Subject: Is the mark effect included in the profile? CSM

'lo there
I have been going through the CSM codex and am a bit confused about the way the marks work on guys like typhus and the plague marines.
It says that they are toughness 5 but they have the mark of nurgle so does that make them toughness 6? I was wondering the same with noise marines and initiative, as Fabius Bile has wargear that gives him +1 strength and +2 attacks and it states that it is included in his profile.
Thanks,

Going off of common sense, MoN is +1 T and Plagues have +1 T, MoS is +1 I and Noise Marines are +1 I... I'd say its included.
Then again, YMDC isn't famous for it's common sense.

If a model starts with something in their standard gear that has a static effect on their stats, such as mark of nurgle, then it's already added.

Chaos codex page 30; Marks of chaos, read the full paragraph where it is talking about purchasing marks; what you are looking for is there.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

I can not support the statement that the bonus from starting wargear is always added to the existing profile. There are a few situations where bonus granted via default wargear are not added to the profile. The most common of these is when it comes to models with two or more melee weapons. It is hard to argue that the profile for these models already include the bonus when the characteristic is the same as models with a single close combat weapon or even a 1 which is clearly not after modification. Just a little bit of Devils Advocate, as many times the wargear bonuses are already applied to the profile. Normally there is a sentence or two that clearly indicates when the wargear in question has been pre-applied. My advice would be to scan through the Mark of Chaos rules and see if such a sentence exists. Given the widely changing profiles between the pre-marked elite forces I would say such a line likely exists. Meh, I really should stop leaving these things open for half a hour then posting a reply as it means even overly loud Commissar's can ninja you....

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

Marks of Chaos are generally already included in the profile of the model. This is true for Typhus and Plague Marines. I can't think of any examples where they are not, but, hey, who knows.
Icons of Chaos add to that. It's important to remember when you take, say, an Icon of Excess and add an HQ to that unit, the HQ now benefits from it too. This is something people forget, and it can be important when you get buffs like FNP.
