I'm thinking of getting into IG and I've found some lovely miniatures for the cannon fodder.

I'm not really sure what to do with the tanks. I'm not really sold on the leman russ.
Is there a way to make tanks be more "highlandy" ?(Perhaps a tad bit steampunky)
Ideas?

I'll chime in on the highland guard with these which you might be interested in. They're a lot more expensive but worth mentioning.

Could paint a tartan on the tanks, or on the lower half of the tanks ; p Have a bagpipe player sitting on top or in the hatch.

Those were sexy, perhaps as an elite unit.

The bagpiper on top is an easy enough idea. Suits the army as well, the voxes are gonna be bagpipers
Would this be something?

I have a unit of these guys getting commissioned as we speak. They are gonna fight alongside my praetorians. They are a very cool unit. From victoria miniatures.

I would love to see what those models you picked out look like. The models that Yonan posted are incredible. Great idea for a guard unit.

On the armor, I am not sure of a tartan splash across the tank. Perhaps paint the armor in a camouflage or solid color, but then add gear and bits to it to add the distinguishing highlander flavor to it. Make a large tartan unit flag hanging from the command tank, a piper sitting on the tank is a good idea, hang livestock from the sides, bags and kits draped across it etc. If you look at some WW1 or WW2 pictures it may help. I would use the infantry to set your army apart, and have the armor compliment it. This is just my opinion. Looking forward to seeing your army form up. Good luck.

Check out here as a starter on various real Scottish and highland regiments.

As part of the British army through all the years that tanks have existed, maybe see if there is a simple conversion that could be made to Chimeras or Russes to make them look a bit more like historical British tanks? If you're feeling more steampunky, then maybe pick up one of the really early cruiser or support tanks and add boilers and pistons
