I don't know if this is the right place, but here goes
I'm getting a 500 pt army for Christmas but I don't know wether to choose DA (mainly ravenwing) or biel- tan eldar.
Tips in what to get for each army would be appreciate. ( I don't want a fully competitive list, but I don't want to lose all the time either)
I know it's hard for you guys to pick for me, but I really can't make up my mind,
Thanks

First of all, welcome to Dakkadakka!
A tough decision, since I like both of them... (Biel-Tan player myself with obsession to SM bikes )
Do you have experience of the game? Any other armies?
Ravenwing might be my choice but they truly suck at 500p because you need a 200p character for them. If you intend to expand your army to 1000 points RW can be rewarding and more forgiving to new players, but Eldar are better (competitively) at almost all aspects and can make more of an auto-win lists. Automatically Appended Next Post: 500p example lists for both (don't remember exact points so this is a bit of guessing):
Farseer
9x Dire Avengers
- Exarch with Shimmershield
10x Guardians
- Bright Lance
2x War Walkers
- 2x Scatter Laser//Scatter Laser and Starcannon

Sammael
5 Ravenwing Bikes + Attack Bike
- 2 Plasma Guns
5 Tactical Marines
- Plasma/Lascannon

My advice is to get Ravenwing, but until you have enough to play games of at least 1000 points, field them as Codex: Space Marines using a captain on bike as your HQ and White Scar chapter tactics. You still get the scoring bikes, but you have enough points to take some fun stuff.

I would say eldar. While DA are an OK army, they suffer from singular paths of building the army to have it play well. While this will be fun for a while, i find it gets boring to play the same army repeatedly. Eldar gives a lot more flexibility to play a dozen different ways.
For eldar, you want something like this for your basic list:
Autarch on Jetbike with fusion gun and laser lance
10x guardians with starcannon
3x windrider jetbikes with cannon
3x windrider jetbikes with cannon
War Walker with 2x brightlance
3x support weapon battery with shadow weavers
All of those models will be used in competitive lists and all of them work well at both lower point values and higher. It avoids the cheese of "everyone in a wave serpent" which is a very boring army to play and play against, but will help you learn how to play eldar.

I have experience with vanilla marines and a little dark eldar (this Is limited though).
I'm swayed towards ravenwing and am thinking of getting the battlefield and one ( or two ) other sets.
What should I get?
And, is there anything really bad about ravenwing?
Thanks
PS I don't want to use them as codex SM because I only want to buy 1 codex.
PPs I'm going to use the land speeder in the battleforce for Sammaels sableclaw if I get said battlefield. Automatically Appended Next Post: Not battlefield, battleforce

If you want to go ravenwing which is fine. Don't put Sammie in a speeder. It's a waste and not good.
Get 2 battle forces and Sammael to start with and run the speeders as a separate unit of typhoons. It's basic but the best way to start. You'll then want a command squad on bikes with the banner of devastation. Then you add as you feel necessary.

I just converted one of the speeders into a Jetbike "counts as" Sammael. I lowered the flying stand and added an underslung Plasma Cannon and rail mounted Storm Bolter to the second marine.
Blinged it up with the Ravenwing accessory sprue and called it a day.
You might want to consider DV bikes from Ebay for your starting purchases. They come with a Plasma gun which is a nice bonus too.
