New Jersey...The other end of the warp.

Looking for some feedback on a list for an upcoming tournament (1K points) at the FLGS... so far I have

Sammael (in sableclaw)

Ravenwing Command Squad
3x black knights
- Grenade launcher
- Champion upgrade

2x Ravenwing Attack Squad
3x bikes per squad
- 1 Plasmagun per squad

2x Tactical Squad
10 marines per squad
- Plasmagun / PC each squad

Predator
Autocannon / Lascannon Sponsons

So far, Bikes to run smaller units around...tac squads to hold objectives....Pred / Sam to draw fire + Kill larger threats.

Any suggestions are super appreciated.

Internet opinion is that Sammael on Jetbike is better than the Land Speeder, as he looses the ability to smack down in CC, for the gain of a little firepower and (debatable) survivability. But that depends if you already have the model I suppose.

I never think much of non-DW company champions, Unwieldy is too much of a drawback for a model without a decent Invul.

As far as Sammael, 1) I only have the speeder...2) So far, he has been played at long range. With Corvex, I would have lost tonight's game hands down. 7 BS5 Twin linked shots is good output...output I sorely needed.

With regards to the champion upgrade: It's 5 points....is it better to just run him without it? The AP3 helped a bit this evening.

Played the list tonight with a friend (Blood Angels). After determining a good play style, I made a few changes:

Sammael (in sableclaw)

Ravenwing Command Squad
3x black knights
- Grenade launcher
- Champion upgrade

2x Ravenwing Attack Squad
3x bikes per squad
- 1 Plasmagun per squad

1x Tactical Squad
10 marines
- Plasmagun / Heavy bolter each squad

Devastator Squad
2x Lascannons / 2x Missile Launcher w/Flakk


Predator
Lascannon / Lascannon Sponsons

I initially started my game off with the first list by splitting the two tac squads into combat squads....Missile launchers got parked in the back and fired all game, whilst the tac squads went in to fight closer. Does the devastator squad seem like a better idea?

As others have stated Sammael is significantly better on the bike. More survivable, more damage output and can join units and tank wounds for them.

I'd add the 2 extra Black Knights to the command squad. Personally I'd also add a Libby and a Techmarine chuck Sammie in there and you've a serious death star for 1k. The Champion is terrible unwieldy is bad enough but that you're giving up the Corvus hammer is unforgivable. Any MEQ unit will be dead anyway between plasma and the 4 S5 rending attacks each model has which go first and hit on 3s due to the stasis bomb you've just dropped on him.

You can take more weapons on the Ravenwing squad so you should. Melta is by far the best bet. Plasma is a big no no as a plasma carrying Ravenwing is the same points as a Black Knight!!!! So take the Black Knight instead, indeed a black knight in a command squad is 2 points cheaper!

Tac squads are poor unless you're doing something funky with the dakka banner. Drop them.

Pred needs a buddy and Devs aren't really worth it. Flakk is a poor option as you have no interceptor and no body bags so a flyer comes on and kills your Devs who are now just 20 points more than they should have been. A 2nd Pred will do more for you.
