In your opinion what level of thread creation do you consider spamming? Assuming the thread is relevant to the forum and not meant to be obnoxious or aggressive what do you consider over the top (spamming) for thread creation?

If your thread creation count is more than a third, certainly half of your total posts, I'd say you're probably being a bit irresponsible with your thread creation.

There's several users on here I've noticed create a thread to ask one question, then shortly after create a new thread which asks a question which with a little more thought could easily have been incorporated into the initial thread, or simply asked in that thread.

I don't think it is something you should fix a number to, as doing that makes people think they can push that kind of limit and defend it with "BUT IT IS ONLY X THREADS". It's just common sense, really. If you think you are starting to be rude, chances are you probably are.

I'd agree that that there isnt a hard number but if there are excessive number of similar threads (made by yourself or others) already in existance in the first page or 3 of that subforum then it would be polite to add to those rather than starting a new one.

As long as the thread isn't too similar to other recent threads, I'd say it's fair game.

I'd agree with curran12, it's most certainly not a fixed number.

Your thread/post ratio might be a bit awkward, but I'd say it's fine.

Also, did you mean etiquette, rather than edicate?

I generally say that if you have half of your post count or more in thread OPs then you're probably being a bit too spammy with your threads. Now you've got 54% of topics created in the 40k boards, of which I don't visit too often, but in the last 2 weeks you have 8 threads created. That's a lot of threads for a short period of time. Thankfully you're not like some posters that post a thread and don't actually participate in it...

I just browsed through your created threads (and geez, I thought I had started too many threads ), and I'd say you're fine. The kinds of topics you post are necessary for a living forum.

It's not like you're doing this:
"Help me choose an army!"
"I think I want to start Eldar, need some advice!"
"Which army is better? Eldar or Orks?"
"What Fast Attack is the best for Orks?"
"Can Orks be compititave [sic]?"
"Which army is cheaper? Orks or Chaos Space Marines?"
"I just checked the GW site and prices have gone up over 50%!!!"

I'd say do a cursory search both manually on the front page of a less active forum and with the actual search function to make sure the same thing wasn't posted in the past few weeks. There really isn't much of a point to starting a "what weapon should I choose for my Landspeeder" thread if there is a 3 page discussion from 10 days prior in the same subforum about "Landspeeder armaments and playstyles".

I start very few threads, but I've never given one thought to a golden ratio. The mods here are very responsible and relatively tolerant, so unless you've received a PM or warning, I see no reason for concern. Now, there are a select few around here who think they're mods, and are a bit overzealous in their need to cull what they perceive as duplicate threads. As long as you think you have a legitimate reason for starting a new thread, don' t worry about those individuals.

I don't mind repeat threads; sometimes it can be hard to search out what you want. (although... the P&M forum is full of people who don't seem to be able to use the search function)

The only type of thread that annoys me is the type that basically repeats the forum title or acts like a FB/Twitter feed....... Like the 'What's on your mind' thread that ran for ages in the OT forum

It really depends on the nature of the threads you are creating.

Starting a discussion (on a topic which hasn't been covered in the last few months) is always welcome.

Where it starts to become spam is when someone starts to ask questions that only require 1 response for the case to be closed and thread to die. Now this shouldn't discourage people from inquiring on the forums, but these posters should really do a bit of research first. An example is if some asks what equipment or weapon a certain unit or vehicle should be equipped with - if the codex is new or the player's meta is unique then this is a reasonable question. However, if the codex has been out for a few years and the player provides no specific details about his meta/opponents then they have several years worth of threads to dive into and pull the info they need.

As a rule I don't see why it would be necessary to have a thread count which is more than 30% of your total posts. Forums require participation and if everyone just started threads, it would be very bland. You should really try and help out a few members with their posts before starting a new thread yourself - pay it forward thrice.
