I hate those stupid lasgun barrels sticking out the back of the Chimera. And I am probably going to end up with five in my army. It isn't even like they are relevant for LoS, apparently. So surely no one can have any problems with me getting rid of them.
But what to do instead?
I haven't found any references yet. But I bet some of the tread-heads in here have looked at them before. Any suggestions of cool shooting hatches or even totally different tank features that I could do...? Have played with the idea of getting layers of semi transparent coloured perspex for the "portholes" that would represent kind of bomb-proof glass. Yes I know... tanks don't have windows. But it could looks kinda cool. And I want this guard army to be just a bit more sci-fi than usual mech with a little more tech (they have tau allies).

Well if they're going to have tau allies, why not make drones cover the las-gun spots. Sort of like automated targeters or a shield drone or a landing pad for them?

The really simple option is to chop off the lasguns then mount the round mounting balls 'sideways' inside the holes so that only a nice smooth dome shape is visible - instant gun hatches.
Or going with your bomb-proof glass potholes idea, a craft shop should have transparent plastic beads of the same size as the lasgun mountings.

I just glue a sheet of plasticard over the inside, and shade them to look like ports.

I do this. I've seen beads put in their place that were painted like lenses and those looked cool too though.

I found that spare lengths of track go quite nicely over the top of the ports if you want to ignore them entirely and just rely on the rear hatch.

We'll they are irrelevant anyway in terms of LoS - it states clearly in the codex that All firing points are take. To be the turret.

Hi Kholzerino, do you hate the idea of ANY lasgun fixed to the firing ports or just the ones that come with the chimera kit?
I refit all my chimeras with cut down plastic Cadian lasguns to better fit in with my Cadian based mechanized infantry.

A Chimera with the Lasguns mounted inside-out...leaving only the spheres sticking out.
Another Chimera with the step-back conversion. In this case I used the inner gun support to make square firing ports/windows in place of the round ones. (now if I could only paint a glass effect...sigh)

Hey Viking Child. Yours look MUCH BETTER than the as standard ones. Well done, but I'd prefer not. For one thing, I think I'm going to fire a lot of stuff that isn't lasguns out of Chimeras and it sort of bugs me the idea that they would stick guns onto the vehicles...
Hey dkellyj, Yeah. Have been looking at the cut back conversion for the Chimera. I like it a lot. Looks like a fair bit of work though, and a lot to potentially feck up.
