So... I just finished up playing in a tournament today.

At the time, I didn't think much of it... but, I'm not sure if this is right.

He had a Skyray I think it's called (looks like hammerhead with missle rack on top) that shot it's Marker light at my flying Helldrake.

He then used the Marker lights on the broadside to bump up their BS from 1 (snapfire) to 3 when shooting at my Helldrake.

Could he do that?

Yes, Tau Markerlights have permission to buff snapshots (while remaining a snapshot). This is a very common tactic for Tau players.

He still had to roll 6+ to hit with the marker lights themselves but the tokens a hit generates can be used as described.

@DJGietzen
Not from a Skyray, they have Velocity Trackers, which allow them to choose if they want to use Skyfire.

They are even networked, so they benefit from their own marker light hits.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

On most of his markerlight options, yes. However, the skyray has the option of firing skyfire, as it is an air defense tank.

The shots are still snap fire, so no precision, and no templates/blasts, but they can be raised above BS1.

What is even better is when you get across the board and try and assault a simple fire warrior squad or some such that is close enough for a markerlight team to assist. Then suddenly everyone is snap firing at the poor squad with higher BS for every hit.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!
