Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of trouble looking around for 28mm monsters / creatures. I'm looking for things that are maybe ogre / horse sized or maybe a bit larger, so not totally massive.
I found this for reference, I'd love to find a similar 2-legged monster, but it seems this was a limited sculpt from way back by Tony McVey ( ID Monster based off of the Forbidden Planet movie... from the 50s!).
Anyway, it seems that The Miniatures Page ( http://theminiaturespage.com/ ) might be a decent place to go for suggestions, but I thought I'd ask here since I can never really figure out how to use that site...! I'd think there'd be companies wholly devoted to making awesome monsters, but I'm coming up short in my searches.
Cheers for any help

I can't think of any monsters like that one in particular, but a few suggestions for general monster models.
Some of the most interesting monster designs I've ever seen were from the Dreamblade line of minis. Long oop, but you can find some singles online.
Horrorclix were less original, but very well sculpted for the most part.
This site I just discovered makes a few, including daemons of Malal. (!) http://www.cpmodelsminiatures.co.uk/CP%20MODELS%2028MM%20%20NIGHT%20TERRORS.htm
Of course Reaper makes ( imo) the best minis on the market, and have tons of different monsters both in metal and ultra cheap bones resin.
You might want to browse the single figs for D&D, Pathfinder battles, ect. They have some interesting creature designs. (Privateer Press too has lots of gnarly beasts, but you probably know about them I'm guessing.)
I'd suggest Coolminiornot rather than the minis page for browsing. There's a lot of cool monsters produced by little known companies I'm sure, anyone else know of some hidden gems?

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome. |

For cheap-ish monsters of good quality (especially dragons) I turn to McFarlane toys. Sure, they are a bit poseable and they have some gaps but some people won't mind and dedicated hobbyists would see it as an easy fix (plus it's pre-painted very nicely and a dragon costs less than a dreadnought). And I'm really picky with painted stuff.
Dark Sword miniatures also has some (usually lizard-y) monsters in their array of products. I think they should be exposed more.
DnD minis hae some big dragons out there. They have sloppy pre-paints but the sculpts on the bigger monsters are okay (not sharp, but okay), and they will paint up nicely. Same with Dreamblade but those are harder to find online.

Is this for a unit in an army RiTides? So, you'd need multiples of them?

Not too sure I have seen a good match for that in the sizes you specify. Normally when I am after odd ball things, I will either troll around Google images (or Bing) using a variety of key words till I see something or get a set of keywords that seems to provide good results than I will check through a couple of the gaming super stores like FRP Games or Noble Knight. You still miss out on the few hundred boutique manufacturers, but it can be very difficult to find anything through many of those due to the way they are organized.
For this particular one though - I'd probably look for a dinosaur of the size I wanted and then modify that to fit. Bit of surgery to remove the front arms, shorten the neck and attach a head from one of several troll type monsters. Putty to blend it all together and it should be workable at roughly 1 1/2" tall. There is a pretty good selection of 1/72 (or 15mm if you prefer to look at gaming miniatures) dinosaurs which should be roughly the right size. The neck cut back will be in line for receiving a head from a regular 28mm monster.
Overall though, getting an exact match (or even pretty close depending on how you define close) will be near impossible. That figure is designed to be walking on its arms, so you have shoulder blades, deltoids and ligaments like you find on a humanoid arm. The hands are feet though, and are configured as such. The head is configured more in line with a humanoid (or at least simian) as opposed to reptiles or other monsters. The eyes are set at the front of the head, the mouth and nose are largely inline with the plane of the face with no real significant muzzle. The tail is less tail and more tentacle, ending with a hand of sorts.
All of those different parts which are not normally put together and don't have an analog in a popular game system make it a hard find in general.

While these are beautiful, they are not 28 mm. I don't know the exact scale, but it's noticeably larger than 28 mm. Y'sala i have seen in person and she stands a full head taller than a space marine.
Just an FYI.
Was going to buy her and use her as a DE sorceress back when i played them, but it would have been the Elf with the case of Giganticism compared to all her minions.

Sorry I missed this, Da Boss- I'm actually participating in my very first RPG after only ever having played wargames for a long time, so I was just looking for singles
That McVey "Darkness" model is really sweet, and unique! That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of, sans the figure in front of it. Weird, unique, intimidating and awesome!
...but of course, unavailable . Appreciate the thoughts so far guys, and any others would be welcome as well of course
