I just started look at Infinity and I've fallen head over heels for the minis. So against my better judgment I'm going to grab a 300pts Japanese army as well as a 300pts Shock Troopers of Acontecimento. These are just for fun until I can learn the rules and then I may get more models to make better lists. but as it stands what I'm getting is:
- Japanese Sectorial Army Set
- Kitsune Shinobu
- Yo-Yoroi
- Ninja with Multi Sniper Rifle
- Shock Troopers of Acontecimento Set
- Trauma Doc
- Guarda De Assalto
- Dragao
The Japanese have 15 more points but that shouldn't be too bad. But will these lists be good for learning the game?

If you want to learn the game, just start with the starter set and not with 300pts. To learn the rules even using the starter sets without looking at the points (i.e. WYSIWYG) should work fine.
Once you're past that, you can check more precicely on the detailed abilities and weapons. But 300pts is usually too much for the start.
Beasts of War posted two "Battle Box and beyond" videos on Infinity not so long ago. They could give you some help as well. Especially since one of them was on Acotecimento.

Doesn't look too bad to me; most complicated thing you have there I reckon is the Guarda de Assalto with its synchronisation.
pretty powerful forces anways
I suppose it would be a good idea to just use the starters first so you get the hang of the rules.

Too over zealous eh? I figured, but that's why I asked. Ok I'll just grab the two Starter sets to learn the rules. But I still need to get Shinobu Kitsune (cause that mini is what got me interested me in Infinity in the first place), and the Yo-Yoroi (cause it reminds me of the mecha from Appleseed and it is epic).

Oh God, not this again. If you have the mental faculties of a normal, high-functioning adult, and you don't mind a bit of a learning curve, those lists are fine to start with. I might add a pair of palbots to the ASA force but that's hardly an absolute necessity. aside from that, go for it IMO. It'll be a bit of a challenge learning to take out TAGs right off the bat but not impossible.

Check out Shae-Konnit's thread, he parcels out boxes and may have some palbots/be able to get that box in? edit: at the moment he has the palbot doctor and no palbots, but if you post in this thread he'll get back to you in it and you may be in luck http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/442723.page

Tbh by the time you get the doc and bots, the diff with just getting the entire support box is neglegible, and you kinda want to have the engineer as well so I'd just get the box, frankly.

TBH you can probably get away with using any 'little robot guy' miniature from across the range, they're all quite similar and your opponent will instantly know what it is. I've used Nomad slave bots for my Haqqislam as I like the miniature, but obviously painted to match the rest of my force, and don't think anyone has even noticed..

Looking at the ninjas, only the sniper seems to actually be holding a ranged weapon. The other ninjas just have their katana. Am I just supposed to remember what he has?
EDIT: Nevermind, they always have combi rifles unless they have a sniper rifle.

Infinity might as well be subtitled "Proxy Wars" because of how much proxying you have to do. There are many profiles which are missing models.
You get used to it over time though.

Theoretically, you can get "clean" weapon bits(no hands attached, no arms attached, etc) from the various SpecOps...but it is a lot of work to do any conversions with the way the models are sculpted.
In most cases the models have both hands attached to the weapons and at least one arm attached as well. You have to do some cutting and green stuff work to get things just right. It's much easier to just proxy until the actual profile gets released.

I don't think I'd go that far, or it is that bad but... I get your point.

Well aside from the whole "The ninja doesn't have a firearm" issue, all the units I really want have models :3

The ninja hacker comes with a loose combi rifle.
Several other figures in the range also come with a weapon that they aren't holding.
You can model it slung or something.

I haven't gotten many beyond Core rulebook models like that. It's not needed anyway. If every Ninja has a combi rifle, aside from the single profile with a sniper rifle, there's no reason to make sure the non-sniper models have a combi rifle. They can't not be armed with one, so it's basic unit profile knowledge, and if you face someone using a unit like that, simply ask. The only time it becomes a problem is when they get lazy and do 1 model in a 4 model pack with just a CCW, but with 2-3 missing profiles. It's obviously meant to be used to proxy, and if you have a few models like this in the list it gets hard for opponents to remember what is what.

That's a good general rule of thumb, it's very rare that you get any (humanoid style) unit that doesn't have some kind of basic ranged weapon. If it's one that is going to hurt you especially though, it will almost always be represented on the miniature.
