Subject: What was 3rd edition called?

I was just wondering. What the scenario was called for the 40k 3rd edition box set? For example:
6th = Dark Vengeance (DA vs CSM)
5th = Assault on Black Reach (Ultramarines vs Orks)
4th = Battle for Macragge (Ultramarines vs Nids)
2nd = The Battle for Armageddon (Blood Angels vs Orks)
RT didn't really have a box set, but did have the Rynn's World Campaign (Crimson Fists vs Orks)
But what was 3rd? I know it featured BT and DE, but I quit playing before it came out, and didn't return until 5th when it was old news, so I don't really know much about it. I had a search around on Lexicanium and Wikipedia but they don't seem to mention the name of the scenario. I figured someone here must know?

It doesn't appear to have had a name. At least not on the front cover.

Well, we know one thing for sure: there definitely was Space Marines involved. We probably knew that already though...

I did some searching and it would seem that there is no name for it. Wikipedia, who had the name for the other starter sets, didnt give a name for it.
I could be wrong of course.

Hmm, 2nd edition didn't have a name on the box either...
And the picture on the back doesn't seem to include the campaign book or the army list book. (Perhaps because they were cheaper prints than the colour books)
But it certainly was based around the battle for Armageddon. The miniatures, the painting guide, even the box art...
Did 3rd ed just not have any getting started scenarios?

From memory, no. It had the glossy 'how to play' booklet that they used to also hand out in stores, but I don't remember it having any starter scenarios.

Mine came with the rulebook (full one), so whilst it didn't have a name for the box, it DID have scenarios - it's just that they were the standard ones for the 3rd edition rulebook.

Which was quite a comprehensive list - I'm always a bit sad that the variety of missions included didn't make it into any further publications.

2nd Edition came with a Black and white book called "Battle for Armageddon" or something along those lines iirc.
3rd must've had one as well.
3rd had to have mini codex for all armies because they didn't just cnp stats from 2nd edition like 4th, 5th and 6th did.

I agree with this totally. What happened to all the missions like Blitz and Recon at the back of the 40k book?
They were great missions to play, especially the one that had the random objective which both armies had to look for.

The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

For what it's worth, I just dredged up the old "read me first" pamphlet that came with the 3rd ed box. It helps teach you the rules by setting a DE and a SM 18" apart and walking you through the different phases of the game. No fluff, just a simple how-to. 3/8 pages showing how a marine kills a lone dark elder warrior, and then 5 on how to assemble the contents of the box.
Gah, I'm such a packrat. This glimpse into history brought to you buy the clutter in my basement.

Thread highjack, but does anyone have a 3rd edition box set they'd be willing to sell? Preferably with all the stuff still with it. Will pay handsomely.
