Hello all. Thought I would share my first attempt at a Battle Report. Small, "non-competitive" lists. Just wanted to take some pics and as Gee dub says, forge that sweet ass narrative. PS. the pics are not great. Codex; Space Marines vs. Codex; Dark Eldar. 1150 (I know its a random number but its what we had painted) On the dusty, arid planes of a former Imperial agri-world, forces of the Adeptus Astartes Imperial Specters chapter engage Eldar Pirates belonging to the Kabal of the Shrouded Dagger. Marines. Librarian (rites of war, psychic shriek) 10 Tactical Marines (missile launcher, flamer, power fist, rhino) 5 Tactical Marines (lascannon, razorback with twin linked lascannon) 5 Assault Marines (flamer, thunder hammer) 5 Assault Terminators (4 thunderhammer and storm shield) Stormraven Gunship Vindicator Dark Eldar. Combat Drugs: Painbringer (reroll wounds) Archon (shadow field, combat drugs, agonizer, inspiring presence) 5 Warriors (sybarite, agonizer, blaster, venom dual splinter cannon) 5 Warriors (blaster, venom dual splinter cannon) 5 Wyches (venom, dual splinter cannon, haywire grenades 9 Wyches (hekatrix, agonizer, raider, haywire grenades) 10 Wyches (hekatrix, agonizer, raider, haywire grenades) Ravager (3 dark lances) Ravager (3 disintegrator cannons) Ok, If I knew how to put pictures in other than as attachments I would just do this all at once. But because I am semi computer illiterate I am just going to post these one at a time.

Deployment
Vanguard Strike. Crusade
d3+2 objectives. The result is 3. The Astartes place two of the 3 on a hill overlooking the valley below. Dark Eldar place the other in the outskirts of a ruined town..
Librarian Vespasian halts his combat patrol on the edge of a gently sloping hillside, closes his eyes, and immerses himself in warp tinged concentration. An image of sleek black anti grav craft bursts into his mind's eye, slipping away as abruptly as it had entered. We go firm here. Raise air support on the battle network and prepare to receive the enemy. From the ruins across the valley, the Librarian's premonition becomes reality. A cadre of arrow like attack craft emerges, aggressively advancing on the Astartes position.
Space Marines got lucky with the objectives, enabling them to build an effective firebase on top of the hill. The Dark Eldar will have to take the fight to the enemy across a large swath of exposed ground. The tactical squad combat squads, one half staying inside the rhino while the other takes position behind an outcrop close to the second objective. The heavily armoured Vindicator and Terminators deploy forward of the main firing positions hoping to intercept any serious threats that come close to the firing line. The empty razor back sets up to the rear, hoping to take advantage of the long range of the lascannon, while the assault Marines grab the rearmost position ready to launch a counter attack if the Eldar reach the tactical squads.
Dark Eldar deploy in the ruins and out of range of the Vindicator. They immediately drop a venom squad on the objective, knowing that they are safer in the ruins than in the armour 10 attack craft. Nothing has been left in reserve

Turn 1: Space Marines
Dark Eldar attempt to seize. 5. Better luck next time.
The warriors of The Imperial Specters open fire on the arrogant xenos with long range laser weaponry and missiles.
Holding fast on their hilltop position, all units of Marines begin fire on the exposed venoms at the front of the formation. Between failed hits and jink saves, the venoms go unscaythed until the twinlinked lasconnon on the razor back slices through the hull of a venom transporting Kabalite warriors. The result is a 5+open topped+ap 2 =BOOM. Two warriors are consumed in the explosion.
Turn 1: Dark Eldar
The Kabal moves at lightning speed toward the filthy Monkeigh.
Ravagers move out from the ruins to put the Terminators within 36" range.
Raiders full of Wyches race to the front moving 12" in the movement phase and another 18" flat out in the shooting
Venoms edge forward and release a torrent of splinter cannon fire on the Terminators, hoping to force a failed save through volume of fire. Nothing.
Disintegrator Ravager kills a terminator with a pummeling array of plasma blasts while the other Ravager with 3 Dark lances glances the Vindicator.

Turn 2: Space Marines The Stormraven gunship arrives on station and checks in with command. The Vindicator moves backward a few inches to clear its firing arc from the encroaching aliens. The jump pack equipped assault marines edge forward behind the razorback, eager to lend their muscle to the fight. The Stormraven uploads target priority data from the Librarian in the razorback. It launches two missiles at the Dark Lance Ravager, one glancing and one penetrating with a measly one on the table. The ravager is stunned. The Stormraven's twin linked lascannon uses power of the machine spirit to reach out and touch the Disintegrator Ravager, ripping it open with a thunderous explosion. The Vindicator lets loose an enormous artillery shell, hitting a raider but failing to get past its flat out 4+ jink All remaining shooting is ineffective Turn 2: Dark Eldar Raiders move 6" toward the Assault terminators, readying their gladiatorial passengers to leap into combat. Venoms move 12" forward in an aerial assault on the combat squad with the missile launcher sheltering behind the rocky outcrop. In a hail of poisonous splinter ammo (19 out of 24 hit to be exact) the two venoms cause a lovely 12 wounds on the combat squad who fail 6 and are wiped off the board. As the first raider unloads the Archon and 9 wyches to attack the Terminators, the second Raider speeds forward at a flat out pace to search for its own prey. The Archon and his Wyches make a disorder charge against the Terminator with 2 Wyches sent to Haywire grenade the glanced Vindicator and the rest charging the Terminators. The haywire grenades glance the tank to death, while the Archon launches a dazzling 7 agonizer attacks at initiative 7 at the Terminators. 5 hits, 4 wounds with the reroll (combat drugs). All saved at a 2+. The Wyches, including the Hekatirx are equally ineffective. The Terminators pile in and squish 2 Wyches....leadership is passed and they continue.

Mid game casualty report
Space Marines:
Vindicator
1 Assault Terminator
Combat squad with missile launcher
Dark Eldar:
Venom
2 Warriors
2 Ravagers
2 Wyches
Turn 3: Space Marines
The stormraven hurtles forward, target locking on a pair of venoms in its forward arc, while the rest of 2nd company stand fast.
The gunship fires its nose melta, missing on double 2's...but crunches another venom exploding it with its twin linked lascannnon (the passengers were not aboard)
The shooting phase ends with the lascannon combat squad perched on the second floor, exploding the silly aider that broke off from the pack. only 4 Wyches embarked survive the explosion.
The assault Marines see their opportunity and pounce on the dazed Wyches, killing them off with Hammer of Wrath attacks alone! (that was pretty gnarly. I like that new rule)
The fight between the Archon and the veteran of the first company continues.
The Dark Eldar do ZERO wounds.
Terminators squish 4 Wyches, prompting the Archon to take a LD test on a 6. Failed. he breaks and runs back toward the ruins with the upmost speed of a slimy alien backstabber.
Turn 3: Dark Eldar
The surving raider sees the unfortunate plight of its brethren and speeds off in search of linebreaker.
The last venom moves forward and slays 2 assault Marines with its dual splinter cannon.
The Dark Lance Ravager claims another 2. causing the last marine to flee 3d6.

Turn 4: Space Marines
The stormraven slows its trajectory and enters hover mode, slowly rotating to explode the last two remaining Dark Eldar vehicles (killing the last of the Wyches embarked on the Venom). The lascannon combat squad snipes the last raider attempting linebreaker.
The rhino moves around and drops a full combat squad on the unclaimed objective.
The Archon continues to fall back, disappearing into the dark ruins of the town.
All that is left is 8 Kabalite Warriors, sheltering in ruins halfway across the battlefield.
As the Imperial Specters regroup to advance on the remaining Eldar Pirates, Librarian Vespasian opens a vox channel and halts the pursuit. Their transports are crushed and their cowardly brethren have abandoned them. They have no means to reenter the webway. Let them rot in real space. I can hear a nightmare waiting to claim their souls.

Conclusion.
Fun, small game..
I think I took the DE glass hammer and smashed my thumb with it. Exploding raiders kill Wyches faster than bolters. To0 bad you cant assault from webway. Not sure how to remedy this problem other than bring more shooting. I don't really care to spam 10 venoms. Boring. Also I learned agonizer no longer kill Terminators! Keep forgetting power weapons are AP 3.
Marines had a good position and some fairly good shooting. Stormraven was certainly MVP.
Again fun game. I plan to get some more painted to round it out to1500. DE probably don't do well at small points. I like 6th edition. Find the right people and I think its one of the best editions yet. Find the wrong ones however.....Also, haywire are great in an edition of 3 HP glance to death. I guess the problems is getting them there though.
Let me know if you enjoyed it. This was my first foray into Batreps. I'd really like to up the production value and make some nice stuff. There is a guy on you tube that kinda inspired me to do this. I think his user name is strikingscorpian42? not sure. Bristish guy who does awesome HD video Batreps.
And Finally: The Archon of the Kabal of the Shrouded Dagger slunk into the ruins on the edge of the battle field and slipped into the basement of an abandoned homestead. With the flick of his thin alien wrist, he opened a very Archon sized portal back into the webway. He looked back over his shoulder at the 2 remaining Wyches of his retinue, gave them a malicious smile, and quickly stepped through, abandoning them to a rotting demise in realspace. With his entire raiding party destroyed, the Archon could be sure that the rumors of a challenge to his throne could never come to pass. The failure in battle against the despicable Monkeigh would still insult his reputation in Commoragh,. It was, of course, his plan all along.

Ooops I forgot.
Space Marines 2 objectives + First Blood
Dark Eldar 1 objective + malicious Archon victory*
SPEEZ MARHEENS WIN!!!
*note malicious Archon victory is a consolation prize only. It does not award victory points

Nice report. Enjoyed it very much. I prefer the old school written bat reps to video battle reports (with a few exceptions) so a new bat rep writer (with fully painted armies) is really welcome.
I hop you write many many more.

I agree, I quickly tire of the video battle reports, whereas this style is excellent!
Both armies and all of the terrain being painted really makes a difference, it's inspired me to get cracking and finish my Iron Hands. The battle certainly had the visual appeal.
I also enjoyed the snippets of narrative we got, very nice touch.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable battle report, and I hope you make more, well done.

Archons have 4 attacks, 5 w/ a pistol. Disordered charges don't give assault bonuses. Am i missing something?
Enjoyed the battle report. Really feel that DE need their air support, esp when dealing with Storm Ravens (arguably the best plane in the game) If you were only concerned w/ air support, i think the void raven would make the most sense (S9 lances)
Wyches work best in packs. I find that 2 sets of 10 in raiders w/ a 3rd raider w/ some incubi and an archon make for quite a target, giving your shooting more time to be effective. also, incubi are AP2 and find most marine targets to be quite tasty

Thank you all for the kind words. I'm already getting some stuff ready for a larger report, as well as reaching out to other people with painted armies. Some of the video reports are great, but I get tired of them as well. It gets difficult to pay attention to a battle field when some one is zooming the camera back and forth. @chelsea. Youre right. Looks like I forgot to penalize him for the disordered charge while assuming he had the +1 attack combat drug that I frequently roll. Either way, he did a dazzling nothing. I am still trying to figure out 6th.

Thanks guys. I'm working on a new one here soon. Hopefully little better production value. Throwing in some IG on the imperial side as allies maybe.
Can someone please tell me how I upload images without adding them as attachments? I'd like to put more text in between pictures. Do I have to have them hosted somewhere first?

You go to your profile, and upload the pictures to the gallery, here. Then, you can insert them into the body of the posting by using the 'forums' link, under each picture.
Also, if doing a large # of pictures, when you upload them, they will all be sequential. So, you find the first picture in your gallery, paste that link, and then keep pasting and changing the #.
Note: If you post the 'forums' link, you will have to change two numbers. Right now, easier to just fine each picture, and paste in the 'forums' link. I open up two dakka tabs in my browser, one to handle pics, the other to handle posting. That way, I can just view my gallery, and paste what I need. Name the sub-gallery something like "Batreps", and make sure you upload all battle report pictures to that sub-gallery.
You can look at my gallery for examples of how I organize things.

That Archon model is gorgeous, well done!
Easy to follow. As a batrep writer myself, you may be able to leave out some of the roll results, and move right to the effects of those rolls.
For example the lascannon blowing up a venom. You can probably tell us it just blew up, sending dark eldar warriors howling to Slaanesh.
That being said, its a fun read, and you guy's armies are very very well painted.

Finally someone told me how to do this!! Many thanks Brian.
iGuy you're right. I'll only include roll results if they are something out of the ordinary. Now that someone finally told me how to paste pics in I plan on making a new one with a much more fluid organization (a pic with every text entry)
Thanks for the comments! its been motivating me to get a new one up. I've been working on my new snow board all weekend. Maybe ill just keep it in this thread rather than start a new one.
