Does the BRB have any info on this?

Let's say it is players 1 and 2 against players 3 and 4.

Do you play it as player 1 move, shoot, charge, followerd by player 2 move, shoot, charge, then player 3 move, shoot, charge and finally player 4 move, shoot, charge?

Or do you play it as player 1 move, player 2 move, player 1 shoot, player 2 shoot, player 1 charge, player 2 charge, then player 3 move, player 4 move, player 3 shoot, player 4 shoot, player 3 charge, and finally player 4 charge?

In a 2v2 you would have players 1+2 move, shoot, assault all the same turn, then 3+4 move, shoot, assault all in the same turn.

6th edition kind of facilitates these sorts of match-ups, since you can either use the allies rules as-is or just a minor variation (e.g. each ally gets a full FOC).

Personally I use the two headed giant method of 2 vs 2 combat because it is the easiest to explain and it seems to allow thins to flow a lot easier. That is the standard 'player 1 and 2 move during the same phase rules' that you would expect. The only thing you have to discuss before hand is if you want to use the allied table for interaction between the two players armies or if you want to simply treat them as completely separate for all purposes. There are also a few other things to keep in mind if you play certain armies, like how the Necron's "enemy units hit" ability would work with the second players army. In any case, your in uncharted waters anyway so you would need to discuss it out but it is a very interesting game mode.

you treat the teams as if they are a single player following the rules for allies with one of the players on each team being elected the 'warlord'.

all interactions between the two armies follow the rules for allies.

this method is both encouraged and scales.

I play these games most weeks. we just play the turn for each side but otherwise regards the 4 armies as basically independent with their own warlord. It works well but then all our games are friendlies.

Though, in a thought: 'Two Headed Giant' would work very very well with kill team Rules. You could even go for some very interesting story based combat situations with mixture of players and factions, on the right sort of boards. Three on Three, Two on One, Two on Two on Two, lot of different possibilities. The combination of many factions using the faster based rules for 200 maximum armies does seem appealing. Still, uncharted waters so you should discuss these things before the game with all the people involved.
