A little introduction is in order. Iv been a GW gamer seance the beginning of 3rd edition. Have been a GW model painter seance I got my first random Ork model when I was 10. I played Deathwing all the way through 4th then dropped out of the hobby till just recently with our current edition. I attempted to build a list like this with the old tau codex but the synergy just wasn't there, not like with our current dex. With that said I finally had the basis to build the army I wanted.

I have a great many friends in the armed forces, or have already served. A good few of those friends I met through 40k. Some of those friends never came home from the "sand box" over seas. So I decided to do a tribute army. Based on primarily Tau infantry. I still have a lot of work ahead of me but here is a teaser for what's to come. For the paint I went with a ODST kind of look.

First I just want to say thanks for your service.

Second, I really like the paint job. I love how the shield is a huge contrast from the rest of the Riptide.

My oooooonly criticism is that you need to work on the modeling a bit. The gun for example, has very obvious mold lines and the part that connects to the sprue wasn't shaved/cut down, it's still very visible. There also appears to be some major glue damage to the (our) right leg in the image where the foot connects to the leg.

I only say this stuff on high quality jobs because the painting is superb, the modeling needs to match it. I look forward to seeing the rest.

No your totally right, I could have done a lot better on hiding my mold lines. This was the fist model I assembled for the army and the first in almost 2 years. The rest I payed closer attention to. Just not posting pics till there painted. I didn't serve btw, my friends did. And that's why I painted the riptide shields up as a yellow support ribbons. Still working on the other Rip. Still trying to decide on the pose.

Looking good so far. As already stated, the glue damage and the mold lines, but for the first model in a couple of years, I'd say they both look awesome. I do like the support ribbon shield. Its subtle.

Nice going so far, but I think you need a bit of highlight along some edges to make the shape of the model pop. Right now it kind of jumbles together. overall, though, I like where the color scheme is going.

Again I took y'all's advice and ran with it. Added brighter areas, removed mold lines yada yada..

Best I could do since they don't have an orkmoticon of a salute.
(I know you didn't serve.)
Awesome job and idea, executed very clean. I love armies that have a theme, be it fluff/cause/or creativity, it always adds so much more to the models. Keep up the good work.

Great tribute and well done for doing it.

As for the models, I like how the yellow is so bold against the more military style body of the riptide and I think the pose he is in is really nice.

Really good work, great story, well painted minis, lovely base too. Nice work

His points cost is stupid high but I am running Aun'Shi for fluff reasons. I decided to put him in armor to represent his 4+ inv save.
