elsewhere. Buy all the tac squads drop pods so you have 5 put 2 squads on the table leaving 2 empty pods and have ur stern guard drop with two tac squads for support. This approach will require some list re jigging but you should get my point.

Tycho and corbulo are both with the sternguard. the sternguards pop down, blow something up, and then soak the str8+ wounds from corbulo, while corbulo soaks the str7 and lower wounds for them. They will wreck a back field of tanks if left alone, and the amount of shooting it takes to actually down the unit, is usually pretty ridiculous (have had several armies shoot everything at them, and they survive 2 turns) well, usually only corbulo and tycho are left, but thats fine.
I may drop the libby, as unleash rage doesn't work for me here. if I drop the axes I can even fit in another Tac squad.

I don't get what your master plan with the tac squads is to be honest, the limited range makes a poor gun line and when they move the heavy weapons are a waste. The top army builds would tarpit your vet squad and smash your tac squads with superior range or movement.

I would love to see them tarpit tycho and corbulo lol. unless its something (terminators?) that would wreck them anyway, not much will tarpit them. I am not trying to beat eldar WS spam, or tau 4 riptides, but vs those armies I would most likely combat squad the tacs. drop the sang priests for dev squads as well.

If you wanted the rerolls to hit just get presience! I tried a mass shooty, no mech, BA army once. It looked ace on paper. It was a total disaster!

yeah I want to see how it works, I tried a mech list, it was fun and impressively more effective than I thought it would be, here is what it looked like. 2k mechangels Mephy- 250 10 man tac w/ melta gun, missile launcher- 175 10 man tac w/ flamer, missile launcher- 170 10 man tac w/ flamer, missile launcher- 170 Razor backs w/ TL HB- 165 Baal pred w/ flamestorm cannon and heavy flamers- 140 Baal pred w/ flamestorm cannon w/ HB- 145 3x land speeder w/ MM/MM- 240 (really, the typhoon ML is rid expensive) Storm raven w/ TL AC/ TL LC-200 Storm raven w/ TL AC/ TL LC-200 Vindicator- 145

I know Corbulo looks like a hard nut to crack but my local meta is orks, guard and DE. Roll enough dice at a 2+ save and he will go down pretty quick. I feel with your foot list you will be out manouvered out ranged and if any of your units get caught by dedicated CC you will be in trouble. I can prob name 10 different units that could either wipe the floor with your vet squad or at least keep it occupied for 3/4 turns. Jump packs, drop pods, deep strike or ranged fire are your friends. Space marines are the alpha shock troops of the 40k world if you want a gun line go IG.

courbulo is an extremely hard nut to crack, look out sir unsaved wounds. but, most of the fire coming from orks and IG will not pen armor, so you have 3+/2+FnP. it has worked extremely well for me in my other lists, I don't see it stopping, even if he does die to the second turn of fire, that buys me that much time to get the restof my army up and in CC, idk how it would work here though.
