So, GW has discovered even more "fun" supplement options. Forget just having variant lists, now we get unbalanced new units that break the fundamental rules of the FOC. And remember all those criticisms of FW rules? Well, these new supplements are guilty of all of them. Extra books to keep track of? Check. Some armies get powerful stuff while others get nothing? Check. Extra money to spend? Check. Clearly additional content that adds to a codex army? Check. Seems like a pretty good comparison I think. So what will you do with these new "books"?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Updating rules for units in various books? Un-check....
Adding a vast quantity of new units(by new I mean that players not using them have not seen/dealt with)? Un-check

Beyond that though it will probably be at some are allowed and some are not. I highly doubt most tournaments will be going in on super heavies and apoc formations...while books like farsight are already used and introduce little in the way of new rules.

The answer for me is different depending on the event, in part due to trying to tie Forgeworld to the question. /Abstain

The annual event I run allowed Forge world from the beginning, so that won't change! however with all this new stuff coming out over christmas I'm going to have to do some serious thinking with what to so with it all. I'm thinking of just limiting armies to Primary and Allies so stuff like the new allied formations can't be added in. I'll have to wait out December first though, to see what else comes out.

I think the problem with this debate is that what GW gives us isn't really relevant. Community consensus drives what is legal and what isn't. GW could come out and claim that the game is intended to be played in pants and not shorts. Would players be as dogmatic as to actually follow that?

I understand that my example is a hyperbole, but the point remains--the community is just as (if not more) responsible for what is acceptable in game than the actual developers. Ever play a video game competitively? You can bet that TOs changed the rules, weapons, and options. Ever play a sport competitively? Playing varsity football is alot different than a pick up game with some friends.

I understand that Forgeworld's legality is your crusade. I understand that it appears that GW intends Forgeworld to be legal in all games of 40k. However, this isn't really relevant. If players want it, they will demand it. If they don't, you won't see it. The same will be said of the additional supplements that GW is putting out. I strongly doubt that major tournies will allow formations. We shall see what Super Heavies and the additional fortifications are like soon enough.

At the end of the day, I don't really think how one feels about Supplements has to impact how they feel about Forgeworld, or vice-versa. Everything should be analyzed according to what it is. No need to put people in a corner in which they have to be pro opening the floodgates or pro sealing them shut. And to head off other arguments, I would not be against banning or tweaking certain units in existing codices, as there are bad things that come from them too. Hell, we already have events come up with new scenarios. Would it be that bad if the 2+ re-roll was house-ruled into a max of a 3+? Would making the Serpent Shield D3+1 shots really stop people from coming to events? Just my two cents.

I think if a TO were to change the basic rules for a specific unit to tone it down that would drive away a lot of people - more so for a popular codex.

Ive been on the fence since the start of 6th over banning allies because of the potential stupid combos that can arise, and after playing at Da Boyz GT Ive decided Im going to run an event free of allies, FW, supplements and formations.

It stops becoming skillful and becomes more about derpy hooting. Plenty of that in the overflowing goob pits most places are these days. Trying to get a decent game in is getting harder.

Its eventually going to come down to TOs having to make a list for each codex of banned units ex: 0-1 farseers and 0-5 warlocks may take jetibkes etc.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

You have got to admit it's pretty funny when some peoples best arguments against something go by the wayside when the ground shifts underneath them...

Good job there GW......

If I was vain I would list stuff to make me sound good here. I decline. It's just a game after all.

House Rule -A common use of the term is to signify a deviation of game play from the official rules.

Do you allow Forgeworld 40k approved models and armies?

They already have something in the same breed of animal, the indy FAQs and stuff like that (non-GW FAQs). Not really changing the rules, such as making the serpent shield D3+1 instead of D6+1, but some of them have their own house rules. For example: one says fiends of slaanesh have a base -1 LD for a 12" bubble no matter how many, yet others have it as -1LD for EACH fiend. It depends on where you play what "house rulings" apply.

I don't host events, but the latest supplement releases have me thinking about pushing for a "single codex" event: no allies, no supplements, etc. If it isn't in your codex, then it isn't legal.

It's enough that we have to deal with >10 races worth of codices to understand the rules. Now I need to buy 100 IA books and supplements? No thanks.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

I think hosting a super heavy tournament would be fun. Ive taken place in one in the past and it was a blast. My Warhound Titan wasnt built for cheese and died every game but it was a lot of fun. Melta guns everywhere.

GW produces codices, expansions, supplements, FW stuff, e-books, e-rules with the obvious intent that we use them.

My store has a policy apparently, hardback only. No digital anything. Reasoning behind this" too easy to change stuff" so I've avoided all events they host since my sisters went digital only. Really wish it would change. I love playing there. But invalidating my sisters army to casual only games really puts me off.

Right...this is pretty hard to dispute. But again, why does that matter?
