I know this book has been out for a while but Ive just finished reading it. At the very end it appears that Kasper Ansbach Hawser is supposed to go into stasis. But first he wants to see if there are wolves on fenris. He enters the woods and Russ says "Until next winter". Tht statement is made before one dies though. Does Kasper Ansbach Hawser get killed by the wolves or does he enter stasis?

It's never made quite clear, actually. He is about to go into stasis, but runs out into the forest with thousands of wolves eye fething him. Both Kasper and Russ seem committed to the idea that he should go to stasis, but like you said, it seems like he runs out to his death.

They changed it, but I give them three posts before they swear again as they can't seem to help it.

On topic. I thought he was dreaming in statis, but reading it again makes me think he off to get killed. I guess we'll have to wait and see if he pops up in any books.

As to the topic: there's a lot left ambiguous in both of those books. I like the notion that Hawser goes into the woods to further serve the wolves.

I would agree with this and think the end of the book is one of those stories he was talking to the Wolf King about. But the line with the bit saying it's his last hour before statis says other wise. With the HH books either one could be right tbh.

A rather ordinary human put into a device intended to take mortally-wounded Astartes? I'm of the idea that he was put into a more "traditional" medical stasis device.

Prospero Burns ends with Kasper Houser running outside and getting ridden by Wolves.

Space Wolves riding wolves riding Kasper Houser. That should be the title to Abnett's next book.

No, because they keep him around to tell his tale and tales of the heresy to younger space wolves, because as a skjald of the Wolves, it was his duty to hear the stories of the Legion and pass them on.

Well, he's not a native Fenrisian, so that's unlikely. Unless you mean he became "wolf" in the sense of passing through a wolf's digestive track after he ran into a forest full of them.

maybe he went into stasis AFTER he went through a stroll in the woods and leman russ just didn't want to say good bye again later at the stasis chamber so he just says his farewell at the woods

he was put into permanent stasis as he could not longer be an active member of the space wolves but they do recognize that he was innocent party and out of there respect the put him next to cormac dod to be awoken like Bjorn to tell the tales of generations past to the young wolves then put to sleep again,im assuming that one day he will be allowed to walk amongst the wolves once more in the wolf time

This was kinda my interpretation as well wacky as it sounds, I mean the wolves did a lot to him surgically. Maybe they can use the canister helix to intentionally turn someone into a wolflike creature? I mean it seemed that after all he had seen both he and Russ believed he had to get locked up one way or the other. Perhaps Russ gave him the honor of becoming a wolf instead of just going to sleep forever and bathing dust? Brings another meaning to “there are no wolves on Fenris” again as well. Perhaps the SW have a lot of inconvenient truths running around in their woods.

It's pretty clear that at the end Kasper Hawser is sent to his death so that no one will know the truth about how the Wolves were manipulated into destroying Prospero.

How do the Wolves in the novel deal with death? By denying it's happening.

Remember how during that one battle the mortally wounded Rune Priest was talking to Hawser about how he just needed some time to rest while his body repaired itself? And remember how that was literally the exact opposite of what was actually happening?

Remember how at the end Russ says they need to keep Hawser around because they can't stand to lose the stories he has in his head?

Yeah. He gets eaten by wolves. The End.

My take was that the wolves in question were failed Marine applicants. That's made fairly clear earlier in the book. I assumed the last bit was more about him finally conquering his fear of wolves and that he felt safe in the forest. I just assumed the Russ was letting him blow off some steam before going back into cold storage.
