I am not ashamed to admit that I'm a big fan of the CW series "Supernatural".

I think that it's an extremely well written series that incorporates so many differenent myths, folklore, religions, occult, and even urban legends and brings them to life--sometimes not in a way that you'd ever expect (anyone remember the god gathering at the motel, for example?).

I thought that I'd start a thread for anyone else who watches the series to discuss it.

Present episode:

http://www.cwtv.com/cw-video/supernatural/bad-boys/?play=0b5b07c5-1818-4b21-8ccf-9858ccb325cc

Spoiler:

I thought it was an interesting twist on their typical ghost hunt, especially after torching Timmy's poor action figure! I'd always thought about the possibility of a ghost actually being tied to a person, as opposed to an object and how they'd deal with that.

I think what was more interesting for me was the backstory on Dean, seeing him making the choice to leave at the end. Obviously it's because he felt the need to protect Sam....but after all they've been through together, I still haven't figured out why he feels the need to maintain the tough guy facade with Sam and lie about constantly wanting to leave there. Would it really kill him to admit that he was actually happy there?

What do you think of Abbadon?
-- Personally, I am in love with her! There is something so blatantly.....wicked...about her that draws me in. It almost makes me feel sorry for Crowley that he has to go up against her (almost).

Speaking of Crowley......

Spoiler:

When Sam saw him shooting up with the blood filled needle, my first thought was "He's a junkie for the blood! He really does like having some measure of humanity left!"

But then I got thinking.....

Was that Sam's blood still in the needle....or was it Kevin's? Because if it was Kevin's, then it wasn't purified through confession....so what good would it really do for Crowley to inject it?

Did anyone else notice if the other needles were empty in the case when they took them out (or when Sam looked through them?). I can't recall).

Do you really think the spell Metatron cast is indeed irreversible? What do you think is going to happen to the angels when they get killed by either the knife or the angel blade? Or what about banishing them? We've seen a few get banished already....but do you think they went back to Heaven?

How do you see this season/storyline play out?

I love the show, and that this season is going back to the formula of hunting, not saving the world from deamons and stuff. I felt the hunting of monsters is the best.
I dont like Abbadon. She just seems so stupid. We had the Devil who was just like her, Abbaddon is basically the devil over again.
I will say this, the constant "Leave and go live with a family" They found out over, and over, and OVER again it just doesnt work.
Now I lve crowly, he is just evil and lovable.

First four seasons = awesome.

Everything afterward I was increasing less interested in the show. The seasons kind of started repeating themselves. I liked the monster of the week episodes the most but those just seemed to fade away.

Haven't watched the last two seasons or so.

Some of the episodes though were so fun. The one where they go to a parallel reality where they're movie actors named Jensen Ackles and Jared Padaleki was hilarious.

Oh, I love Crowley too. I think Mark Sheppard does an absolutely fabulous job of being such an evil, unlikable a-hole that you really just can't help but like. Plus, I love what the writers have done for him over the years...he has so many great lines.

Kevin: “You tortured me.”
Crowley: “I torture all my friends. It’s how I show love. I was raised in a dysfunctional home environment.”

I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.

Crowley is my favourite character, a well written, pragmatic beauracrat out for himself and the integrity of his position and nothing else.

Oh hell yes, that parallel actors episode was incredible!

I read an interview where Misha was thinking about how incredibly douchey he could be in every way possible and then doing exactly that!

That had to be the best episode to make!

I lost touch with it for a couple seasons too (just after the Leviathans storyline end) and picked it up again. It was actually a nice break, as I too was a little burned out with saving the world (again, and again, and again) from so many uber-powered entities.

Yeah. Some of the episode you can tell the cast and crew were just having so much damn fun. The Ghost Chasers, the parallel reality episode, all the inside references to fandom in some of the episodes with that prophet guy.

Those are the gold medals indeed.

I love the subplot with the Supernatural books - the con and all that nonsense.

As far as the series overall - there's a part of me that wishes things had ended after season 5 - it would have been a fairly tight, cohesive series that ended perfectly.

But since then even if the season arcs haven't been as good - in my opinion - there have been plenty of amazing episodes. Things are somewhat improving - I thought seasons 6-7 were the worst of the series. I wish they would move away from the Angels stuff, though.

I would have had the Angel civil war in season 6 weaken their influence enough that all the old gods started coming out of the woodwork and gaining followers again/spreading chaos. And gone from there.

TBH I am just tired of Demons and the Kevin translating stuff to kill the demons. IT is super annoying TBH.
And Sam being in constant trouble.

As with most shows, you've gotta start "jumping the shark" a bit after running for so long.

I still think their doing alright, but I don't see it going on for to much longer.

Huge fan of the show though. Until GoT's starts up, it's the only one I'm watching.

They're actually planning on "spinning out" a new show from Supernatural, detailing hunters established in a single city rather than traveling the roads.

I like the show a lot. My GF turned me on to it and it's the first thing we play off the DVR on saturday. I started around season 4, but caught up on Netflix. I do like the earlier seasons better, but every show is like that. Right now I'm just waiting for the boys to find something to argue about to split up for 2 episodes, then brohug and make up after the mid-season break.. again.

Abbadon is OK, but I agree she's really not any different than other mean villans. I like crowley though. And, yeah I think he's injecting Sam's blood leftovers, cuz he wants to be good again or trying to become human or something. And they're playing off how Sam used to suck demon blood back in the day cuz it gave him awesome powers.. which was really a stupid thing to stop doing, because of said powers.

By the way he just vanished from in front of his computer, I always thought the first prophet was supposed to have been God in disguise. Then CW bought another season.

I think that's the popular insinuation. Given the importance placed on Prophets, and how one (Kevin) only becomes active at the death of the previous, it kinda bums me out that they didn't bother investigating or anything.

hmm .. I assumed the older prophet guy just poofed and went to heaven, like the rapture or whatever.

Then they were like.. "oops, new season.."

If it wasn't for this show, my GF still wouldn't know LARPing existed. Now she makes fun of me, even though I never did any of that...

Didn't it make him go a bit nuts though? Then again, it's been a while since I saw that season. That Demon killing power would have been mighty useful against Abbadon though...
