Three Color Minimum
|
after going through thousands of photos looking at painted space wolves i am still not much further then when i started ...
i can not decide on the base color i want to paint them. i do not want just plain grey, but i do not want the color that is more of a dull blue ... so i am stuck ... about the only other thing that comes to mind is mixing a little gunmetal metallic in with the grey to offset it a bit? ...
what colors have you painted them with? ... as of right now i can get GW paint, some vallejo (model series mostly military) and then all the craft store paint i want ...
hoping to figure out a color that i can airbrush on them to save time with the base coating if nothing else.

Ok, if you don't want 'plain' grey or bluish grey, then the obvious choices are:
- stick with something similar to official colours, e.g. another grey. Perhaps a brownish grey, for a more naturalistic 'wolfy' look. Or white, for a 'winter wolf' look?
- or go crazy and just paint them your favourite colour, be that purple or orange or black or whatever
In either case, you'll get sniffy remarks from SW purists re the colours, so it's worth considering a SW successor chapter, either one of the standard ones in the codex (which may also give you some colour scheme ideas) or make up your own.

Ah, just checked http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Space_Wolves and you're right, they don't have successor chapters as such (possibly this has been retconned by GW at some point? - I seemed to recall they did have successor chapters in a previous codex, but may be dreaming).
Anyway, that doesn't rule out inventing your own chapter who happen to fight in the same style as SW and therefore use the same codex. Depends on how much you like all the wolfy symbolism and how good a painter/converter you are, I suppose...

As a SW player, all I can say "your minis, do as you like".
Make your own Chapter if you want and done.

I went with the scheme I spotted on space-wolves-grey blogspot. It was a bit dirtier/grimier, and I thought that fit the bill for Space Wolves a lot better than the clean, bright, sky blue I saw as the newest theme.
I also agree. If you wanna mix it up, go for it. The minis are yours to do with as you wish. I've seen pink Space Wolves before, and they were awesome.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one? |
