I've just finished reading the Eisenhorn trilogy, which i read after reading the Ciaphias Cain books which i read after reading some of the First and Only books and I've enjoyed each and everyone in it's own way. This made me think that it's not the Mary Sue Bolter Pornstar marines that deserve all this attention, but the bad ass normal humans who do incredible things in a universe of impossible danger. The likes of Hector Rex facing down Angrath, or Malcador sitting upon the Golden Throne. Amazing feats preformed by amazingly human characters, but who do you think is the coolest? Who's stories do you most enjoy and who can you sympathize with? I would personally choose Eisenhorn for likability, his slow decent into radicalism was an amazing read and it included awesome ideas, while for badassery i would choose Hector Rex for facing down a FETHING Daemon Lord!

Who will you choose?

No love for Solomon Loc? Took down a Bio Titan like a boss y'know...

I went Hector Rex because he, too, is a badass.

The Garantine was awesome, but I'd say he'd fall more into "post-human", I actually really like Ravenor - Eisenhorn is more badass, however.

I'd also put up Varl from Gaunt's Ghosts, he's pretty damn cool.

Malcador. Arguably one of the most influential humans in Imperial history given his role in not only establishing Adeptus Terra but also the start of the Inquisition and Grey Knights.

It's also quite awesome to see a small advisor held with such high esteem by the Emperor in his court in contrast to the genetic powerhouses of the Primarchs and Custodes. Wish we could see more of his psychic prowess in action because so far we only know he's a potent telepath and has some measure of telekinesis as well.

Ollanius Pius.

From 1D4Chan (hopefully the swearing filter catches everything) - "He's spent months fighting a grueling war in which his enemies are demigods allied with daemons, and now he's found himself in the closest thing to Hell he's ever known. He probably wasn't even supposed to get teleported up to the arch-traitor's battle barge in the first place, and just ended up in the wrong place at the worst possible time.
Somehow he's survived horrors beyond comprehension to make his way to the very bridge of Horus' flagship. He saw a veritable angel call upon Horus to answer for his crimes, and he saw that angel die as messily as any guardsman. His Emperor - who he fervently believes is a god incarnate, even if he's not supposed to - lies mortally wounded, and Horus, perhaps, has taken a moment to gloat before he strikes the killing blow.
His armor is slightly more effective than tissue paper, his weapon slightly more powerful than a flashlight. A single electrified claw from Horus' weapon is bigger than his entire body. He stands before a being infused by the dark gods' with incalculable power, that can and will obliterate his soul with no more effort than it would take him to swat a gnat. Nothing he can do could possibly make a difference.
He could run. He could turn his weapon on himself. He could give in to the insidious whispers that echo from the ship's corridors into his mind.
Ollanius Pius does the duty his Emperor requires of him. He dies standing and holds the fething line."

Septimus had my initial vote, but I'd have to have Hound in the running too. Dude's just a degenerate slave, not even cool enough to be a personal slave for one of the Night Lords, but he threatened one of them at shotgun-point without flinching. Hound had a clarity of focus, a kind of simplicity, that I admire. He'd have unloaded two barrels of buckshot into the Emperor himself if the Big E was threatening Octavia. Even Talos backed up his claim to have killed one of those crazy Nostraman lions. A definite pick for 'awesomest guy who isn't a marine.' Certainly in my top 5.

Welcome to the Freakshow!

No love for Marbo? Lol ok his fluff does kinda suck.

Eisenhorn and Ravenor are pretty bad ass as BL inquisitors but think Rex and Coteaz are pretty awesome. And you got to love Mkoll and Ven from the Ghosts.
