Alright, so the point of a drop pod army is to be able to start anywhere you want on the board and to get your guys in bolter range fast, so I thought I'd hammer out a list that does the same thing a drop pod army would do, significantly cheaper and/or with more units.

Chapter Tactics: Imperial Fists (bolt weapons re-roll 1's, Dev and Cent Devs are tank hunters)

HQ:
Librarian- 65pts

Troops:
4x 10 man Bolter Scouts 1w/ heavy bolter- 118pts each
2x 5 man Sniper Scouts 1w/ missile launcher- 64pts each

Elites:
3x 5 man Legion of the Damned squad, combi-melta, meltagun, multi-melta- 150pts each

Fast Attack:
3x Skyhammer Storm Talons- 125 pts each

Heavy Support:
2x 7man Dev squads 4w/lascannons- 150pts

Pretty straight-forward, scouts the scouts as you would like them to be as if they were in a drop pod, wait for the skyhammers and LotD, and place the las devs where you need them to be, I dont own enough bolter scouts, otherwise I would try this list, thinking about running a proxy list though.

What do you all think?

Resin Printer (minaitures) is a 4K printer with one of the largest build volumes available for a resin printer (192mm x 120mm x 245mm) with an amazing .01mm resolution! This professional printer is one of the best resin printers on the market!

FDM Printer (terrain) also has one of the largest build volumes available for an FDM printer (400mm x 400mm x 450mm) and has an amazing ,05mm build accuracy.

It doesn't do what a drop pod list does. You've completely missed the point of a DP list. It is not about delivering boltguns into range. It is about guaranteeing the alphastrike (unless against another DP unit) by delivering power house short ranged shooting units into maximum threat range. Though interceptor has massively hurt that type of list it is only 1 army that has mass interceptor.

What you're doing is putting a bunch of squishy units with poor damage output into your opponents kill zone. Your scouts will not be able to do much damage and fight an entire army whilst your actual threat units wait in reserve. What if you go 2nd? Remember the point of the DP list is to not care who goes first or second because if you go second you have nothing on the board for your opponent to attack.

Also why on earth don't the LoTD have plasma and grav spam?? The whole reason to take them is to deal with Farsun bombs and O'Vesastars.

Also your devs are pointed wrong they are 178 for 7 men with 4 lascannons.

Your main issue is you're massively overestimating the rather lacklustre boltgun. All those scouts in rapid fire range would for instance kill less than 8 marines. Against a mech or horde list that's just going to get a whole lot worse for you.

Ya, I guess I am overestimating the power of the boltgun. My main list is a crimson fist drop pod list with scoring sterngaurd thanks to pedro (meltaguns and combi-melta's all around), so I guess with their special ammo and their melta, they are a lot better. I guess it just didn't click with me how much of a difference it is.

Yeah it is the combi weapons mostly and the special ammo secondly that really does the damage. The humble boltgun is pretty well humble...

You want a funny scout with boltgun list just have the wall of bolter scouts from DA codex with a banner of devastation within 6" of at least 1 model from each unit. You could theoretically have scouts with bolters and camo cloaks deploy against an aegis line with darkshrouds behind them and a banner of devastation in a raider to widen it's footprint. The scouts would have a 2+ cover save behind the wall and get 4 shots each at 24" with their bolters.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also line wouldn't have to start in your deployment zone since the scout have infiltrate and the shrouds have scout. Raider would have to spend a turn driving is the worst thing that would happen.
