I always make it a point to equip all of my space marine squads with a banner atop a backpack, I just find it visually appealing, and sort of lends more narrative to the game for me.
My only issue is Assault Squads, a banner on the jump pack makes no sense and looks impractical.
Is there any other way that people have added squad banners to miniatures without sticking it on a backpack?

I always attach banners to captains and sergeants and such, but it doesn't make sense with Assault guys, you're right. I've wondered this as well, and never did come up with a solution.
Perhaps just a slightly different paint scheme. A different colored helmet or set of boosters to make them look unique.

I've usually trimmed the winged skull from the top of the back banner, and then stuck it on the Sergeant's jump pack to make him stand out.
Other thoughts would be a shoulder pad with some parchment detail where you could freehand a design similar to a banner.

If you can find a decent cape to use on the Assault Sgt (or model one yourself) that would make for a pretty nice banner substitute imo.

If you can arm one of them with a longer weapon, like a halberd or something, you could have it hang off, below the blade?

Just have one of them carry it like the on old BA honour guard box. Banner in one hand, chainsword in the other, pistol in a holster.

Good call. I was going to suggest this.

I put them on my Sarges in the RAS, but it is not really a banner for morale ... more of a testament to my twisted sense of humour like this guy:
Sometimes I put meaning in them like this guy too:
I own a 105th Anniversary Edition '08 FLHTCU, Harley's nomenclature for an Ultra Classic:
Also the colour inspiration for My Death Company.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!) |
