evening dakka,
I've seen a few threads here state that the salamanders flamecraft chapter tactic does not apply to vehicle weapons. can anyone point me to the relevant rule(s) that make that so? I don't see anything in the codex or codex FAQ that would imply this. what have I missed?
cheers

Only models that have the specific rule "Chapter Tactics" may benefit from that particular Chapter's abilities.
Now look at the "Special Rules" section in each unit description. In every case of dudes (Troops, Terminators, Captains, Veterans, etc) you will see the rule: Chapter Tactics (pg77). This indicates that unit type can use any of the Space Marine Tactic Types.
Now look at all of the Vehicle type units (including Dreadnoughts!). They do NOT have the Special Rule "Chapter Tactics."
Therefore vehicles do not avail themselves of the Chapters Tactics. So your Imperial Fist Rhino's Storm Bolter does not get the "Bolter Drill" CT and does not get to reroll 1s. A Salamander vehicle with a Flamer weapon does not get to reroll wounds. Note that if Vulkan is in your list any Melta weapons on your vehicles do get the twin link since this is a specific rule to Vulkan and not a Chapter Tactic.
You must also remember that units inside a dedicated transport may confer their USRs to that vehicle...so A Raven Guard Rhino's squad gets the "Scouts" USR and may confer the Scout USR onto the Rhino for purposes of pre-game Scout Moves or outflanking from reserves.

Just to clarify that last point, a USR is only conferred to a dedicated transport if the USR itself specifically states that it does.

FWIW...I think Dreds NOT getting the CT rule is BS. So here we get a Marine, centuries old. A veteran of a thousand battles and an expert on using flame based weapons.
Grievously wounded in battle, he is interred into a Dreadnought. And now, a thousand years later and 10,000 battles more...he still can't remember the Tactic that lets his flamer act as Twin-Link?
An IF Dred has forgotten his Bolter Drill and now sucks at shooting his storm bolter?
An RG Dred hangs out while the rest of the Army Scouts ahead?
At least IH Dreds get "It will not die."

You might also be remembering the previous SM Codex where Vulkan's Chapter Tactics affected every weapon of the right type and every unit with Combat Tactics lost that.
