You guys wanna see something? Bangarang. This is my still- WIP tau titan, based on a Metal Gear Rex model from Kotobukiya. There's more work to be done on it, adding some maneuvering thrusters and possibly wings or a tail. It still needs something, I think. Here are a couple more pics with one of my Broadsides for scale: It gets taller, as the joints are all articulated. Once I build the base and finalize the pose, they'll be glued in place. I suppose this also serves as a WIP shot of the broadside. Oh, and the eyes light up. I just need to attach the battery. As always, the full project log for my Dubstep Tau army can be found here: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?374513-Dubstep-Tau-(Pic-Heavy)

Titan?
Super Heavy, sure.....but Titan-class it is not.
Apart from that little nitpick, it looks awesome. Well done.

I did mention it gets taller, yes? This is actually its "squatting" pose. Works better for when I'm fiddling with the model and modding parts on it. It will gain another 2 inches in height, putting it just a smidge under the height of a Warhound. On top of that, it's going to have a pretty phat base with phat bass. You see, a Titan is just a showpiece on the shelf of most people who have one. This will also function as my room's stereo system, using bluetooth mini-speakers and destroyed Rhinos as bass chambers. Believe me, I've thought the size thing through.

That is a great use of the model the added weapons actually look pretty amazing. I have a rex model myself and it was probably the hardest model I have ever put together.

I would think their would be some kind of drones around it or that launch off it. This thing is EPIC!!! I am trying to figure out where you got the plastic, do you have a mold or something?

I do my best not to.

I've been thinking about drones as well and wondering where I could fit that in. It makes sense to me that a tau titan would be not only carrying, but perhaps manufacturing drones as well. Though maybe that would be better suited to a larger class of titan, sort of like how the Imperator has a cathedral on its back, the tau version would have a drone factory releasing clouds of the little buggers. Actually, the more I think about that type of unit, the more amazing it becomes.
As to where I got the plastic...huh? I'm not sure what you mean by that. If you mean where did I get the model itself, I ordered it online at HobbyLink Japan. $60 gets you a titan, but you need to do some modding.
That is a great use of the model the added weapons actually look pretty amazing. I have a rex model myself and it was probably the hardest model I have ever put together.
I know, right? I think we 40k modelers have a misconception that we're in the "advanced class" of model building. Those Japanese kits are brutal.

I love that model and have been considering trying to convert one into a tau titan for quite some time.
I will be following this thread and really look forward to your updates.
I am especially interested in just how tall it its standing at its full height (I was going to try and make one for a counts as wolfhound - my group is fine with counts as much more than making up our own rules).
thanks for sharing!

OP, can you show us how tall it is standing at height? Can you also possibly put infantry in the shot for reference? It will be easier to compare it to the FW dreads that way. Thanks!

To those asking about the height, I can't get any pics of it at full height just yet as I've partially disassembled it at the moment for wiring up the lights and such. I did however measure it and it comes to just a hair under 8 inches including the base it comes with.
The FW Warhound titan stands just under 10 inches, according to the website. So I will need to add an inch or so with the basing in order to get it into the "sweet spot" of height.
For those looking for titan alternatives, I would recommend browsing this website:
http://www.hlj.com/
They have a metric assload of figures and model kits from every anime ever, as well as some truly amazing Armored Core models. It was a tossup between Metal Gear, Nine Ball, and Noblesse Oblige for my tau titan, and I think I made the right choice. You might want to hunt around to find a shop with one of these in stock, too:
http://www.hlj.com/product/NEC35570/Act
Just sayin'.
Anyway, I'm always surprised that people don't follow the links I post in these threads to my Warseer log. I go through a lot of the process and theory and such there. And I tend to burn or stab myself every couple pages. Stabbed myself in the junk once, no lie.

That is an awesome model. It would be sweet if you could find a miniature "Snake" to put on the base or maybe a little cardboard box.

Actually, the model came with both Snakes, plus Grey Fox in normal and "stepped on by Metal Gear" versions. But they were 15mm scale. Actually, the whole cockpit was 15mm scale, which meant I had to gut it, hollow out big chunks of the structure and do a lot of cutting to get that 28mm model to fit in there. But there's definitely going to be a box involved somewhere on the base. It's mandatory at this point.

Frogress report. Since everyone's asking what it looks like standing up, and asking for scale pics with infantry and such, here you go. One of my Desert Pimp fire warriors will sub in for Snake in these pics:
You might notice a few minor aesthetic details added on at this point, aside from the lights being on. This series of pics also shows that the lights change colors over time. This is as tall as the model can reasonably get. I say reasonably because I could cheat an extra couple centimeters out of it, but it starts to look top-heavy and loses some of that predatory look that makes Rex so menacing.
And one from above for some reason.
