I have primarily a space marine army, with some guard, and I want to get some forge world models. I was looking at the fire raptor because it looks badass but it's kinda expencive ($150 USD). So I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions as how to spend about $100 to $150 in forgeworld models and get the most for my money. BTW I have a unique chapter so all the specific chapter stuff is a no go for me.
EDIT: I'm also planning on adding a small Tau force to support my marines.

You can't really buy much for $100 - most vehicle kits will use up all that or more.
If you wanted to buy several kits.... then maybe buy a character that you can try converting (shave off chapter specific imagery). Another option would be to buy some heresy era armoured marines to spice up your veteran squads.

Get the fire raptor. It looks sweet, the rules are great, and from what I've heard, it's really easy to assemble.
Otherwise, Spartan Assault Tank? That's good, but the same price and really difficult to assemble.
Or a Caestus Assault Ram. One of my friends has one, they're a reasonable all-rounder.

Gossipmeng - I'm redoing my enitre chapter right now, which is part of the reason I'm wanting fw stuff. I was hoping I could get maybe 2 or 3 vehicles to use as centerpieces.
-Shrike- - i saw a vid of the bitz used and it didn't look too bad, a lot of plastic.

At 150 you probably wont be getting too much.
probably enough for one tank and a unit of pre heresy stuff power armor.
What type of army are you looking for exactly? (style of play)
as that would determine what would be best for your tank selection or two.

I havn't played in at least two years, in fact I've only played about 6 or 7 times. So I don't know how I play, I do know though I've lost every game I've played so far ^^;;
I want tanks or aircraft because I'm severely lacking in the armor department, I only have one predator, rhino and razorback for my almost 200 marines.
My guard as two custum malchadors, 2 destroyer tank hunters and a leman russ punisher.
So I thought getting a good flyer would be my best choice.

The flyer should be strong. though you would want to back it up with some flyer buddies like storm talons and what not. that can be added later

That's what I was thinking of doing if I went with the fire raptor.
Thanks everyone for your input, I will get the Fire Raptor after all, but not untill I get my bonus in december so it doesn't hurt me too badly.

You could go for a Dreadnought if you want to keep it cheap-ish, snag a Contemptor pattern for extra cool factor plus arms for ~$80.

Raptor will be a pain in the ass to assemble - especially as your first FW model. I will agree the Contemptor Dreads are a joy to assemble and pose.

Contemptor Dreadnoughts are a very good choice, and it allows you to spend the remaining money on getting, say, various upgrade bits you might like (heresy era weapons, armor, Tartaros/Cataphracti Terminators, even more Contemptor arms).

Of course it will be a pain in the ass to assemble. The side and wing panels are going to be warped; the alignment of the piece surrounding the canopy won't fit correctly with the body. You'll have to do a lot of resin bending, sanding, filing and possibly gap filling. You'll end up with about as much left over garbage resin as the model actually has.
The bigger FW models are not for beginners nor for the faint of heart. They are most definitely models for those willing to take the time to learn how to properly beat the thing into the shape seen on the site. But if you are patient and plan through each step (yes, read ALL of the directions first) then you will end up with a stunning looking model.

The best purchase from Forge World I've ever made is my Punisher Vulture; it's proven an invaluable anti-flyer tool with its ability to get into other flyers' rear arcs with Vector Dancer and unload 23 S5 shots.

I'd go for a Contemptor and a set of Cataphractii Terminators. Maybe add some Legion Praetors if you can swing it as well.

My vote goes to the Mortis Contemptor. Great anti-flyer in a game where it is hard to get dual-purpose units like that. After that, and if you are good at fixing resin...go with the Fire Raptor or Storm Eagle(I prefer the Storm Eagle myself).

I have to back this gentleman's statement. A Contemptor and Cataphractii Terminators(or another of the older armor patterns) would give you something interesting and unique for your Marines.
Are they going to be as impressive at first glance as the Fire Raptor? Probably not. But given that the Contemptor is able to be posed fairly well and the Terminators would be great for a "signature unit" in your army it gives you more bang for your buck.

Don't be put off by the loads of bad reports on FW quality , I've never had a problem yet, but it is more difficult to work with.
You will be able to get more now they are offering free shipping. (with some stupid conditions)
Contemptors are great and look fantastic but really really stupidly expensive. Be better with a mechanicum castellax.
I'd go for a good mix of 5 man squads across different armor
types and weapons. Throw in a Deimos predator or FW's rhino variant for a point of difference on the battlefield!

Ok, so I started looking around their website to make sure what I wanted....And now I have a real shopping list. Every month I'll get some more.
Praetors
Power wepons set
10x Breaching Seige Marines
10x Assault Marines
Tataros Special weapons
10x Tataros Terminators
Mk IV command set
Apothecary set
2x Contemptors (still debating on weapons)
Fire Raptor
Spartan Assault tank
I'm starting off with the smaller groups of infantry and I'll work my way up to the big sets.

I'm spending a lot more than i was planning.
The breaching marines just look bad ass. And I like the tataros more than the other type of terminator. Automatically Appended Next Post: The Praetor in terminator armor is going be my Chaptor Master.
