Ok so I was thinking of creating an anti serpent list and came up with the idea of giving the eldar opponent a dilema - whether to shoot the serp shields or keep them up. By including 3 fully geared full strength assault squads with meltas the idea is that the eldar player will need to drop the shields to avoid the marines getting into assault with melta bombs and krak granades (or just simple st5 attacks against rear armour) in combat. But if/when he does, there will be 3 deep striking dual multi melta speeders, a multi melta, assault cannon, missile launching raven and two st10 ordinance blasts to wipe them off the board. The problem the marines would have is the supporting squadrons of walkers and/or vypers just drowning them in scatter shots. Therefore a dropping furioso and 2 vindis are included to combat these squadrons and other support. If the serps drop shields to try and glance these to death, the aim has still been achieved. If the serps keep their shields up and the vindis and furioso do their job of decimating the squadrons, there shouldnt be enough fire power to prevent the marines (with fnp) from reaching their target and taking it down instead. A scout sniper squad on adl with comms is included for back field scoring, but more importantly, to ensure the speeders and raven make the impact when needed. The tactic becomes more difficult when a wraithknight is plonked down but there should be enough high strength low ap shots to worry it.
The list is all about synergy, directed particulary against serp spam. To breakdown:- If the opponent focuses on the assault squads, there is enough in range melta and ordinance to break their backs, if they don't shoot their shields then there shouldnt be enough shots to prevent the assault squads from wrecking them in combat.
Do you think this will work (even with an over costed dex)?

Libby
Jp, force axe
Sword/ shield (st10 sword, on ap2 axe will also wreck serps in combat)

Elites
2 sanguinary priests
Jps, mbs

Furioso
Frag cannon, melta gun, magna grapple
Pod (beauty against squadrons)

Troops
10 man assault squad (x3)
2 melta guns, mbs on sarge.

5 man scout squad
Snipers, cloaks (giving the opponent even more reason to shoot shields)

Fast attack
1 landspeeder (x3)
2 multi meltas
(Deep stiking)

Heavy support
Vindicator

Vindicator

Raven
Tl multi melta, tl assault cannon.

Fortifications
Adl with comms

1995pts
May give the scout sarge mbs in case a serp flys to my side of the board to escape the assault squads, will probably be overlooked by the opponent for a nasty surprise (what else am I to do with 5pts?)
What could be done to increase the effectiveness without damaging the synergy?

drop the scouts for power fists on the priests. (or axes, since its a anti WS list go axes, and power mauls/axes on your sarge)

Umm all you heavy hitting is 24" range max while serpents are min range of 36".

IMO buy drop pods with marines with meltas in them,
drop pod BEHIND the serpents where they can't use shields,
and murder them first turn.

Good ideas guys. But both ideas mess with the plan/synergy.
Although I had thought about drop pods. The issues are that 1.) If i fail to take them down I will never catch them. 2.) By arriving piecemeal, it doesnt force my opponents to have to use his shields which is the aim and 3.) With jp that melta will be in range very quickly anyway. This is more of a turn 2 overload rather than an alpha strike.
If I drop the scouts, whos manning the essential comms?

You know the easiest way to beat serpent spam is with hydras. I know they are ig but 4 tl str 7 shots that ignore cover for skimmers is unreal, you could try allying some in?

I am not familiar with hydra rules. So they ignore the serpents 4+ cover? If not shooting at skimmers or flyers, do they snap fire? Also, what is their front armour value?

If the don't shoot at flyers/fmc/or skimmers then they snap fire, the front armour is 12. They ignore their jink save. This means that they rule against all eldar vehicles, all tau, majority of necron, and so on.

Ahhh excellent. Is it just jink they ignore? Would holofields still give a 6+ or 3+/4+ if in cover?
Cheers for the info. Ive extensively read my mates guard codex but there are a few units i didnt focus on, such as the hydra.

The Hydra's do ignore jink cover saves but snap fire at everything that is not a flyer. So is terrible against WS. If it could choose to use the skyfire rule then they would be good but hydra's don't get the choice.
